#2331838 [Retired] Official Lockout Thread

People are making an incredible mistake here:

50/50 = - 7 % for the players

ELC up from 3 to 4 years
UFA up from 7 to 8 years
contract lenght capped at 5 years
salary cap down by 10 million

Point 1 - 4 are things the NHL will have to change and it would be utterly stupid for the NHLPA to accept anything, without getting a hold of it first.

So let me get this right. You are the only one that doesn't think this is a good step in the right direction? I don't understand what you think the owners should have to give up. should it be more like a 70-30 split for the players or something and then you might be happy? I mean really.

50-50 is fine and fair seeing how bad they both want more than the other
ELC up from 3 to 4 years...why not? works for the nfl just fine.
UFA up from 7 to 8 years..no comment really
contract lenght capped at 5 years..my fav no more awful contract that we all have been complaining about that even our own players on the wings have.
salary cap down by 10 million...why not? keep it from getting out of hand like every other sport in the world.

my other fav is the 5 year contracts can only vary by 500k per year if i read that right. no more bottoms dropping out at the end of contracts

I don't think this really solves anything, other than Bettman/Phoenix and the 7 owners trying to look good to the media and fans. 1/3 of the teams are still almost bankrupt and without proper revenue sharing we'll have another lockout in 6 years.

The system needs to be properly fixed.

To me revenue sharing is a joke. If a team can't make it in a certain market...time to move on. What I have seen are teams like Nashville prime example the whole time they have been in the league have been one of the main teams to take advantage of revenue sharing by being cheap ass not giving guys what they are worth, never keeping players and so on but all of a sudden they have enough money to sign Weber to some astronomical deal??
"Come on Man!!"

I maybe one of the few that see it this way but...

I feel that it is quite ironic that shortly after the NHL hires some help from the GOP to help save face, they then offer a proposal that on the surface says we caved and this is completely fair, but in the details the league still gets all of there other demands yes ironed down a bit but all still mainly in tact. I believe firmly the NHLPA will respond with a counter offer instead of accepting which in turns makes fans turn against them. Which is exactly what the NHL wants and hired the GOP to help them do. To me this is just a face saving act.

would you rather not have a deal done at all? no matter what you feel this is a good deal for the player. they need to take it.

Hold on Hold on...let me back the ol GMC up here. So let me get this straight. It is ok for players or player reps to say what they want because it's freedom of speech and they are just trying to force the owners and big bad bettman to give into their demands but the owners or anyone representing them need to keep their mouth shut. Do I have the gist of it?

Right. Because 20,000 people travel for miles and pay hundreds of dollars to watch cows graze several times a week. Buy cow outfits to wear with the brand of their favorite cow on the side. Watch cows grazing on television for hours on end.

Totally a solid analogy.

And if ranchers did that it would be collusion. The NHL is a pretty specific situation.

Yeah but analogies deal with similarities and comparable situations not exacts. We in big corp america have been compared to cattle many many times but I don't go out back and graze in the fields but I do snack all day which is a form of grazing.

#2329926 Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 24 September 2012 - 04:45 PM

It is true enough for an average employee because there exists a large enough pool of people with similar skills to provide downward pressure on wages. Not so much for elite hockey players. There are no comparable replacement players to be found. Because of that players got a reasonably strong bargaining position and regardless of what owners think they do not have the leverage to make players comply with their every demand.

So I do not think Jimmy D is in charge as much as he thinks he is. Maybe he got great relationship with Red Wings players and they would laugh about it over a beer or something. Otherwise there might be some awkward moments later on.

But the thing is that I think people seem to forget is that these owners were so rich that they went out just for the fun of it or maybe they saw a good investment of some of their money and bought an NHL team....They are holding all the chips and I think they got to a point where they didn't want it to end up like the NBA or the NFL or heck even baseball now where all you had was a bunch of spoiled players demanding and getting 100's of millions of dollars when they aren't worth that. Why is it now I'm seeing comments that the AHL is so much better because no big money is involved. Or I see people talking about how college football is sooo much better because the players are playing their hearts out for the game and not the big money...to a point because ncaa players are playing for those big contracts but you see my point.

Sounds like some dude who plays in the Serie A.

We are really desperate for defensemen, that's for sure.

yeah...I still think we should of thrown like 200-250 mil at suter.

I think this back and forth is great. Shows the competitiveness between teams. Some of you are taking it way too seriously though. It's just jokes between Twitter feeds. Get over yourself.

oh boy we always have someone telling everyone to get over themselves..Where is anyone taking it too seriously?

#2325881 Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 18 August 2012 - 06:27 PM

Because beating up Kronwall's face might keep him from charging my guys. I like Krons, but your % is so far off. He leaves his feet 50% of the time. Watch old videos of Vlad if you want to see good hitting technique. Only red wing fans think Krons is clean.

and obviously you are not a wings fan which we all know. So your point on the matter is a bit skewed and to say that 50% of his hits are illegal?? really? maybe you should re-watch some of his hits there chief and take off whatever color glasses you have on.

if his hits were 50% dirty and should of been penalized...why have they not been,...and why has he not been suspended? hmmmmmm

#2325872 Should Kronwall have to answer the bell for his hits?

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 18 August 2012 - 05:28 PM

If i was an opposing coach, i would make him answer for it. Especially when he leaves his feet.

So you would make him answer for clean hits which are pretty much 99% of his hits? Why is that?

Although it's true once the playoffs start I think there are still legit cup contenders. With how well NYR did last year and now adding Nash and having a healthy Marc Staal they have to be considered legit cup contenders/favorites. I'm not even the biggest Nash fan in the world but when you combine Lundqvist, their stacked D and a forward corps that should be able to score pretty well I'd say they're legit contenders.

Would you of called L.A. a serious cup contender before last season?

#2325361 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 15 August 2012 - 01:46 PM

I don't know. I still think Holland should of thrown 150mil per at both Parise and Suter to try and change their minds of playing at home and together. I mean really.

A goalie can't be good without a top 3 all time dman, what are you thinking?!?!?!?

no no....OUR goalies can't be good without a top 3 all time dman. Minnesota and st Louis have 2 of the best goalies of like forever.

Oh yes, I forgot, Sammy's gonna save us. And you think Kenny has this team in the "best position" right now? Good grief.

If you don't think Sammy if going to help YOU sir are the crazy one. The opposing team's goalie can only take so many shots to the chest it has to start hurting at some point. He will wear a hole in the goalies chest pads then what?...we win.=) hehe
