#2194841 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by ben_usmc on 01 July 2011 - 09:54 PM

Lol. Datsyuk was known as a playoff bust and Kenny Holland re-signed him to that 7 year deal when the salary cap was really low. Kronwall didn't show his worth in his cap area either. Lots of angry LGWs fans. Similar to now... nothing's changed around here.

Ericsson has shown he has great potential. He's had some very solid games and Babcock and Holland (Holland with the best scouting staff in the game) believe in him. I guess LGWs has more hockey intelligence than DRWs brass?

I love comments like this. I suppose the J Williams and Modano signings were brilliant moves as well? Because pretty sure most Wings fans were pissed about both them, but Holland and Co. are all knowing..... It is ok to think for yourself on here...

This defense is going to be hilarious to watch this year. Did we address any actual needs other than resigning Lidstrom?

#2194113 Too early to panic?

Posted by ben_usmc on 01 July 2011 - 01:57 PM

I haven't seen any deals made that I would have been happy with anyway. Have you seen some of the money being tossed at people? Rediculous amounts in some cases, no way a lot of those players actually earn the amount of $$$$ they will be making.

You can panic if you want, but it's not very constructive =)

see I don't understand this. Everyone says it's a weak FA market and players are being overpaid so Ericsson's contract doesn't look so bad. But Ericsson at no point is worth 3.25 million dollars, whether inflated or not. Let him walk it's not like Smith could be much worse, and save the cap money for through out the season when teams realize they won't be in the chase.

#2193260 Red Wings trying to move Jiri Hudler

Posted by ben_usmc on 01 July 2011 - 08:56 AM

I'm sure he's looking to get rid of Hudler so we can offer Eaves $6 million a year for 4 years

#2193154 Holland Appreciation Thread

Ericsson probably leveraged himself against what other UFA's are making. The poor free agent class probably upped his value.

I know I'm in the huge minority here, but considering what the other blueliners are going to be getting, I don't mind the signing.

so what Ericssonf****** sucks, there are tons of different methods in which to make the d better, none of which include Ericsson.

Right. So many holes. You mean Rafalski, Salei and Modano, I imagine.

Is there any point at which you're not blowing things vastly out of proportion?

dude you seriously need to get off of Hollands nuts, you do realize the man is capable off****** up. Hudler/Madana/Williams/Ericsson all horrible horrible moves. If you want to do nothing but be around people that agree with him get off messageboards and start just watching FSN because on messageboards people actually follow the sport and understand this is buls***.

lol must be that legendary hometown discount working again in our favor. 6/30/2011 the day Ken Hollands career went on the decline??

#2186567 No, No, NO! Jagr interested in Detroit.

Awesome, he will look amazing playing with talent like Shanny, Feds, and Stevie Y!!!

#2180382 Kris Draper

Posted by ben_usmc on 27 May 2011 - 01:35 PM

This will insight a war of all wars but basically he brought something around a 2.875 million contract Hudler brought but ya know, more energy, FOW%, and actually hitting players. But again, let's keep shooting from the hip that Draper is "too old" and has to let it go.

It's not hard to bring more value to the team then Hudler did. Hell the fans in the crowd probably did more to positively effect the team then Hudler

Posted by ben_usmc on 18 May 2011 - 07:32 PM

So what exactly is your rationale here?? Hard working players that gut it out and command respect from the locker room and the coach don't belong? Ahh, I finally understand your first post now..... Posted Image

Actually wtf is going on??? More Cleary hate?

Don't you ever steal this award away from Bertuzzi or Happy Huds from this offseason. Truthfully, you saying you watched EVERY single game makes your "opinions" seem quite a bit off. Oh well, guess I had blinders on to everyone but Datsyuk or Hank and can't appreciate the hard working players that you need on a team.....

And if you think saying "hard working" for Danny is something that shouldn't have him on the team then this is going even further off track man. Seriously.

I didn't think Bertuzzi was overrated by fans on here (most thought eh), the coaching staff is a different story though. I seriously was just very unimpressed by Cleary, maybe it was the injures that caught up to him, but manly in the playoffs not only did I feel like he wasn't playing up to his capabilities, he actually became a liability on the ice. He wasn't Hudler bad, but when he was on the ice you could count on him turning it over.

I don't hate cleary and wouldn't be upset if we kept him, because every player should be allowed a down year, I'm just saying if we could trade him away I wouldn't shed a tear.

Do we have a candidate for "worst post of the year" award?

I need not comment in the fashion I wanted to since others put it in the same baffled outrage I would have, but what in gods name were you thinking.. progressively worse yet being increasingly more productive? :hysterical:

It's not about saying something unpopular.. but saying something extremely stupid.

Purely going by point production is the reason we had a scrub like Jason Williams playing for our team at one point, they only tell half of a story. He was a scoring monster before he went down, but when he came back he wasn't nearly as effective. I know he'll be back next year and hope he can kick it back up a gear (IMO), but if he can't don't expect me to be a person saying I told you so or anything, I'd much rather eat crow.

That title belongs to Eaves or Stuart.

post season wise it could go to A LOT of players

#2176847 Hudler's Future

Posted by ben_usmc on 18 May 2011 - 04:29 PM

He was #2 in goal scoring on the team this year, and he probably would have been #1 if he hadn't been hit in the ankle with a slapshot. He's fast, he hits hard, he's great defensively, and he never takes a shift off; indeed, I think he's one of the hardest-working players in the league when he's on the ice. He was, in this season, one of our best forwards.

Were you even paying attention during the regular season? I don't see how you could have made this statement if you'd actually been watching the games.

Sorry for having a difference of opinion, I watched every game this year and since he came back from the injury was nothing special. He certainly was not one of our best forward nor did he look like hwas working hard (especially in the playoffs) of course on here apparently we don't allow others to have their own opinions. Cleary is the most overrated player by LGW

also my 2nd statement was meant about hudler

#2176811 Hudler's Future

Posted by ben_usmc on 18 May 2011 - 01:30 PM

Why do you want a gritty, hard-working player like Cleary gone?

Because he has progressively has gotten worse

when you have to work that hard to justify a player even being on the roster, he most likely shouldn't be there

#2176700 Hudler's Future

Posted by ben_usmc on 18 May 2011 - 01:11 AM

I think he deserves another shot everyone has a down year look how many people wanted cleary gone after last year or Datsyuk traded in 05'06 because he never produced in playoffs. I was down on him alot this year but I dont think he just forgot how to score.

I still want Cleary gone, but Hudler much much more. Datsyuk, I never understood why anyone could have doubted him, just like Fisher

#2176406 Which conference would you rather have the Wings in?

Posted by ben_usmc on 17 May 2011 - 01:46 AM

The West because it's a better conference
