Howard is untradeable without eating a good chunk of his cap hit.

I would like to stand pat at deadline. Love our youth, think we can be a very competitive club for foreseeable future. In this age of parity, it's going to be incredibly hard to get any sort of significant edge on the competition. Making the playoffs every season gives you a decent shot at making a run. Besides, we have no cap room this season and limited room next season given RFA's. Get rid of Quincy for a late round pick and go golfing for rest of year. I like our teams future.

I remember this discussion when the Jackets were trading Nash and everyone was saying they wouldn't trade him to a division rival, so they traded him to the Rags and then moved to their division a year later.

This "can't trade with someone in the division" stuff is nonsense.  Get the best return for what you're trading.  If they're in your division, so be it.  It could end up burning them and helping you.  Not to mention, its not like you're just playing THAT team.  If you settle for less return, trying to avoid trading within the division, you deserve a fate like what happened to the Jackets.  Also, I can't imagine Yzerman, if he is serious about trading either Stamkos or Drouin, wouldn't talk to the Wings.  We have a lot of good young talent and obviously, the personal relationship with the franchise.

What's your point with the Nash example?  The Red WIngs offered more for Nash than the Rangers did, but Howson chose to trade to a non-division rival.  So the NHL realigned things later, how is that relevant?

You have to DRAMATICALLY overpay to get a division rival to trade marquee talent with you, and seeing some of the trade offers bandied about on this forum, no one is willing to make the required overpayment.  And thankfully, Holland is not either.

Drouin will not be traded within the division.

All the GM's are busy right now. Ours is picking his ass again. He wont do anything until Feb. 29th, and then he will bring Al MacInnis and Teemu Selanne out of retirement to bump 2 fast, young guys out of our playoff lineup. This Stamkos + Drouin deal is nice to dream about, but a total waste of time. Our GM is a fricking clown.

The Lightning would never trade a guy like Drouin to a division rival.  NEVER.  So you can continue to live in a fantasy land believing Holland is our problem, but expecting him to do the impossible is ludicrous.

Or you can continue to bash Holland for all the success he has brought this team.  Quite frankly, you lost all credibility with me when you said Nyquist was a HUGE mistake that Holland made.  121st overall pick 20 goal scorer...and that is a mistake?!?!  You are either trolling, or you don't have any clue what you are talking about.

Holland has his issues (who doesn't) but calling him a fricking clown, lazy @ss who works three days a year makes you sound like the frickin clown.

No, it's not. We have 3 players that can only play a soft, small euro skill game. It kills us when we play teams built for playoff hockey. It's like freshman against seniors.

You are a troll. Drafting a guy in the fourth round of a draft and having him turn into a 20 goal scorer is great drafting, not a mistake. The large majority of fourth round picks never even see the NHL for a single game. Would you rather have had Holland draft a nobody? Or where there still a lot of high potential power forwards available in the draft when Nyquist was taken?

#2639648 Bigger nets ?

Why doesn't anyone understand that increasing rink size decreases scoring. It has been shown to lead to more perimeter play and fewer scoring chances.

Pulk is pretty much one dimensional, but 4 on 3 in OT would be his dimension!

Not really true. A game here and there, but not plenty of time.

Nope, look at his linemate times last season.

#2636672 Abby Signs 7-year, 29.75 mil Extension

Posted by greenrebellion on 12 November 2015 - 05:41 PM

Holland has lost his marbles. 30 million in guaranteed money is absurd for a one time 20 goal scorer who will be on the wrong side of 30 for most of his contract.

Between this, Weiss, kindl, green and E... This guy really just doesn't have the touch anymore. This team is incredibly bloated with wasted salary.

#2618523 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Posted by greenrebellion on 01 July 2015 - 07:20 PM

Reading the Caps forums, they are generally thrilled to be rid of the guy.  His offense was non-existant in the playoffs...14 games, 2 points.

He's way past his prime, injuries have significantly derailed his natural abilities and his defense is subpar (and that's being nice).

Only time will tell if this works out, but the more I look at it the more I dislike it....especially because we already have a glut of defensemen.

My biggest surprise with this deal is how the near unanimous response of the signing on these boards is VERY positive.  This is FAR from a slam dunk deal, and very well could be a disaster from day 1 as with Weiss.

No interest in green unless we are moving some guys out. We have way too many D as it is.

I am fine with standing pat this off-season as well.  Give the kids the playing time.

Ya but only one assist which is pretty depressing

Ya, all he ever does is shoot so its not surprising!

#2604900 Who is the coach next season?

Posted by greenrebellion on 30 April 2015 - 08:12 AM

Without Babcock this season, we miss the playoffs imo.  Team's outperform their true talent when Babcock is coaching.  Wouldn't be surprised if the Wings streak ended next season without him.
