If not an enforcer. What is he?

I thought he was a checking line player.

What's Callahan going to do, bleed on him?  He's 6ft. and 195 lbs.  There's no honor or virtue in getting mauled by a giant.

Um...haven't you been paying attention? He should've punched him so no important players on our team would get hurt.

#2537282 Datsyuk 2nd degree separated shoulder injury - out approx 4 weeks

If McGrattan played for our team, Scuderi would have hit someone like Miller or Cleary instead.

At least I would, in his position.

I would hit the player carrying the puck.

Let's be honest, the only reason people defend fighting is because they want to watch fights. There's no statistics on cheap shots that I'm aware of, but I suspect the frequency hasn't changed because of the instigator rule or the refs or anything like that. In fact, and this is just based on my own experience of watching hockey from the eighties on, I believe cheap shot have drastically declined.

If injuries are up, particularly ones like Datsyuk suffered, it's likely because the game is so much faster and the players so much stronger. The game is changing, because the players are getting better.

Fighting in my opinion is an just a useless distraction from the game that should be abandoned with other sport antiquities like segregated baseball teams.

I think the term "doorknob" used above is about right.  I've always got the impression that Smith was the epitome of a dumb jock.  Lots of talent, nothing between the ears.  We've been lucky over the decades that our team has been full of pretty articulate, ambassadors of the game.  So we tend to forget that a lot of athletes are dumb as s***.  Brandon Inge was dumb but athletic.  Matthew Stafford is dumb but athletic.  And sadly, I think Brandon Smythe is dumb but athletic.

Agree, not everyone can be Larionov, play chess and speak 5 languages. Sometimes you're Brendan Smith, P is for puck, and that's good enough for him.

I second that. Hockey was play by men in those days now we have franzinas and crosbies

If those men were playing in today's game with increased speed and size they'd be strapping on those helmets faster than you can turn Frazen into a girls name.

Besides, there were undoubtedly what you refer to as "sissies" then too, we just don't know everything about every player 50 years ago.

******* awesome.

Between Jimmy and Monster (and even Mrazek) we've come a long way from this:

I prefer these. They came with cups.

The only thing I have about this Diaz signing is, do we really need another borderline 4/5/6 D man guy when we've already got 4 guys in GR who are practically knocking on the door, and in most other teams would be rounding out the 3rd pairing?

I'm all for improving the club, but it seems everyone here is automatically willing to give Diaz a job lest we forget though that he was traded twice and only played in 4 playoff games last year for the Rangers.

These tryouts are usually more about pushing the other players to work harder. Competition for jobs is a good thing.

The only problem is that they'd skate single file to hide their numbers, so they'd have horrible spacing.

That and they'd do terribly against the Seattle Krayt Dragons.

Aren't the ads based off of your internet usage? For instance my ads are for mycomicshop.com as I bought some comics recently from there.

#2532652 Rule Changes in the AHL (what the NHL has considered)

The answer is, lose the shootout, keep the tie but award no points. Points only to winning teams, teams would fight hard to win. No gimmicks.

#2530120 When will we know about Alfie? (Legwand signed w. Sens)

Posted by Mckinley25 on 05 July 2014 - 02:32 PM

Least they made a move to address a hole. While we did......?????

Hell they're not even going to be good and still addressed their hole on their lineup after trading spezza away.

Completely different situations, Legwand does not make us better. Holland clearly addressed our need on defense, it just didn't work out and sometimes the best move is no move.

It is remarkable when you consider our draft placements.
