What I don't get is this sense of entitlement any fan of any team has. It's what made beating Canada all that much better. If the CFL starting developing players in the NFL and they had a tournament in which they beat the USA, I wouldn't go all ape-sh*t like some here have.I'm with you 100% on this one. Being a Canadian, I feel that if it's "our game" we should prove it by taking gold. For the fans that no doubt are looking back at their lame comments likely feeling pretty embarrased as they should, they shouldn't lash out at a country cause their team bested ours. Last time I heard, Canadians were supposed to be "classy" and "nice people"....apparently we don't know how to lose with class and give credit where it's due. For us, hockey is gold or bust, but if it's a bust, learn from it. Don't make yourself and your country look bad.
Just because you may have created a sport doesn't mean you own it or that you're not allowed to be beaten at it. To those b*tching....Grow Up and stop making the rest of your fans look bad.

4 years? like the year we landed Hossa and went to the SCF, to lose in 7, when in a pivotal game 6, the Pens got to play with 6 men on the ice for 30 seconds with no penalty, which resulted in a goal that tied the game, that they then went on to win? That 4 years ago? Or how about the following year where we were capped out and didn't have space, Hudler held us hostage and we had to re-sign, oh, like half our team at once? How about that one?That line has been on loop for the last 4 years.....
It's only been 2 off-seasons that haven't gone ideal and the FA market in both sucked, name ONE player that we missed out on that would have had an impact in either, that we ever had a chance on? You could argue there were ZERO of those players last year and this year, it was Parise and Sutter or bust, both of which we never even had a chance... any other contract would have been piss-poor and a reach...
but, once again, let's not let facts get in the way...

That was damn funny!Not Bad.
I think this is a genius contract on Holland's part. Assuming the best, Helm can do nothing but add huge value to this team. All he needs to do is learn to bury those chances his speed is so good at creating and we're golden.

We do NOT already have a good team, otherwise we wouldn't have had our asses handed to us in the first round. Datsyuk and Zetterberg have nothing to do with the absence Lidstrom will leave on the blueline and Kronwall, while a solid player, is no where near Lidstrom level and, in my opinion, never will be.
We are NOT that deep, as most farm boys who we've been giving shots to have really been disappointing thus far. Kindl, Emmerton, Mursak to name a few. You think these guys are the future? Sure, there's potential in Nyquist and Smith but it's way too early to tell .
We may seem like we have a lot of money, but considering the scarcity of the FA market this summer, expect the players to command big big bucks. And we know how Holland feels about "spending". Well, other than bloated 10 year+ contracts that is.
You know what we could have asked for? Our GM to give our star player and captain a better team to support him his final season. Otherwise, maybe he wouldn't "lack the motivation and drive to continue" (his words not mine).
Seriously though, how does the sand taste?
No offence, but I think this is just selfish fan talk.
I think if you asked Nick he would prefer if Holland looked after the future of the Wings franchise rather than mortgage it to give him, as an individual, one more shot at the cup. But maybe you feel differently.
