Hopefully the courts are ruling the right way, since we all know which side has done nothing but bad negotiating since this whole process started.

Yeah we ALL know this............

Bettman is the worst thing to ever happen to the game of hockey , we should all do whatever we can to get him out of the game and you choose to focus on the guy fighting him.
Are you contrarian and just like to argue or are you 1 of those many paid mercenaries hired by Bettman and/or the NHL for internet PR scouring the web for sites talking about hockey and propagating their wickedness?

I really don't get it. Just because some of us see more of a bigger picture as a whole..more problem then just Bettman , we are just here to argue, we are idiots....we are Buttman dur hur lovers....and we wish bad things to happen to hockey and the players. I'm not sure how me and several others can say it any clearer then we already have. Both sides suck...we hate Bettman....we hate Fehr....We hate the fact that we can't watch our "beloveded" (Ernest T. Bass) Wings.

OK, fair enough. Almost everything I have seen you say up to this point though has been pro-league and anti-union/Fehr, so you can't blame me for thinking that.

Well I understand that but thats what happens when you have a discussion like this and have many saying that it is all Bettmans fault. I'm not really one to go with a trend just because someone comes up with a clever name for Bettman but I know that it does suck that we have had to go through this 3 times with him but im also not going to say it has been all his and the owners fault either.

I just find it amazing that both sides have spent more time negotiating in the last two days than they have in the last 6 months. Where was this sense of urgency in June/July? Just further proof that neither side deserves your financial support when the sport comes back. If both sides gave a crap, they would have been doing this in July instead of pontificating for the press and acting like spoiled brats.

I do hope a deal gets done soon so I can watch the Wings on TV again.

now now you know fehr and the nhlpa were just the victims here of the devil called bettman. give me a break.....Both sides are ridiculous. So sad that we lost the historical winter classic because of all of this. If I didn't love the sport so much and love watching it I would no longer be a fan of the nhl and would probably stop watching hockey all together.

Speaking of crying.....

Which player will be crying this week to the media. Poor NHLPA and poor Fehr. They are just innocent bystanders in all of this. The Devil wears an NHL Logo.

When will the players wake up and finally see that Fehr is just playing a game with all of their money? They are all getting screwed.

Always liked him although more of an introverted guy, so it should tell everyone something when guys like him are telling the media how pissed they are and rightfully so.

I felt the same way about Jimmy Devellano.

#2332658 Sacrifice the full season to guarantee Bettman's removal?

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 25 October 2012 - 12:39 AM

Also it could be more than that if the best owner in all of sports wouldn't have th share the revenue wth failed franchises or pay for a effing undersized anti hockeyguy.

The players hired Fehr to get a fair deal no offer from the NHL has been close to that.

I'd say however long it takes if some OWNER created problems and this atrocious commissioner are removed its well worth it.

Fair meaning well over what their employers are making and well over what they are really worth? Yeah sounds real fair. And Owners have Bettman in there to make sure that the players don't get too greedy and it seems to be working.

I love how some on here seem to blindly follow everything the nhlpa says or does.
Some of you sound like a lot of employees here at work. owner of the company makes billions why can;t he give me just 1 million dollars. It wouldn't hurt him at all. hahahah
Some how Fehr is a Saint for looking out for the players and being greedy but Bettman is the devil. I don't get it.

A contract ones again is a legal binding agreement, the contract you are signing today with all the clauses can not be modified until BOTH sides agree to it. Boy I'd love seeing ******* like Jacobs crying infront of a judge about a contract he has willingly given out and then with all his billionaire friends crying again about not being able to pay it.

Judges would rip these dirty gamblers a new one.

and I would love to see the owners stand against a bunch of greedy players and their greedy union.....oh wait.

Taking away security from players is never a good thing!

Couldn't care less about the NBA this is hockey we are talking here.

I'm not sure I understand you not wanting to talk about other leagues that are way more successful than the nhl and the reasons why they are. There are things that other leagues do that the nhl would be smart to adopt and some things that they need to stay clear of. there is nothing wrong with bringing those facts up. I hope that the 10+ yr contracts are a thing of the past.

People are making an incredible mistake here:

50/50 = - 7 % for the players

ELC up from 3 to 4 years
UFA up from 7 to 8 years
contract lenght capped at 5 years
salary cap down by 10 million

Point 1 - 4 are things the NHL will have to change and it would be utterly stupid for the NHLPA to accept anything, without getting a hold of it first.

So let me get this right. You are the only one that doesn't think this is a good step in the right direction? I don't understand what you think the owners should have to give up. should it be more like a 70-30 split for the players or something and then you might be happy? I mean really.

50-50 is fine and fair seeing how bad they both want more than the other
ELC up from 3 to 4 years...why not? works for the nfl just fine.
UFA up from 7 to 8 years..no comment really
contract lenght capped at 5 years..my fav no more awful contract that we all have been complaining about that even our own players on the wings have.
salary cap down by 10 million...why not? keep it from getting out of hand like every other sport in the world.

my other fav is the 5 year contracts can only vary by 500k per year if i read that right. no more bottoms dropping out at the end of contracts

I don't think this really solves anything, other than Bettman/Phoenix and the 7 owners trying to look good to the media and fans. 1/3 of the teams are still almost bankrupt and without proper revenue sharing we'll have another lockout in 6 years.

The system needs to be properly fixed.

To me revenue sharing is a joke. If a team can't make it in a certain market...time to move on. What I have seen are teams like Nashville prime example the whole time they have been in the league have been one of the main teams to take advantage of revenue sharing by being cheap ass not giving guys what they are worth, never keeping players and so on but all of a sudden they have enough money to sign Weber to some astronomical deal??
"Come on Man!!"

I maybe one of the few that see it this way but...

I feel that it is quite ironic that shortly after the NHL hires some help from the GOP to help save face, they then offer a proposal that on the surface says we caved and this is completely fair, but in the details the league still gets all of there other demands yes ironed down a bit but all still mainly in tact. I believe firmly the NHLPA will respond with a counter offer instead of accepting which in turns makes fans turn against them. Which is exactly what the NHL wants and hired the GOP to help them do. To me this is just a face saving act.

would you rather not have a deal done at all? no matter what you feel this is a good deal for the player. they need to take it.

Hold on Hold on...let me back the ol GMC up here. So let me get this straight. It is ok for players or player reps to say what they want because it's freedom of speech and they are just trying to force the owners and big bad bettman to give into their demands but the owners or anyone representing them need to keep their mouth shut. Do I have the gist of it?

Right. Because 20,000 people travel for miles and pay hundreds of dollars to watch cows graze several times a week. Buy cow outfits to wear with the brand of their favorite cow on the side. Watch cows grazing on television for hours on end.

Totally a solid analogy.

And if ranchers did that it would be collusion. The NHL is a pretty specific situation.

Yeah but analogies deal with similarities and comparable situations not exacts. We in big corp america have been compared to cattle many many times but I don't go out back and graze in the fields but I do snack all day which is a form of grazing.

#2329926 Jimmy D Speaks out on Lockout, fined $250k

Posted by hillbillywingsfan on 24 September 2012 - 04:45 PM

It is true enough for an average employee because there exists a large enough pool of people with similar skills to provide downward pressure on wages. Not so much for elite hockey players. There are no comparable replacement players to be found. Because of that players got a reasonably strong bargaining position and regardless of what owners think they do not have the leverage to make players comply with their every demand.

So I do not think Jimmy D is in charge as much as he thinks he is. Maybe he got great relationship with Red Wings players and they would laugh about it over a beer or something. Otherwise there might be some awkward moments later on.

But the thing is that I think people seem to forget is that these owners were so rich that they went out just for the fun of it or maybe they saw a good investment of some of their money and bought an NHL team....They are holding all the chips and I think they got to a point where they didn't want it to end up like the NBA or the NFL or heck even baseball now where all you had was a bunch of spoiled players demanding and getting 100's of millions of dollars when they aren't worth that. Why is it now I'm seeing comments that the AHL is so much better because no big money is involved. Or I see people talking about how college football is sooo much better because the players are playing their hearts out for the game and not the big money...to a point because ncaa players are playing for those big contracts but you see my point.
