#2532652 Rule Changes in the AHL (what the NHL has considered)

Posted by Mckinley25 on 20 July 2014 - 03:59 PM

The answer is, lose the shootout, keep the tie but award no points. Points only to winning teams, teams would fight hard to win. No gimmicks.

#2530120 When will we know about Alfie? (Legwand signed w. Sens)

Posted by Mckinley25 on 05 July 2014 - 02:32 PM

Least they made a move to address a hole. While we did......?????

Hell they're not even going to be good and still addressed their hole on their lineup after trading spezza away.

Completely different situations, Legwand does not make us better. Holland clearly addressed our need on defense, it just didn't work out and sometimes the best move is no move.

It is remarkable when you consider our draft placements.

#2529854 Article on FAs and Red Wings

Posted by Mckinley25 on 03 July 2014 - 05:48 PM

Last year I was very excited about being able to watch the Wings on HBO's 24/7.  I was looking forward to seeing who the goofy guys were, the serious guys, etc, etc.  I was extremely disappointed to see just how BORING today's Red Wings are.  I didn't see any personality from the team...with the exception of a couple.

You just don't see things like Yzerman giving his teammate a kiss on the "Kisscam" or Shanny motioning to the lady about hairy armpits while he's in the box, or Ozzie talking about how ripped he is in the pre-game.  I enjoyed watching the Maple Leafs on 24/7 much more than the Wings...their guys had personality and it was entertaining.

The Red Wings of today are boring, and I have to believe that plays a factor in F/A decision as well.

I think the Red Wings they showed on 24/7 were boring.

So Buffalo requires nearly 2 full lines of prospects for an underachieving dman?

I took that as meaning "one of"

#2527742 Ehrhoff or Niskanen

Posted by Mckinley25 on 01 July 2014 - 11:34 AM

Could be but Pitsburg is not the picture of stability right now, have goalie issues, and some contracts that are strangling them.  Holland couldn't sell Detroit, a team with great young tallent, some great established tallent, and a couple D men away from being an incredible team.  4 million, 1 year.  We couldn't have done 4.5 or even 5 for 1 year?

We may have.

Don't worry guys, I'm sure Holland kicked the tires on Erhoff. And that's all that counts.

He may just not have wanted to come here.

#2527558 It's too bad about us having Weiss...

Posted by Mckinley25 on 01 July 2014 - 08:59 AM

Yeah, I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect more than that from a 2nd line center. That is why they are 2nd line centers.

If they scored 70-80 points, they would be 1st line centers (see: Datsyuk, Zetterberg).

Even the cup winning Kings had centers with these numbers:

Kopitar. 70pts
Carter. 50
Richards 41

I don't know if they played center exclusively or how many games they played, but I think balanced scoring across the roster is more important.

#2526648 2014 draft thoughts.

Posted by Mckinley25 on 28 June 2014 - 12:55 PM

Wanted to go back and review this thread from the beginning. My first post was all about our strengths at G and D and the need for forwards. the second post was 3 targets for us to go after, one of which was larkin. Second year in a row that I had the draft pretty well nailed.
We ended up at 15, which back in January was the same spot. With our 7 picks we took 1 G and 6 forwards, all of which that are over 6ft tall. For years we had some crazy man crush on small players. The past 2-3 drafts we are finally drafting guys with modern NHL size. Overall great job by Holland and company!
Now we have no idea how any of these guys will turn out. The draft is all about getting value with each pick. This year we did it and didn't have any reaches. Very happy overall.
Once the season gets going again, I will still posting thoughts about the 2015 draft. But in about a week I will be taking a hockey break to enjoy the rest of the summer. waiting until the UFA period happens of course.

I'm glad you're taking a break, you worked hard this season. Looking forward to 2015.

#2523829 Wings sign Tomas Nosek to 2 year entry level deal

Posted by Mckinley25 on 14 June 2014 - 11:54 AM

Pretty sure that's kind of been the norm for most teams? I mean who is the last player to be on wings that's local besides dekeyser?

Legwand! Modano! Abdelkater? Rafalski!

What?

It's amazing how dependant I am on punctuation. I read that three times before I figured out where to pause.

You know that Rask is definitely going to get a

SHUT OUT!!!!!

I think that has the opposite effect when it's about the other team.

#2509518 WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

Posted by Mckinley25 on 14 April 2014 - 10:43 AM

Every time the Sharks make the playoffs, it's "Is THIS the year?" and then they fizzle out.

I think the Kings win this series and then the implosions/explosions begin in SJ.

I hope S.J. wins. I have nothing against them and L.A. won a cup recently.
