#2387357 nhl.com calls Kenny the best GM

Posted by alienanxiety on 21 April 2013 - 09:22 AM

They had all the cap room in the world this summer.   Holland tried (and failed) for Parise and Suter, but where he really missed the ball was his total disinterest in Semin.   Semin with Datsyuk would have us in the playoffs right now.

#2380049 Babcock loving this young group, Abby thinks any team can win it, and

Posted by alienanxiety on 03 April 2013 - 11:35 PM

I'm kind of feeling the vibe that our fans are as dumb as they think they're GM is, if not dumber. All the years we've been pegged "too old", now in the next three years we will be "too young" We've got guys like Sammy, Bert, Cleary, and White. A guy like Bert and Cleary..yes they are washed up, but you can't just make them walk the plank. You gotta at least let them finish the contracts they've signed and try to get production out of them. That's why they play on top lines. They aren't going to produce or be effective on bottom lines, where as the young guys will benefit no matter where they are put in the lineup. Its obvious that Holland doesn't favor putting inexperienced young players right into the lineup and frankly, that's the right idea. They've got to grow into adulthood as well as mature as players. Over-ripening players takes care of growing pains, and they learn and grow into consistent mature adults on and off the ice before they become full time NHLers. When they make it there, they can handle themselves accordingly and adaptively unlike other sports (basketball, football) where these young kids get thrown into the mix with millions of dollars creating irresponsibility, selfishness, and immaturity inside and outside of the sport. This is a wonderful strategy we have here instead of throwing the kids right into the fire and burning out before they make it to their prime. We have tons of prospects in the system. This is a new era for the Red Wings and the NHL itself. The bulk of your team has to come from the draft whereas quick fixes and pricey add-on's come from trade and free agency. There was no trade Holland could have made that would have propelled this team into a strong contender while retaining our valuable assets. Why sell the future for more washed up old guys like Iginla or Jagr? We already have veteran presence in Bertuzzi, Cleary, Samuelsson. Maybe some of the other guys (Filpulla, Eaves, Miller, Emmerton, Mursak) will develop and create a little bit of market value for themselves by giving them the minutes on the big club while the prospects develop consistency in their overall game play and lifestyle. Moving forward, the Wings have a very bright future. And having a bright future sometimes comes at the price of a not so bright present. (we still have a playoff picture team) Some of these teams move players around at an alarming rate every year, but what they aren't doing is winning, which is why they keep making trades at the cost of draft picks and prospects to try and find the winning formula. I appreciate our build from with-in strategy. I'm proud to be a Red Wings fan. Have patience. This year and next will be evaluation years. We've got a lot of players, and its only fair to see what they bring to the table before we overhaul them and dedicate our entire line up to developing all of our prospects at the NHL level instead of a few at a time which the Wings have been doing for years.

If everyone is frantically running to the store buying pre-made cheeseburgers for 10 dollars because word got out that they were pretty good and it became trendy to satisfy your needs with pre made expensive items, Im not gonna buy one, I'm going to stay home and make my own exactly the way i want it for half the cost.

This was a pretty weird post.   :sleepy:

Say what you want - Shero has a pretty good head on his shoulders.

At least he didn't say Crosby coming back from injury would be as good as a deadline acquisition.  Instead he added Jokinen.

Flog Holland.

Classic Holland.

Overvalues his own players.  Under-values others.  Expects players to take less money to play in Detroit.

There is a large trend now, of players saying "no thanks" to Detroit.

This was first mentioned publically by Winsewski 2 off-seasons ago, and it came home to roost with Suter and Parise.

Holland will do nothing of significance this off-season either.

Holland has a nice golf-friendly routine worked out for himself:

Trade deadline day:  We kicked the tires, didn't see a fit, we'll save the money for free agency
Free agency day:  We kicked the tires, didn't see a fit, we'll save the cap room for the trade deadline

We like our team.

Although to be fair, Holland will sometimes throw in a "the asking price was too high" just to mix it up.

I won't even start thinking about the price anyone would have to pay for Vanek. 1st + 2 elite prospects probably.

 I'd be fine with that.

Why do so many of you want Holland to horde prospects?   After years of letting our prospects over-ripen in Grad Rapids, we literally have a glut of prospects.   Where are any of these guys supposed to play?  We could deal 5 of our prospects and never miss them.  They barely have room to fit in Tatar and Nyquist - where are they going to put the other 10 guys that are in waiting?  Make a mega-deal for Vanek/Stafford/Pominville.   Give them are first two picks and 5 prospects.  I don't care who ... Jurco, Jarnkrok, Sproul, Mursak, Tatar, Nyqvist, Sheehan, Oullet, the list goes on and on.  They're not accomplishing anything if they're gonna be stuck in GR for the next 3 years.

#2010713 Bob Probert passes away at 45

Posted by alienanxiety on 05 July 2010 - 08:22 PM

Will the Wings wear a "BP" ( meaning Bob Probert ) sticker on the helmets? would be nice to see.
What a horrible thing to have happen.

I'd suggest they go with the number 24 on the helmets. "BP" aren't exactly the most beloved initials right now.

#1985496 Proof that NHL Parity Is Not Working.

Posted by alienanxiety on 15 May 2010 - 10:06 AM

For all of Bettman's desire to have NHL teams playing at parity in the post-cap world, and for all the 3 point games this year that helped inflate point totals around the league, the NHL is still very imbalanced. All we have to do is look at these playoffs. In the West the top 2 seeds have made it where they are suppose to have, the semi finals, while in the east you have two teams left in Philly ad Montreal that are so awful they would have been 12 and 13 seeds in the West. While some might say that having them make it this far shows parity (personally I think it shows PARODY), but all it proves to me is that the East is terrible. There is a awful imbalance between the two conferences. In fact, 4 of the 8 eastern playoff teams would have finished behind Colorado for the 8th seed. how crazy is that? It only further pushes the idea that playoffs should be seeded 1-16, regardless of conference. Would have been a very different playoffs this year:

Washington/Calgary
San Jose/St. Louis
Chicago/Boston
Phoenix/Ottawa
Vancouver/Colorado
New Jersey/Buffalo
Detroit/Nashville
Pittsburgh/Los Angeles

notice that the two eastern conference finalists are not even in the playoffs! no wonder this league isn't taken seriously sometimes.

#1977345 Free Agent Wish List

Posted by alienanxiety on 06 May 2010 - 10:13 AM

Guys, I think we all KNOW what will happen come July 1st. NOTHING!

As we watch key free agent after key free agent being signed up we'll begin making topics asking where ken holland is, what he's doing, why nothing is happening. After a week or so Holland will give a blurb in the freep saying he is looking for "the right fit" or players that "make sense" for them. Then by the third week of July, with all the top tier free agents gone, Holland will reassure us by stating, again the in the freep, that our free agent signing is Jiri Hudler, and that his return is just as good as any of the players that were available. Finally, Holland will finish his summer duties by signing one decrepit old 4th line vet like Ian Laperierre and a former Red Wing along the lines of Mike Knuble. Before the regular season begins Holland will state, this time on Fox Sports Detroit, that the Wings are up against the cap and will have to go into the season with the team they have, and that maybe (never happen) they'll try to make a splash at the trade deadline.

#1950065 WCQF Game 3 GDT: Coyotes 4 at Red Wings 2

Posted by alienanxiety on 18 April 2010 - 09:14 PM

So ... if Phoenix somehow goes on to win the Cup, am I finally allowed to cry conspiracy? I mean we've had expansion franchise Cups (Tampa, Anaheim, Carolina), then Pittsburgh went bankrupt and on the verge of a move until they went to the finals, and now Phoenix went bankrupt and magically now turn competitive. Pittsburgh/Phoenix final would be Bettman's wet dream and would make me swear off hockey for life. It's be like WWE.
