#2320140 Flyers sign Weber to offer sheet: 14y/$110m ($56m 1st 4yrs)

Posted by ShanahanMan on 19 July 2012 - 05:50 AM

that price is a little low for weber. nashville will match no problem. if they dont nashville will explode.

some how the wings are looking better and better in the division hah

very surprising nonetheless

Match then trade next summer would benefit Nashville the most.

It really is the end of the world then.

One thing though.....

If Weber has made it clear to Nashville that he wants OUT, I wonder if a sign-and-trade scenario is still possible......

What people also need to get is this will definitely create a domino affect, driving up the value for elite defensemen exponentially. Any hopes we had of trading for Yandle, Enstrom, etc. is all but gone.

#2319979 We can still win it all THIS season, but...

It's funny how everyone on this board whines about getting younger... But when there's an opportunity of inserting Brunner and/or Nyquist into the top-6, everyone screams that Holland's an idiot and should sign Semin and Doan. Doan wants term... four years... He wants this to be his last contract. That means one less spot for the likes of Brunner, Nyquist, Tatar, Pulkkinen, Jarnkrok, Jurco... And a couple more years of whining about how the wings have to get younger. The same goes for Semin... If we sign him and he works out, and the wings sign him long-term next year, that means zero top-6 openings for a number of years... Unless of course you see Datsyuk, Doan and Franzen as the third line in 3 years.

Uh, no. You're leaving out a critical point from that statement. We're actually whining about getting younger with proven talent. Brunner and Nyquist are not, as of now, proven NHL top-6 forwards and until then, yes, we will continue to whine about getting younger with proven NHL caliber players.

Yep, this just puts to rest what most of us already knew. No way Nash gets traded to Detroit no matter what's on the table.

#2318780 Holland Content with Current Roster

Same old s*** from Holland.

He's done nothing of significance the last several deadlines and offseasons.

This offseason, his big accomplishment is signing a 4th liner that any GM could have signed and that old goof Samuelsson, who we don't need at this point. And that's coming off three early playoff exits in a row and the retirement of your best player for the last decade.

I don't know what our record will be next season, but the offseason up until now has been a disaster. But Holland's mentality is, "All is well"

Honesty is a b****.

We always seem to be on the same page with these matters, yet for whatever reason, you never get ripped apart like I do.

What's your secret?

Good God, that is not what he even said.... Stop twisting things to make it sound the way you want it to. He said they have guys that can fill in, so it's not like they are down to 4 defensemen.

Uh, no, that's not what he said. He never said "fill", he specifically said "replace", as in these guys will replace Stuart and Lidstrom. Not sure how you can read it any other way...

Yeah, risk bringing in a guy who has, by all accounts, a horrible attitude and questionable worth ethic. Risk that because it's not your money, so let's just go on a spending frenzy and grab all the average players we can. Holland is smart not to blow everything up by spending like a 16 year old girl the weekend before Prom. Get a grip people, the sky is not falling. The team, as is, will make the playoffs and will compete.

Remember when everyone wrote Datsyuk off as a non-playoff contributor? How did that turn out?

How exactly are we risking our money if it's not being allocated to anything else...? If it's essentially, just sitting there? Don't risk some money on a previous 40 goal scorer for a team in need of scoring depth? Just don't understand your argument...

And then you say we WILL make the playoffs and WILL compete? You come to that consensus based on......what exactly? Do you not realize this is now a team MUCH weaker than the one that was first to get eliminated and won a single game last playoffs? And yet, somehow, you think with a weaker roster we'll somehow do.....better?

Am i missing something here? I just dont understand the logic!

Better luck next year.

That line has been on loop for the last 4 years.....

Disappointing to say the least. Here's some highlights from a couple morning articles. Don't expect any new Red Wings anytime soon folks!

“Once you make those decisions, you are out of the game for a decade, you know?” he said. “So, I don’t know if people think we’re going to have major announcements this year, next year and the year after. The league doesn’t work like that. I’m confident, at some point — and it might be next year or the year after — that the history, the tradition, the commitment of our ownership, the passion of our fans, is going to all add up to having an opportunity to bring a player of significance here.”

Basically, SOMEDAY we'll get a good player.....

Detroit Red Wings, your 2015 Stanley Cup Champions!!

“I don’t think we need a whole bunch of guys,” Holland said at Wednesday’s Hockeytown Winter Classic press conference. “I think if we can get one more player, (we’ll be fine). First off, we’re done in goal. I think we’ve got lots of pieces of up front. Obviously, with the loss of (Brad) Stuart, the loss of (Nick) Lidstrom, we’re not as deep as we’ve been in the past in defense. Two players that are going to replace him that weren’t here (last year) are Brendan Smith and (Kyle) Quincey, so it’s not like we’ve lost two guys and don’t have any players.”

Yes Holland, you're right. It's not like we have any kind of scoring problem and desperately need a top 6 forward, despite the fact that we scored an average of 1.8 goals per game during the playoffs AND our own coach said we lost due to weakness in scoring potential for our 2nd and 3rd lines. Sure Holland, all is fine.

And yeah, saying Smith and Quincey will replace Lidstrom and Stuart, respectively, is in it's own level of idiocy alone.

Enjoy your summer folks.

#2317491 How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

Posted by ShanahanMan on 09 July 2012 - 07:31 PM

Hmmmm....it's kind of hard to find one.....hmmmm.....

Igor Larionov 41
Chris Chelios 40
Brett Hull 37
Dominik Hasek 37
Steve Yzerman 36
Steve Duchesne 36
Luc Robitaille 35
Fredrik Olausson 35
Brent Gilchrist 34
Brendan Shanahan 33
Sergei Fedorov 32
Nicklas Lidstrom 31
Kris Draper 30

Man, these guys were old! I know they are mostly HOF's, but you asked if we remembered the last time a team with the core of mid 30's won a Cup.....

Considering 8 of those players are considered some of the best to ever player the game, and most people compare the 02 team to icing an All-Star team, so yeah....rare case ;).

#2317366 How bad are we if our roster is now finalized?

A lot of you guys are in denial it seems. You speak as if Z and Dats were in their 20's still. They're aging forwards who will NEVER put up the numbers they once had, so don't expect them to.

Can you last remember when a team with a core of mid 30 year olds won a cup?

Without a talented youth injection, there is zero hope for us. This is simply not a playoff team.

#2316623 The Next Move

Posted by ShanahanMan on 06 July 2012 - 11:10 PM

I think its pretty obvious now that the main FA left that Holland is targeting is Doan, especially considering all his "we need veteran leadership comments".

While he's a great player, can someone please explain to me why we need him of all people? I just don't get it. Veteran leadership? Most of our core team are seasoned veterans!

Datsyuk - 33
Zetterberg - 31
Franzen - 32
Kronwall - 31
Bertuzzi - 37
Sammy - 36
Clearly - 33

Given this, it seems we have plenty of veteran leadership and I just fail to see what Doan could possibly provide except some toughness and some more goals. We should be trying to get younger, trying to get a sniper to play wing with Pav. Another 35+ player on a team of aging veterans? I just don't get it.....

#2316533 Semin

Posted by ShanahanMan on 06 July 2012 - 07:16 PM

semin is thef****** weakest player in the league, you REALLY want him? Horrible disgrace to hockey.

Team that can't score + guy who can score 40 goals = team that can score more.

Elite or not, as it stands, they have a much stronger roster than us and I'm willing to guarantee that they finish ahead of us in the standings next season.
