Smith isn't going to be captain. He's been arrested twice already (IIRC, a DUI for driving a moped drunk and a disorderly for punching a guy at a party). And then, there's the Teletubby carrying his license, claiming to be him. I'm not saying Smith can't mature, but guys like Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg would never have done things like that. And Smith still looks like he'd be sort of a prick off-the-ice.
On the other hand, I think DeKeyser seems to have the right makeup for possibly being captain one day. Just based on the way he plays the game, and the way he handles himself off-the-ice.
Look at our past captains people. Yzerman, Lidstrom, Zetterberg. Especially look at Zetterberg since most of us know him more closely since he's younger. All three by the way were world class players their ROOKIE SEASON!
Zetterberg rookie season: In 79 games he had 22 goals and 22 assists and ONLY 8 PENALTY MINUTES
Lidstrom rookie season : In 80 games, he had 60 points with 22 penalty minutes a +36 rating
Now I understand that Smith is more of a scrapper and had 2 fights in the season so you can take 10 minutes out of those 36 minutes. But those 26 minutes in 34 games compared to the previous captains is a joke. No way in hell would Red wings franchise current principle give it to Smith.
If we were truly to predict someone to get it next as of now; it would probably be Dekeyser. Kid does better on ice than most of the defensemen on our roster and he leads by example as a 22 year old or whatever he is. Plus babs and Holland love the kid as it is.. Smith on the other hand, the only kind of leading by example from him that I see is "How to draw a penalty in first 5 minutes of the game"
Don't get wrong, I understand Smith is still learning, but to predict him to be captain for a world class organization like Detroit is a joke. We aren't Anaheim Ducks or Florida Panthers people. We are the Detroit Red Wings.
Short of him winning the Conn Smythe there is nothing he can do to redeem himself for the extraordinary amount of WTF moments he has had this post-season.
He is the weakest D-man on the team, he is a PK-making machine, doesn't use his size, doesn't make good passes, and when he tried to be offensive he gives the puck away.
Cut him loose and get what you can for him. He is a dime-a-dozen player.
This group just continues to impress the hell out of me. The resiliency they constantly have shown is unreal. A dominating performance on the road against the best team in hockey to get the series even. Mike Babcock is the Jack Adams winner -- nobody has done a better coaching job between the injuries, offseason losses and incorporating a ton of youth all at once.
I don't know the Red Wings will win this series, but I have no doubts they will compete and give the Blackhawks everything they can handle. The Joe is going to be nuts on Monday!
Dekeyser was on the ice for both the Getzlaf and Palmieri goals.
I believe he hurt himself during an attempted block shot on Palmieri's goal or right before that during a tie-up along the boards. He wasn't on the ice after that.

He looks like he gets hurt about 20 seconds before the goal. The way he was standing in front of the net makes it look like he's favoring that hand
