#2008976 TSN: Discussion of Modano To Wings
Posted by ben_usmc

Who the f*** is Modano going to mentor on this team?No educated fan will complain. No one is expecting him to go out and be a force. Talent and hands don't just disappear, and while his legs may show his age, there is no reason to think he won't be able to produce on the 2nd powerplay unit, as well as be an effective third line center. His linemates last year were not top-6 players by any stretch of the imagination, so assuming he could duplicate another .5 ppg season at this age is not unquestionable at all.
When you factor in the intangibles, and mentorship of some our younger players, he would be the perfect fit if we make an addition at all. Better be one year however.
Signing him is not what this team needs, so I hope Kenny passes

Fun??Say good night to all the Dman that go back to get the puck in your world.
Zero help for the defense is just a nightmare.
Goaltenders should be encouraged to play the puck in my opinion, it speeds up the game and they tend to mess up anyways.
Hitting a goaltender is just not fair, they have no way to protect themselves, it's like hitting a punching bag.

You and I damn well both know Holland won't go after a team like thatBig E will play tougher with a guy like X on his pairing with him knowing someone would always have his back. Not to mention Abby and Konopka or a smaller less tough fighter like Nystrom upfront and we would have a tough team to play against.
Every defense pairing has absolute hammers on them except for if Lids/ Rafi are together. Then upfront you have the perfect balance of toughness and skill with Abby and Konopka on the roster taking care of business hammering the other teams defense and makign sure nobody messes with Datsyuk.

#2000502 Is Filppula going to be our 3rd line center...or 1st line winger?

Sorry I know this is a little off topic, so I'll at least start by saying I think Flip will eventually be what everyone hopes for. My point though is that I am gettingf****** sick of this team, I'm sorry and I may be the only one. I wan tto keep the superstars but I really wish Holland would cut some of thesef****** ties and actually opted for some more new blood besides a potential goon...It looks like it's going to be either...
Filppula-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Hudler-Helm-Cleary
Miller/*FA-Abdelkader-Eaves
Draper
OR
Hudler-Datsyuk-Holmstrom
Franzen-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi
Abdelkader-Filppula-Cleary
Miller/*FA-Helm-Eaves
...the thing that drives me nuts about both lines (and hence, resigning bertuzzi) is that a very, very talented offensive player - hudler or filppula - will be wasted on a line that has two players with no hands - cleary and helm/abby.
i guess i like the second combination more, but really, i don't like either choice. it's going to take a cap-miracle signing to improve the situation.

Agreed this team is tired, it needs to be changed. Signing away all your cap space just gives us another year of apathetic play. Hudler will be a massive improvement over Williams but still isn't enough. I just don't feel comfortable icing basically the same team, our bottom 6 isn't equally distributed, Miller/Eaves/Ritola/Helm/hell even Cleary all have the same type of play. We need to start changing some pieces and obviously Helm is staying and we are forced with Cleary, but we need to at least get rid one of Eaves/Miller/Ritola.You mean his his grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids' grandkids?
I agree with left winger, this team needs some change, not go back with the same team that just got beaten down by a team that got swept. Now I don't think Hudler is a waste and he is damn sure worth his 2.85m salary, but we need someone else for the top 6.
Also I would be highly disappointed if Lidstrom didn't take a decent pay cut. I don't give a s*** that he is a pro and worth the money, I just couldn't imagine Lidstrom being that type of guy, I figured he'd be more like Stevie Y.....

I have to admit that kind of pisses me off that Nik said money will be a factor. I mean I can understand why he still wants to get paid like a baller, because let's face it he still his one of the best. But come on man I wouldn't have expected him to say money was a factori keep saying this and i'll say again, Lidstrom's discount won't be much. i will be stunned if he gets less than $5million. i think he will get $6 million

#1976823 Who would you most blame for a round 2 loss?

What kind of buls*** is this? Are you really trying to tell me that game 2 officiating was fair and wings fans are just used to a bias, howf****** stupid and insulting of you.First let's talk about Howard, over and over fans and critics alike are pointing to his missed saves and over looking those he made. On numbers alone Howard is superior to Nabokov, but he also has more self control, he doesn't give up after a few misses. Nabokov is not thought of as the best Goalie in his home town. He is barley tolerated after so many lackluster showings.
Howard is not to blame!
The Ref's… Well fine clearly they made some bad calls and missed others but if you put their bad calls and missed calls on a scale I think everyone will agree (even if only privately) that the Red Wings have alot more on the plus side of bad calls and missed calls then their opponents. I'll even go so far as to say that I think the team and fans have become accustomed to a certain level of favoritism on the part of officiating to the point that when a game is called even Detroit feels slighted.
The Ref's are not to blame either!
Babcock: He is the coach, responsibility begins and stops with him. Its coaching that keeps the team from laying off when they have a lead, its coaching that pulls a goalie if they go cold and its coaching that gets the team to calm down and regain their composure. Babcock is very likely the best coach in all of professional hockey today and you gotta believe when he got home he looked in the mirror and verbally B**** slapped himself. Nobody including the Sharks expects to see Detroit lose game 4 and you can rest assured that the Coaching is going to be precise.
One last thing, the wings were beat by another team, they didn't lose because they suck. They lost because another team was able to capitalize on their mistakes. In the playoffs it's all about who sees a hole and attacks first on a sheet of ice with precious few holes.
