#2328864 Wings sign Carlo Colaiacovo to 2 year deal, $2.5m cap hit

Believe it or not points aren't all that plays into salary for defensemen.
Carlo is a decent puck moving defenseman, he's nothing more than an average to below average in terms of defense, Ericsson plays a ton more in shorthanded situations, and is much more physical. Different players demand different salaries depending on the role they play. One also had much more leverage on the team, Ericsson's not a world beater by any means, but he does provide something the wings don't have much of on the back end, toughness, and size. Which the Wing's lost quite a bit with Stuart.
Fair points, but I gotta disagree with you on Ericsson being more physical. While the guy does have the size advantage, he's also a pylon and rarely makes use of it. He is a decent puckmover though.
Haven't watched too much of Carlo so can't really comment on his defensive abilities but yeah, the general consensus seems to be he's a solid 5th/6thdefender when he's healthy. Also, he's got pretty good numbers.

#2324076 Bouwmeester opinions? Potential trades? *merged*

I'm pretty sure even the people that like Bouwmeester don't want to give up these assets. I would only do it for players not on the roster, or non top six guys.
Even with his enormous cap hit, he's still a top pairing guy, and it's not like we would use the whole 13 million anyways. Bouwmeester is overpaid, and overrated, no one is denying that, but that doesn't make him a bad defenseman, it just makes him a bad #1 guy.
He's finished + only ONCE in his career, and last year finished -21. How can anybody with those kind of stats be considered "a top defenseman".

Besides, a top pair defenseman is of more priority now.

#2322397 Holland losing his moxie? Is Detroit slipping as UFA destination?
Posted by ShanahanMan
on 27 July 2012 - 06:50 AM
If our amazing amount of young talent is so amazing, why are giys like Holmstrom, Bertuzzi, Tootoo, Eaves, Miller, and Samuelsson getting the minutes? People need to wake up and realize that Tatar, Nyquist, Brunner, etc all would have had 60-80 games played last year if they were so amazing. The Darren Helms and Dwight Kings of hockey dont get held bacl for development long, much less the Datsyuks and Kopitars.
Well.....uh, to be fair, it would have been a bit hard for those guys to put up minutes for us while they were playing for other teams........or other leagues.

I mean, yes we're an original six team with a previous winning tradition. However, we're also a team with an old, dilapidated arena, a team who just lost their franchise player, full of aging veterans and unproven youth....a team, playoff wise, has been going the wrong direction for the last 4 years.....
Yeah, doesn't really scream "attractive" does it?

#2320545 Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)

A team that couldn't win with Weber, Suter and Radulov needs only Weber and one other good defenseman to win the Cup? How about no?
The lengths to which you go in order to disparage the Wings' chances and inflate those of other teams is amazing.
Can you make single post without insulting the person you're responding to? Just once?
Couldn't win? You're defending our roster yet at the same time discounting a team that destroyed us in the playoffs? I seriously can't wrap my head around the way your logic works.
The Predators put together a damn solid team essentially from scratch due to good management and smart draft choices. We lose Stuart, Rafalski, Lidstrom in the span of two years and you think all is fine, yet they lose Suter and you immediately think they "cant win"? I don't consider Radulov a loss, and the loss of Suter will definitely hurt, but I can think, as long as they retain Weber, they are still a team that can go far.
But it doesn't matter what I say, because in your little world, you'll always think we have a Stanley Cup caliber team regardless of the names on the roster.

Haha, so a GM that can't get good proven young talent from other clubs for our scraps is a bad GM? Let me give you a hint here....no GM can work that magic, especially in the new NHL. I don't care if you pay your GM 6 million or 60 million a year. No GM is going to perform the NHL version of the Louisiana Purchase.
At the end of the day, regardless of what your excuse is..... if the decisions you make/don't make as a GM are gradually leading your team to become weaker and weaker, than you're simply not doing a good job as GM. Simple.

that price is a little low for weber. nashville will match no problem. if they dont nashville will explode.
some how the wings are looking better and better in the division hah
very surprising nonetheless
Match then trade next summer would benefit Nashville the most.

If Weber has made it clear to Nashville that he wants OUT, I wonder if a sign-and-trade scenario is still possible......
