I am very happy and relieved and proud of DRW for making the playoffs for 24 straight seasons. It's an amazing accomplishment.
I also can do without the extreme negativity, never fun.
But I disagree with a sentiment of, "Hey let's be happy we're in, this team is still great!" Yes they are, but they have faltered after looking extremely promising at several points during this season. Further, expectations are reasonably high for this franchise. I believe it is understandable to be disappointed with this team. We invest so much as fans and sure, these runs to the playoffs are great, but it is not baseless to be somewhat disappointed.
All being said, love this team til I die and here's to an improbable playoff run. Cheers!
I had this sentence half-written, but then I considered Zidlicky. Sure, he's dropped off now. His production wasn't sustainable, but I thought he looked fantastic off the bat.
If anything, I find it weird how well he fit in right off the bat - he looked "on" right away. I think he's fallen off as time's gone on - shown his knack for bad penalties, lack of foot speed, getting too fancy in the offensive zone. I think Cole plays a simpler game that's going to translate well in the post-season. I'm optimistic that's he's got a couple "big goals" in him.
Totally agree. Zidlicky was excellent right off the bat, and that was a big plus for us. But even if he'd only been half as good I'd have considered it a successful trade. Cole has played fine so far, and will continue to do so going forward. Same with Zidlicky. They've both been excellent additions and have done EXACTLY what Ken Holland was hoping they'd do.
People bitching about Cole are the same ones who lament Stephen Weiss too. It drives me crazy.
It sucks having a team that's capable of being the best yet sh*ts the bed at all the wrong times, I'm really questioning our leadership or coaching, why aren't we prepared to play every night or at least 70% of the time, ridiculous.
Big E just needs to be demoted to the bottom pair or scratched this guy is useless, he doesn't create offense or shut people down, I think the Smith pair is good for offense but bad for defense why not scratch E and play
If Mrazek gets us into the playoffs, there's no way Howard will start. Even Babcock isn't that stupid. You don't punish a young goalie who carries you into the playoffs by benching him once the playoffs begin. Bad for morale.
This could be the last (hopefully) that we've seen of Howard as the number one goalie.
He punished Kindl for scoring a goal and making a beautiful breakaway pass on Abdlekader's goal last game but doesn't punish Ericsson for being useless. He punishes Weiss for turning the puck over vs Boston but refuses to punish Nyquist, who turned the puck over at least six time tonight. I say he has the potential to be "that stupid".
