    6/22 GDT - 2018 Entry Draft

I haven't been a frequent poster around here in almost 6 or 7 years, but WOW. Forget defense.... we are still gonna be very bad next year, but the future begins NOW.

04/09 GDT : NJD vs DRW : 5 PM ET Last Game at Joe Louis Arena

Haven't been around these parts in ages (looks like my last post was 3 1/2 years ago) but just wanted to say the Goodbye to the Joe ceremony was amazing (thank god Fox Sports Detroit posted the entire ceremony on youtube). So many great memories and so many former players from the 80s, 90s and the 00s - and not just the stars either. Loved that even the players were soaking it in with many waving to their family in the stands and recording the moment on their phones. It was sad at parts of course as it would have been so great if Gordie and Mr. I. were still around, but if anything the ceremony reaffirmed to me the Red Wings tradition will always live on. From the crowd to the speeches to the final hockey stick salute from the players to the fans and vice versa, it was everything the Wings and the Joe stood for. What a franchise, what a place, what a city. P.S. Come home Stevie!

Patrick Roy goes crazy on Bruce Boudreau

Great to see Patty Wah back in the big show. No one blows gaskets like he can, and even though it only took one game to witness his first 'episode' it's not all that surprizing given the Ducks propensity for bush league antics.

    TSN's Onrait & O'Toole, comin' to ya.

Used to live in Canada (until last summer) and I think Jay and Dan are AWESOME. The American audience (including myself) are gonna enjoy them IMO.

    Grant Hill retires

Even though this is a hockey forum I just wanted to pay tribute to my favorite basketball player of all time. Though he never won a championship and only played 6 years for Detroit, Hill in his prime was arguably the most explosive and dynamic player to ever wear a Pistons uniform. Moreover the guy epitomized class and professionalism on and off the court. I'm glad he was able to retire on his own terms, and as a Pistons fan I thank him not only for his efforts for us, but also for the fact his sign-and-trade to Orlando for Ben Wallace began Detroit's eventual ascent back to the top in 2004.
  7. WOOOOOOO!!!! Most unexpected series win in all my time as a wings fan. Can't believe how much our depth forwards and green D stepped up in this series.

Should I take an octopus to Dallas?

Fun thread even if the OP wasn't the octopi culprit. Watched the game at a bar with 0 other Wings fans, or even hockey fans for that matter, and still enjoyed every minute of it.

    Thank You Detroit Red Wings...

Excellent summary by the OP. It's pretty amazing for me to see how far they've come from opening night (quick refresher: they lost 6-0 in a game that I drove 3 hours to attend) to where they are today. They are still way too reliant on the magic of Dats and Z, but it's a joy to see that the future is not all doom and gloom, and the progression of the next generation of the Winged Wheel is coming along nicely.

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

Wings need to look harder. Our D is atrocious right now... like 1980s bad.

1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

WOOOOT! I was at the game on Saturday and I'll just state the obvious; watching this one (albeit on TV) was so much more enjoyable. Ever since Lidstrom's retirement (and Detroit's subsequent failure to acquire decent reinforcements) I've accepted that this would be a tough year for our D and special teams. The first couple of games have comfirmed this for me, but I'm still glad as hell hockey is back and seeing how mediocre we are now actually makes me savour these normally forgettable regular season victories a lot more.

Exit interview with legendary Red Wing Nicklas Lidstrom

Excellent read. Thanks for the link Jack!

Nick Lidstrom retires after 20 seasons

F*** yeah!! What an awesome sendoff by the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the people of Detroit!
