#2526648 2014 draft thoughts.

Posted by Mckinley25 on 28 June 2014 - 12:55 PM

Wanted to go back and review this thread from the beginning. My first post was all about our strengths at G and D and the need for forwards. the second post was 3 targets for us to go after, one of which was larkin. Second year in a row that I had the draft pretty well nailed.
We ended up at 15, which back in January was the same spot. With our 7 picks we took 1 G and 6 forwards, all of which that are over 6ft tall. For years we had some crazy man crush on small players. The past 2-3 drafts we are finally drafting guys with modern NHL size. Overall great job by Holland and company!
Now we have no idea how any of these guys will turn out. The draft is all about getting value with each pick. This year we did it and didn't have any reaches. Very happy overall.
Once the season gets going again, I will still posting thoughts about the 2015 draft. But in about a week I will be taking a hockey break to enjoy the rest of the summer. waiting until the UFA period happens of course.

I'm glad you're taking a break, you worked hard this season. Looking forward to 2015.

#2523829 Wings sign Tomas Nosek to 2 year entry level deal

Pretty sure that's kind of been the norm for most teams? I mean who is the last player to be on wings that's local besides dekeyser?

Legwand! Modano! Abdelkater? Rafalski!

It's amazing how dependant I am on punctuation. I read that three times before I figured out where to pause.

You know that Rask is definitely going to get a

I think that has the opposite effect when it's about the other team.

#2509518 WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

Posted by Mckinley25 on 14 April 2014 - 10:43 AM

Every time the Sharks make the playoffs, it's "Is THIS the year?" and then they fizzle out.
I think the Kings win this series and then the implosions/explosions begin in SJ.

I hope S.J. wins. I have nothing against them and L.A. won a cup recently.

#2509517 WCQF - Series E - Colorado vs. Minnesota

A thread to discuss this matchup.
I'm rooting for the Wild simply because I cannot stand Patrick Roy.
I know, I know - very scientific.

This is a tough one; on one hand I do not want Roy to have success, on the other hand I don't want Suter or Parise to have success because I'm bitter that they chose Minnesota over Detroit. It's all very childish but that's why we have sports, right?

#2508366 4/9 GDT - Red Wings 3 @ Pens 4 (SO). Wings clinch playoff spot!

Can anyone explain why letang was first star? He was a minus one and had an assist. Dont get it.

I think because of his return from injury.

My second beef is the way this team is build: there are too many europeans and not enough hardworking NA guys andd I truly believe having more good ol michigan kids would help getting the fanbase excited and more "into it" /quote]

Michigan boys like Legwand?

I hope our Goose fairs a little better.

#2493232 If Kronwall isn't a #1

He's clearly a number one defenseman.  Anyone who says otherwise is being argumentative just for the sake of it.

He is a number one, but ideally he'd be our number two. I think this whole argument is based on people wanting a better number one defenseman, which we probably all agree on.

I can tell you based upon what we saw today that Detroit got hosed. I can tell you based upon Holland's own statements and the information available that the deals that were offered for players like Yandle and Jbo (among others) were in the same ballpark as what other teams were asked or actually paid. So I have to believe that Holland is the issue, not the 29 other GMs.

If it was that easy, I can't believe it didn't happen.

It's easy to sit here looking at a roster and making up trades that "could've" gotten it done.

#2490184 Nicklas Lidstrom:Greatest Red Wing Ever

How do you compare players from different eras? Howe was the best of his era. Its difficult for me to make any other judgement.

#2488569 Naming the New Arena

Posted by Mckinley25 on 02 March 2014 - 01:26 PM

Maybe if we all chip in they can call it letsgowings.com arena.

Instead of a statue of Howe or Yzerman they can rotate monthly a statue of which ever Wing we hate at the moment for vandalism purposes. Satisfies a lot of needs for Detroit.
