I tend to agree with what Holland is saying. There are no top 6 forwards or top 4 dmen out there, so what's the point? Adding another aging 3rd or 4th liner isn't what this team needs. With the reduction in the salary cap next year and the buyouts that can take place this summer, I'd rather stand pat than make some desperate move that guarantees us nothing. So what will everyone be saying if Pitt doesn't win the Cup? Or Boston? Or Chicago? Or Vancouver? They're all favorites, but only one team is going to take it, and it's possible none of them will.
Vanek, Pominville, Yandle, and Gaborik are all available. But you're not going to get a sniff of any of them if you start by saying "I'm not going to trade any top prospects or my first round pick".
You know what's crazy, when you add a "dynamic" player to your team it tends to change the team's...dynamic. Strange I know, but doesn't anyone else feel like even a lateral move might be worthwhile here considering our current core doesn't seem capable of getting anything done?
I must admit.....Franzen just can't do anything right in my book. Im not saying im right. I'm afraid I have already given up on him. He was a beast in the 2008 playoffs though. I sure wish we had THAT guy.
If there's no difference on the money, how exactly can Kenny "fumble" this? Some peope want to be near home and family. Some young people want to get as far away as possible. Perhaps he'd feel more pressure to play with the Wings? If the Wings get him, fine. If not, no big deal. I think most people here really don't know that much about him, they just want to "win" the DeKeyser sweepstakes.
I cannot like this enough. People need to stop with the "Holland better get this done or its his fault" mentality. Holland has done everything he can do. Danny has to make up his mind and sign. Holland can't make him sign.
Yes indeedy. The downside, of course, is...he's been set up on a silver platter for the Wings. So: if Holland fumbles this, the fans cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war. And all that.
I don't see how Holland can do much more than he already has.
The money is the same. Holland has promised the kid to start in the NHL. Its not like Holland has something he can offer the kid that 15 other clubs aren't offering. His favorite team is the Red Wings so that factors into his favor.
The point is that it isn't on Hollands shoulders at all. He has done his due diligence. If the kid signs elsewhere, that his choice. Not Holland's fault for not being Obi Wan Kenobi. "Sign here Danny (waves his hand)."
Carmen is spot on. I went to UM and got an Econ Major, Poli Sci Minor because I wanted to learn how the world works. The Econ material was educational, but the Political Science was pure unadulterated indoctrination as oppossed to growth and development.
Yes, the NHL is a major committment with major scrifice, but so is everything that comes with that pay scale. Cory Emmerton is getting paid more than the President of the United States of America.
