#2240061 12/30 GDT : Red Wings 2 at Blackhawks 3

No matter what, I will always despise Franzen and Hudler and will never get over the fact that they kept Franzen over Hossa.

Worst mistake Holland ever made.

Best off-season signing EVER

Dude......Hank.....you are the turnover king tonight.

i'm gonna reiterate (sp) babcock here.

our best players are not our best players.

flip, Z, franzen, cleary, hudler, dats a little.

we count on these guys to score which at this point is sad.

we don't need a huge skake up but something has to be done.

we're too streaky and we just don't have "IT" so far this year.

just not a good enough TEAM.

if things stay status quo we'll make the playoffs and maybe go out in the 2nd round again.

It's simple.

Our "stars" are simply passed their prime.

The young guys will always be average players, at best.

Haha, Ericsson trips over his own feet.

Awesome! Glad to have this guy locked up.

#2203891 Brunnström to try out for Wings

Posted by ShanahanMan on 15 August 2011 - 06:51 PM

So let me get this straight.

Bringing in Brunstrom, a young guy who tore it up in Sweden, a guy looking for a fresh start (sound familiar?), and would sign for league minimum = BAD

Bringing in a guy at the end of his career to a team thats in desperate need of younger guys for 1mil = GOOD

LGW boggles the mind at times.

#2201032 Kris Draper announces retirement

Posted by ShanahanMan on 26 July 2011 - 08:34 AM

It's shameful that we've come to a point where Ericsson is making 3.5, Hudler is still a wing, and Draper is forced to retire. Sad times indeed.

You will be missed Mr.33

#2195099 Richards to NYR

Posted by ShanahanMan on 02 July 2011 - 10:30 AM

Hanks the exception as he is a beast. Franzen and Richards are in the same boat though...

I suppose I can take that to an extent.

I just love how everyone on here calls this signing by the rangers dumb and the Franzen signing by Holland as "genius".

Talk about homerism.

#2194966 Wings re-sign Ericsson to 3-year, $9.75m contract

Posted by ShanahanMan on 02 July 2011 - 12:59 AM

Everyone keeps saying this like it's a defense of the signing. If he could make more elsewhere, LET HIM GO MAKE MORE ELSEWHERE! I see the point of the going rate for defensemen, but anyone who thinks theres even a tiny chance Big E fills Rafalski's shoes (successfully) in the Top 2 is delirious. I know Holland said he's still looking, but that "we could always just rely on Ericsson for our Top 2
replacement" quote sounds an awful lot like "this is what we'll be doing since there's nobody out there."

110% agree with everything you said.

If you read what Holland has said and what I said, you'd understand that no one is stating Ericsson is replacing Rafalski. Where do you get this s***? Read! Holland is doing what he can to get a top 4 defender, but pickings are slim. If we can't, he'll expect the ENTIRE defensive unit to pick up their games to offset the loss. It is, after all, a team sport.

I'm making the best of the situation instead of bitching about it. It's called being positive and trying to see the bright side. Give it a try.

There's a difference between being positive and sticking your head in the sand.

July 2nd.

Exactly. If Holland can somehow pull a miracle put of his ass, it's a different story. But given he's already stated he doesn't mind Ericsson in a top pair role indicates to me that the team we have is the team that will start the season.....in other words, we're screwed.

#2194895 RFA/UFA Signings

Posted by ShanahanMan on 01 July 2011 - 11:04 PM

Anyone think there might be a reason why none of the legit contenders were willing to sign Ehrhoff, Wiz or Kaberle to big contracts?\

Wiz doesn't have the body of work to justify a 6 year 5.5 million dollar cap hit on a real team. I wanted the Wings to sign him but not for a deal like that.

I'm glad Holland isn't the kind of dumbass GM who makes a signing in the summer just so he can have a big, exciting press conference to make all the fans happy. If there isn't a piece that fits the Wings in terms of the team AND the salary structure the smart move is to look for other options.

I just checked the calendar and it's not October. I also checked NHL.com to see where the Wings were in the 2011-2012 standings... looks like we're fine there as well. Let's not flip out just yet.

You're right....he's just the kind of dumbass that signs a 5th/6th defenseman for over 3 mil a year.

The fact of the matter is the Wings team that got eliminated in second round twice in a row just lost their #2 defeseman. The same team that also had trouble scoring more than two goals a game against SJ (their defense isn't that great) did nothing to add some firepower to their second line.

I don't care what Holland's damn excuse is. When you lose your #2 guy, you HAVE to be aggressive. I don't care if that means handing out a rental player contract to get us by until the market has more to offer. Once again, he sat on his hands and said "meh".

At this point we'd be lucky to make the playoffs.

Holland is delusional.

Is he actually trying to imply are team is pretty set?

And then to say Ericsson is fair market value and is an important part of the team...

Has he lost his damn mind?

Who gives a f*** about all the Canadian teams. Why do they only talk about these teams? what about Detroit?

Yeah.....who could imagine a Canadian sports network focusing primarily on Canadian teams...

The nerve...
