#2419999 Talking Tootoo

Posted by GMRwings1983 on 14 June 2013 - 10:19 PM

This isn't the '80s anymore.  With the salary cap and the way the game is played now, there just isn't room on a roster for one dimensional players.  As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread, Tootoo isn't exactly a figher or an enforcer, he's more of a pest.  But he needs to bring more to the table than that.  He needs to score more, be good defensively, a good penalty killer, dominate on faceoffs, just something else.  Taking penalties at inopportune times doesn't help any either.

I don't remember him taking any more dumb penalties than Smith, Quincey or Abdelkader.  What are these penalties that Tootoo took this season?  I don't remember him costing us too many games.

He's not one-dimensional either.  Look at his career numbers and then look at Tony Twist's or Stu Grimson's.  How is Tootoo one-dimensional?  He fights and he lays good bodychecks.  Scores as many points as most 4th liners in the league.  What is he not doing right?

I feel like there's too many posters here who look at all 4th line fighters as being in the same basket.  Too much stereotyping.

I don't understand how or why Tootoo should be bought out. He did exactly what was expected of him. Also, the "one-dimensional" argument baffles me. He put up 8 points in 42 games. For comparison, Emmerton put up 8 in 48. When I think of one-dimensional players, I think of John Scott and Jody Shelley. And the notion that "he takes stupid penalties" is laughable, considering guys like Smith and Abdelkader have, on several occasions, taken idiotic penalties at the worst possible times during games. Don't remember Tootoo blowing any games for us.

I like Miller, but we need to move on.  Tatar, Pulks, Frk - these guys dont bring a big drop off from Miller.  We have got to get them seasoned.

It's a little early to start talking about Pulks, and Frk. Pulks just got to America and Frk hasn't even played with anyone over 18 yet. Sheahan, Ferraro, and Jarnkrok will be up before those two. Look for Miller to be resigned due to him being a utility player...

#2397281 Samuelsson on the top line tonight - god help us all !

Posted by VM1138 on 06 May 2013 - 11:38 AM

Sammy can hit, too.  He plays a different game than Abdelkader, but maybe mixing up our attack won't be such a bad thing.

I still don't get why Tootoo isn't allowed to play.  Isn't this type of series exactly what we got him for? He must be annoyed.  I don't remember him making stupid mistakes or anything to justify his removal from the lineup.

after the toss in the third, we never saw security escort anyone out. i think the tosser made it off scott free.

I don't know about America, but were I come from, calling someone a "tosser" is quite an insult ;)

You lost me right there.

Wow.  I wish huskins the best.  You also see the philly guy watching out for his teammate?  He was on him instantly...wish Detroit had someone like that now.  Too too doesn't count since he is never on the ice...

This is also where fighting has its place in hockey.  You suspend him he learns nothing.  He gets the royal snot beat out of him he will think twice next time.  Hockey players used to govern themselves and they still should.

#2382803 ESPN: The 7 deadly sins of roster construction

Posted by Nev on 10 April 2013 - 03:04 PM

The usage of this quote was clever at first. Several thousand uses later, it is getting very tiresome, even more so because it comes up in almost every single thread about the team.

This I agree with

If you dislike this iteration of the Wings so much, then go cheer for another team.

This not so much.

#2376409 Crosby left the game after puck to the face

Edited the thread title to be less obnoxious.

I understand not liking Crosby, but celebrating that he got hit in the face with the puck is lame.

Posted by Bring Back The Bruise Bros on 15 March 2013 - 05:04 PM

Tootoo better not be benched again. There is no justifiable reason for benching a guy that literally gives it all out there every shift. He's not half the defensive liability that Emmerton is.

Good move Kenny.

This will give Tatar time to overripe.
