#2533100 Wings stuff on clearance at Dick's

Posted by Gizmo on 28 July 2014 - 05:58 AM

Rick, sorry about that... I should have said "a common". :)

Franzen was the only option in my size. My wife and son got WC jerseys of some guy named "Howard" for the same price. ;)

Stopped into our local Dick's Sporting Goods and stumbled on two clearance rack of shirts, pullovers, sweatshirts, coats, hats, socks, and some jerseys. Items were 50-75% off the lowest ticketed price and most of the stuff had been previously marked down. I got a Franzen WC Jersey for $34, and a embrodered heavy winter coat for $54. I added it up at home and we got $856 of originally priced stuff for $206!
The store's name is the common nickname for "Richard". :)

#2420996 Ilitch reveals plan for new $450m, 18,000-seat Red Wings arena

While I conceed that a new barn is inevidable, I will mourn the reduction of the view of the upper bowl seats with the all-but-certain addition of the mid-level suites.  I suppose the reduction in seating is to allow for the suites as well as additional leg room from increasing the depth of each row.  But seeing as they haven't even apparently settled on a design, I think we'll have a number of seasons to still enjoy JLA.

#2417771 Visors Required - New NHL Players in '13-'14

I'm fine with it... but a lot of guys will just wear them tilited way up as to make them useless for protection like they do in the minors where they are required.

ya that call was terrible.  if anything 2 mins for charging.  he looked like he wanted to break Huskins' ribs.  never the less, crap call.

Agreed...  I understand why the trailing ref made the call due to the head-snap, but it was only a "chest cracker".  I wish we hadn't gotten the gamer winner on that PP, but then again we get screwed on calls too!

#2338792 I need a prayer answered, please.....no toot-toot whistles.

Normally, I'm not a violent person....  But all bets are off is someone near me starts blowing one of those things!  I'm glad he's our "little ball of hate" now, but the whistles are lame, and annoying.

Nobody post '09, please.

Wasn't that the Finals that the Pens had 7 skaters on the ice one time and didn't get a "too many" call??? I think that would qualify.

The only thing that would have been better is if Price had then skated to the other end and scored an open netter!

As for Eaves, well at least he got a "shot" off and it didn't give the Kitty Cats the win!

read it again perhaps?
I know people get instantly defensive when it comes to an issue like this and love to argue their side and lecture other adults about morels, right/wrong but if you look at his last sentence he isn't blaming the nhl. he simply states he would love to continue to provide this service but the party's been ruined. I'm just saying he is already being forced to close his site; chastising the dude like he is ignorant of the law comes off as a little insulting.

I wasn't chastising him, or attempting to lecture anyone on morals (pppst, that ain't my photo in my avatar!), or attempting to argue a legal point as there's nothing really to "argue" about the legality of unauthorized streaming. Perhaps it's matter of perspective as I create copyrighted material that I've seen misappropriated on-line without my permission from time to time and I know that people often get defensive when you ask them to stop the infringement and you're made to be the "bad guy". If Getty were to send me a note to ask that I find another image to use instead of Homer's butt in Mason's face, I'd do so and not be upset about it because I know I wouldn't have much if any ground to stand on.

But if the OP isn't blaming the NHL's flexing of their legal muscle as reason the party's been "ruined", then I don't know where you think that he thinks the fault lies instead. He could have said "Sorry guys, but I had to take it down over objections by the NHL" and left it at that.

If my post came off as insulting, I can assure you that that wasn't my intent. I'll add my thanks to the OP for making the effort while knowing that you were risking taking one for the team.

It probably happened because it's so obvious it didn't need to be mentioned. OP isn't naive I'm sure. No need for "Duh, what did you expect" (paraphrase)or other remarks. thanking him for his time and efforts was really all that needed to be said.

My response was aimed solely at the "blaming" comment. It's one thing to set up such a site, but another to then complain when the copyright owner steps in and exercises their legal rights.

Yes, it's a bummer that it's gone, but its days were numbered from Day 1, and the URL might have accelerated things a bit.

I would have loved to continue providing the service, but you can thank the NHL for ruining the party.

While I confess to having watched a streamed game or two after losing the battle for control of the family TV, I don't "blame" the NHL for anything in the C&D letter. Let's not kid ourselves, unauthorized streaming of copyrighted programming is blatantly illegal. It doesn't matter if it's "for profit" or done as a service for fellow fans. I'm sorry that you no doubt had the daylights scared out of you when you opened the letter, but could you really not see this coming? You registered a domain that screams "Hey, free illegal streaming of Red Wings games over here!!!!" I mean, dude......!

It's also not a Crosby-lovin'-Bettman thing. Show me one major sporting body that doesn't defend their broadcasts in such a manner.

"Mission statements" aren't normally written in the present tense... That's more like a "mission accomplished statement".

#2251803 Howard has broken finger, Joey Mac recalled

Well, if they splint it up right 6-8 weeks to heal. Then probably still splinted. Should be good by playoffs.

Heck, "buddy tape" it and send Howie back out there! :)

#2251333 NHL Investigation

Posted by Gizmo on 02 February 2012 - 03:27 PM

I don't see a lot of clock malfunctions, so I'm not sure how common it is.

Or, it might not even be a "malfunction" or human malfeasance:

"Those clocks are sophisticated instruments that calculate time by measuring electrical charges called coulombs, explained Kings general manager Dean Lombardi in an email to TSN. "Given the rapidity and volume of electrons that move through the measuring device the calibrator must adjust at certain points which was the delay you see the delay is just recalibrating for the clock moving too quickly during the 10 - 10ths of a second before the delay - this insures that the actual playing time during a period is exactly 20 minutes. That is not an opinion - that is science - amazing devise quite frankly."

I've noticed this phenomenon before. There are times when the clock on FSN will appear to briefly hang. However, I've only noticed this happen with more than 1:00 left, so it just appears that it takes a long time before the next second clicks off. I've just assumed that this was due to a "hiccup" between the arena's timing system and the networks. If what the LA GM says it true, then the timing mechanism picked a really bad time for Columbus to "re-sync".
