#2080949 I got to see the Cup Yesterday

The entire experience was amazing. I got to hang with the Cup Keeper and talk about Hockey history and what not. The rest of the time I was standing next to the Cup reading it and simply taking it all in. I really wish everyone could experience this.
The Cup was at Hank Graff Chevrolet yesterday between 2 and 4 for toys for tots, of course you had to donate money or toys, but it was a great event and alot of money and toys were donated.
Hope you all enjoy the pic (I'm on the left) and I hope you all will not be mad at me for too long!

I'm curious to see if Perron was embellishing the hit like Downie's hit in the LA game? Thats what I mean by guys tumbling to the ice and rolling around like they were hit by the zamboni! I think if a player embellishes the hit, they should receive an unsportsmen call!
Right after the Thornton hit Perron, David Backes was hit by Dany Heatly next to the boards. Heatly let up on the play as he was coming into contact with Backes, but Backes dove into the boards and of course fell to the ice like a sack of potatoes! Heats then was assessed a 2 minute boarding penalty! This is exactly what I'm concerned about is these guys embellishing these hits because they know the refs are looking for them, so they fake injury!
I wish the NHL would notice the guys faking injury are the ones ruining the game, not hits like Thornton, Doughty, and Heats!

And Honestly these negative comments about Ozzie need to stop, sure he is in a bit of a bind now, but he has ALWAYS pulled through ( no pun on the pulled part). Ozzie is a professional with 3 rings and being a backup in the NHL is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Is Ozzie as good as he was 2 years ago, No! But I would take him as a backup any day with his resume!!

There is no way that this was a dirty hit! NO WAY!!Contact was made with the shoulder and the hit was made on the shoulder. Just because the head snaps back does not mean that there was an intent to hit the head! What garbage! I understand that there will be bad calls until the refs understand what they are looking for, but we do have instant replay, so check it out first before throwing a guy out of the game.
I say that because I am afraid that guys that are on the receiving end of these hits will start to throw their heads back to draw attention to that just to draw a penalty! Or.... they will lay on the ice and fake an injury just to draw attention! Those are the clowns that need to be suspended!

#2044823 Kirk Maltby to announce he is retiring

When I read some of the posts in this thread, I am just appalled. Here is a guy that gave his heart and soul to the organization. He was a penalty killer and a grind liner. You don't win four Stanley Cups by accident. Detroit knew what they had here and they treated him well for many years. In return, he gave everything he had to the organization.
Yet, some of the fans on this forum piss on him and other players. Even Lidstrom is a target by some people, which is disgusting being as that we are all fans of the Red Wings here. This isn't the HFboards where there are asshats a plenty out there that like to start flame wars with other teams and fans.
I expect people here will be supportive of their Red Wings and the management. After all, they deserve to have our support being as that they haven't missed the playoffs in 25 of the last 27 seasons and the last 19 in a row. The players have shown that they care about playing in Detroit by giving it their all season after season after season.
Here is Maltby, a player who has given it their all for years. 75% of the posts here have the right attitude, which is supportive and remembering what Maltby brought to the table. The rest of the posters here are true morons. If not for the fact that they don't remember what Maltby did for the organization, but because he is a Red Wing. He will take a job in the front office because the Red Wings care about their players and the players care about playing here. I don't see this kind of commitment from many organizations out there.
Support your Red Wings guys. They are your team. If you don't like the team, go bandwagon on the Sharks and Hawks. I heard they need more fans on the bandwagon these days.
Happy retirement Maltby! You will be missed.
Thanks Nightfall. I was around when the Wings weren't making the playoffs every year and I remember when we made the playoffs in 1988. I just remember how excited I was ( I was only 9), I thought then that this team was going to do something special, then followed up the next year with 19 wins and didn't even sniff the playoffs and I wondered what was next. We all now what happened, but I always kept the faith in this team. I think may people on this board were not around during the DeadWings era, because if they were, we would not see these crazy comments about players like Malts and Drapes and yes, Even Lidstrom (which just baffles me)!
I will always remember Maltby in the playoffs, right when we needed a big goal, everyone would pick Stevie, Shanny, Kozlov, Feds, ect and who ended up with a goal..... Kirk Maltby! As far as I'm concerned, Malts was one of the best faces of the organization that there ever was. Will the #18 go to the rafters, probably not, but he will always be at the top of the lists of players with the biggest heart and dedication. We'll miss you Malts!! GO WINGS!!

I think the Conn Smythe is usually pretty spot on when it comes to selecting the winners. Malkin totally deserved it last year, he kicked our butts!

Hats off to Jimmy Howard and Brad Stuart, I personally thought those two were the team MVP's for the season.
Kind of think that the deep playoff runs in the last 3 years and then the trip to Sweden wore this team out and this maybe the best thing to happen, get an early break and recharge for next year!!
I think with the bad officiating and injuries, this team will be hungry and refocused for next year, Watch out NHL, the Wings will be back next year!
