Yes, Detroit might of done okay, but how in a million years you take two franchises and screw them (Fla, TB) just to get the Capitals in the Atlantic is a complete joke. Yea we got out okay, but I would have rather been in the north east with Montreal Toronto buffalo and Boston and such
What are you guys whining about? We'll dominate that division. Chicago is the only other powerhouse in our division.
We'll have to play them in the playoffs perenially. It'll heat the rivalry up even more.
It's not as good as just moving the Wings to the East but it is MUCH better than what we have now. Only 1 trip to Western Canada and 1 to the California. And in the playoffs we play the first 2 rounds in our time zone or the Central time zone. No flights to California in the first two rounds.
We also see Montreal, Toronto and Boston for a home and home every year. I would prefer to play them more but as I said, it's a big improvement over what we have now.
I agree. People are forgetting the bolded part as well. It's a good deal.
I must be on something, but I love this change. The return of INTENSE rivalries and divisional hatred will be astounding given the amount of times you'll see the same teams during the regular season and in the first and second round. Plus, the chance to play teams like the Canucks and Sharks in the Stanley Cup finals. Finally, the improved travel schedule should provide the wings the extra juice they need when making a deep run in the playoffs. Bravo Bettman, one of the few good things you've done.
And LMAO at the Wings being one of the teams that voted against this, they basically got exactly what they were looking for, a dramatically improved travel schedule.

feet were clearly planted at contact
Thanks for the pic. I thought that it might have been a "Kronwall" situation where his feet leave the ice after contact, but I wasn't sure. It's hard to tell sometimes watching these videos on youtube.

The "C" isn't just about the being the best player on the team, it's also about the most capable to lead and unfortunately for Pasha, the language barrier HAS to factor in there as well for communicating with refs, press events, team meetings, etc... when the unthinkable happens, the new captain will STILL be Z and if it's not, there's a better chance it would be Kronwall than Dats...

Last year's Bruins don't count?
Meh. Campbell is more of an agitator that people wanted to punch in the face. I'll give you Thornton (I'd love him on the WIngs because he can actually play) I'll give you McQuaid as well because that boy can FIGHTTTT. Other than those three, who exactly makes this team (oh God) hard? Lucic is a spot picking turd, as is Who Hearing Horton, and even Chara to a lesser degree.
Plus the Bruins didn't win the Cup, the Boston Thomas' won the cup.
Ya time to play Smith the Wings keep their prospects in the minors for so long it becomes annoying. NHL experience is what he needs, just look at all the other young players getting time in the NHL and excelling.
Mark How inducted to the HOF? Really? Perhaps it should be renamed to NHL HOF as it has nothing with hockey worldwide. In Sweden, Finland, Chechoslovakia and Russia and we so many defs that were WAY better than Mark Howe. 100 more that are not there.
PS still I understand for whom the "product" is made.
Outside of a few stretches while playing with Lidstrom, Stuart has been extremely average imo. I think this is an excellent opportunity and perfect time to unload him and not look for anything in return except the cap room. The Red Wings have a good group of young defensemen and a top 3 that are probably one of the best top 3's in the league. I really like the look of: Lidstrom/White, Kronwall/Commodore, Kindl/Ericsson, Smith next year. And if they dump Holmstrom, Hudler, Bertuzzi, and Stuart, then they gain about 9 million of cap room. I guarantee they can pull in a good defenseman like Matt Carle for 5-6 million a sesason if they want to. Brad Stuart has been consistent. That's the best attribute he's brought to this team. But it's time for him to move back home.
