#2641482 Hey!

Posted by Mckinley25 on 06 December 2015 - 02:30 PM

Since the shootouts nor the 3 on 3 overtimes seem to please everyone.
They should just go to 5 on 5 overtime periods sudden death until someone scores. Just like during the playoffs
That might please everyone.
The only risk is that over the course of 82 games and 15-20 hockey season , a player might actually die of a massive heart attack.

I don't think there's a realistic way to please everyone, so I'm ok with the 3 on 3 because it's at least fun, I'd just prefer ties.

My only gripe is how the white is slanted. It feels like it is trying too hard to look modern. If it were level like the red band was on the winter classic jerseys, it would look much better.

The slant is terrible, diagonals are visually unsettling, it's a very poor design choice. The winter classic jerseys were perfect, horizontal is pleasing to the eye and the muted colors were a nice touch.

#2636748 Abby Signs 7-year, 29.75 mil Extension

Bowman leaving to go to Chicago and winning 3 cups with a team that hadnt won since WW2 whilst Holland has missed on every good UFA, continually signs bad contracts, trades prospects for crappy rentals that dont help, and doesnt play or trade players at the right time (notice how we are the ONLY team in pro sports that over-ripens) as the Red Wings get bounced early every year isnt enough to make you change your opinion or at least scratch your head and rethink it??

Over ripening is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. If you cant tell when your player is ripe, get a new job.

There is a correlation between being the only team that "over ripens" and the only team that has made the playoffs for 25 straight years.

You mention Chicago's success, but that was largely built around several bad seasons that allowed them to draft low and snag Kane and Toews.

Detroit could be back in contention if they tanked and had a few NHL ready picks out of the gate, but they've instead competed every year and developed (over ripened) prospects better than any other team.

Detroits biggest downfall, in my opinion, is that they haven't been able to acquire a franchise defenseman with their draft picks. That's easier said than done, but Subban and Weber were 2nd rounders I believe, I just wish we had found one in either Sproul or Oullete.

As far as free agents, there are a lot less of them, and only one team in 30 gets any individual player. The only big names Detroit missed out on (Parise and Suter) had Detroit at number 2, so Holland is at least the 2nd best GM in the league. Though it's not like the Wild have rocketed to elite status since that acquisition.

What did I miss. Who is this? I've been trying to figure out who this is referring to like a 'Brain Games' puzzle but can't work it out...

Young Floating Jeff Blashill. There's a picture of it earlier in the thread, it's a continuation of the Young Floating Mike Babcock picture.

#2634277 Breaking News! Wings defeated by local high school JV team!

Posted by Mckinley25 on 30 October 2015 - 10:11 PM

No, I don't believe its "trolltastic",  after watching the games so far this season, I could actually see a newspaper header like that. Believe me, I am a fan but, sometimes people just need to say what they're really feeling. I'm just venting!
I saw a bumper sticker the other day that totally depicts our society these days...
Sensitivity handcuffed America
so true, can't say anything anymore without hurting someone's feelings
cant tell someone that they aren't good at their job without possible repercussions of them suing
list goes on and on, and you can see it in forums as well.

But, it got your attention and you commented, so I would say it worked

No one's feelings are hurt, they're just pointing out that the thread doesn't promote constructive discussion.

My prediction and opinion, just as others have theirs

But when you condition your opinion with "folks need to realize that" it is nonsensical to leave out the information that supports your claim of "folks" ignorance.

#2633889 Is Dylan Larkin a lock to stay in the NHL beyond 9-games?

Posted by Mckinley25 on 29 October 2015 - 11:06 AM

Larkin now back with Zetterberg and Abby.  Tatar with Nyquist and Sheahan.  We've now seeing Tatar paired with Nyquist and/or Pulkkinen on a line with Richards, Larkin, and Sheahan.  It keeps not working.  Maybe the difference really is the center (it isn't).  Or maybe its the winger combinations (it is).

Is it just that we don't have enough of the right type of wingers to create four effective lines? Im not good at the line combination thing but it seems like after the Z, Larkin, Abby line, all of the 2nd and 3rd line players are same.

I thought Richards looked good
Lost to one of the worst teams in the league what's that make us

The new benchmark.

The team looks like they're hesitating about every decision, which could be the result of adapting to a new system they're not yet comfortable with.

Why do you think his uncle was his grandfather?

Sorry, but our GM has failed.

Suter and Parise could have been had for 10 mil a season. Strike 1.

Yandle could have been had for Mantha, Ouellet, and a first. Strike 2.

Phaneuf could have been had for Weiss and Smith. Strike 3.

Dougie Hamilton could have been had for Mantha, a first, and a second. Strike 4.

Do you have a source on these?

In her latest twitter update, Helene St. James not so subtly calls Joakim Andersson a "plug".  Is it just me or is her coverage getting weirdly critical and negative.  It's like there's always subtext.  Maybe I'm just reading into it, but it always seems like a backhanded barb or something.
Recent headlines include:
"Red Wings' Franzen (head) out Indefinitely - again"
"If no Glendening Friday when Wings host Carolina, Joakim Andersson available to plug hole."
"Red Wings' Jurco plays 'pretty well' in season debut".
"The Detroit Red Wings are too savvy to read much into their hot little start".

Helene St. James to "cover" Red Wings as result of Journalistic void in southern Michigan.

What's this?  The second leg of our Champions League game against Carolina?  We just played these guys.

I think there's another before the end of the month too.

#2630654 Cleary NOT reporting to Grand Rapids

Posted by Mckinley25 on 14 October 2015 - 07:36 AM

But didn't Maltby try didn't make it and retired into whatever position he has now with the Wings? Vs Danny who is making a semifuss over things.
I respect what Danny did to resurrect his career and playing on knees that finally gave out on him. But sometimes you have to look in the mirror and say I want to do X soooo bad but I can't anymore as my body just won't do it.

How is Danny making a fuss? This is literally the exact same thing that happened with Maltby, he signed a two way contract, got placed on waivers and decided not to play for Grand Rapids. What is the problem?

I'm so sick of this STUPID argument!!!! If we had Lindros, Gretzky, Lemieux, and Yzerman all 19 years old, half of Red Wings fans, so drunk on Ken Holland's idiotic excuse for not knowing when players are ready = "over ripening", would say they want them getting first line minutes in Grand Rapids. mIt's the dumbest thing I've ever heard! I swear to God I think Drew Miller gives half the fan base free lower bowl tickets to keep everyone saying how every good young player should develop in Grand Rapids three more years!!

Exactly!! Can you imagine Edmonton fans saying McDavid should get first line minutes in the minors vs. 2nd line minutes in the NHL. Why dont people like youth, energy, and speed around here? You think Larkin would have crushed this thinking by now. SMH

It's not black and white. The red wings aren't drafting all world talent every year, they're picking players with potential upsides because they didn't finish the season dead last in the standings.

Athanasiou or any individual player's NHl preparedness may be debated but the philosophy of sending later draft picks to the minors to develop is a sound practice with a proven track record of success.
