#2267026 Dearborn councilman assaulted outside JLA

Posted by evilmrt on 05 March 2012 - 11:30 PM

Lol really? Lighten up. This kind of stuff happens in sports. It sucks when it happens in your city but there is nothing you can do about it. Hope he gets caught and move on.

I disagree. The ******* who did this, if its on security cameras or whatnot...and assuming he even went to the game, should be banned. What an embarrassment to Wings Nation...that guy isn't one of us, so he can stop pretending to be while at JLA, at least.

This is the kind of garbage that Hawks fans would try to blame on us.....HMMMM!!! :o

Deadspin (the source of this "story") is a joke. They are just like ESPN and SI, only acknowledging that hockey exists when something like this happens, then quickly forgetting about all about it so they can obsess about football. If this was coming from somewhere more reputable, like say...Bob McKenzie, I might give it some serious thought. But Deadspin? Move along, folks.

Ok, get your s*** right about Scotty Bowman. This is a Wings forum, so your opinion about the language issue is secondary to getting things like that right.

This is from mlive in 2009:

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the fact that former Red Wings coach and current Chicago Blackhawks consultant Scotty Bowman made the Blackhawks' pick, speaking in French to the host Montreal audience before doing what few teams did in congratulating the Pittsburgh Penguins on winning the Cup (it's considered a draft-day courtesy).

source

Scotty grew up in nearby Verdun, which in his day was a majority English-speaking part of the Montreal area (its not anymore). He knew some French, obviously, but admits that he wasn't that great at it until he was behind the bench:

When Bowman's playing career ended prematurely, he started coaching the Canadiens junior team in Hull.

"We had some young players -- Claude Ruel was one of them -- who couldn't speak English. I was interested in coaching and was able to get a pretty good knowledge of French. With the Canadiens, even Mario Tremblay, he came from up north and couldn't speak English. I spoke to him in French. I was able to communicate and basically talk hockey."

source

Says Bowman about Cunneyworth:

"It'll be pretty tough sledding without a grasp of French," said Bowman. "I'm sure he recognizes this opportunity. I don't think the people there expect more than a working knowledge. I think if he can pick up just a working knowledge, they'd welcome him with open arms.

"I hope he can do it."

who cares. they fired on ice reporters like Charissa Thompson and Lindsay Soto, and hired Pierre McGuire as replacement. a name change won't help that.

BTW, ESPN just hired Charissa Thompson, and she's going to have her own show there... wonder who wins in this exchange

Apparently NBC thinks hockey needs to *** it up a bit. <_< Really stupid...hockey coverage needs more women. Its a sausage fest as it is...I guess that's how Pierre likes it, though.

#2199675 Chris Osgood announces retirement

Posted by evilmrt on 20 July 2011 - 12:37 AM

I have yet another thing to remind me that I'm old. It seems like yesterday that Ozzie was a kid backing up Mike Vernon. Ah man...

Goodbye to another Detroit classic.

Ok folks, cool down...you're chasing away the 20 people who even come here during the summer.

#2198025 Backup Goalie?

Posted by evilmrt on 12 July 2011 - 01:11 AM

I would take Osgood, Larsson, Conks in that order.

I really just think Larsson is a worth developing, Osgood is worth letting him finish, but if you are going to kick him to the curb it should be for developing an asset.

Conklin is not an asset, nor is he proven to be a playoff guy. I don't think he will be a liability, but I just don't think he is the best choice.

I completely agree, but the problem is that Larsson (as it seems so many euro players do now?) blabbed to the media and made Kenny look bad. He'd probably already be signed if he had his ego in check.

Ozzie wins the backup spot if he can go the distance. I'm no doctor, so I have no idea if he can. We could assume the specialists gave Kenny a big fat question mark about Ozzie for this to all be up in the air at this point.

#2190901 Reports: Hulsizer Pulls Out Of Phoenix

Posted by evilmrt on 28 June 2011 - 11:19 AM

Well well well, another buyer abandons the Glendale city council. They'll never learn.

All the Vegas talk...not really sure where its coming from, but it seems very unlikely due to Las Vegas's economy being in the toilet...still one of the worst cities in the nation, often topping places like our beloved Detroit in its awfulness. Imagine for a moment...putting an NHL team in a city that for all intents and purposes is worse off economically than Metro Detroit, yet is in a non-hockey market in the middle of the desert. This is after the BoG just saw a team abandon Atlanta for comparatively tiny Winnipeg. I think the Vegas talk is at best, 3 years too early.

do not want rocco grimaldi at all!!!! anyone see his interview on tsn? they were talking about how he is all religious and rocco said something about guys on the team who do things that are "wrong" the quickly corrected himself by saying guys who do things he "doesn't agree with" in regards to drinking alcohol and such.... sounds like he would be a cancer in the locker room.

Right, because everyone thought Rafalski was a "cancer in the locker room", too. Those stupid religious hockey players!!!

They have Saad ranked at 14th. Either could happen.

Yeah I like Saad as well, they are both nice options.

Ok so it wasn't the Wings, but we got treated to some fantastic goaltending by Tim Thomas. As a hockey fan, it was a joy watching him in the finals. As a Michigan native, also from the Flint area, I can't help but have a special appreciation for this guy. And he'll cap it off next week with a well deserved Vezina.
