#2533305 Samuelsson signs new contract....... with Djurgarden.

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 29 July 2014 - 02:51 PM

As fun as it is to bash on Sammy, I'll never forget him for starting and finishing this play:

Also the two opening goals in Game 1 of the 2008 Finals against the Pens.

And the hundreds of logo shots.

Agreed.

All shin pad assassin jokes aside, Sammy was a bargain during his first stay here in Detroit.   He had good size, was irritating to play against, and put up good numbers for his salary.

It's just unfortunate that Holland keeps repeating the mistake of bringing back former players, but I hold no ill will for Sammy.

Now the glass and boards at the JLA can sleep easy knowing that Sammy won't be around to hurt them anymore.

Yea, but no one says what they'd do as GM. I bet if the average Red Wing fan became GM, he/she would make horrible trades and sign over priced UFA's. We'd be like the Leafs and our team would be build around guys like Kessel, Phaneuf, Lupul, Clarkson, van Reimsdyk and Bozak for the next 4 years plus. No thanks, I'll take Kenny, who's building the team with the draft, isn't signing any over priced UFA's, and actually knows how the cap works.

I understand signing Quincey and Cleary isn't "sexy", but they're only 1 and 2 year deals. That Niskanen deal is insane! Smith and Dekeyser are going to be better then him. Unless a team has drafted the player, I don't think any UFA should be signed for over 4 years. Do an online search and see how many horrible long term UFA signings there's been since 2005-06. The Wings don't have any bad ones over 3 years. The only potential bad one could be Weiss, but he's got a few years to still make the deal a good one.

Yes and Dan Cleary can play better hockey than anyone on this board too.  Like Cleary, Ken Holland is a professional (in theory), who is paid a LOT of money to do his job

Pretty much anyone in a professional field is better at their job than someone who isn't part of that field.  But that certainly doesn't mean that an outsider can't objectively see when someone is sucking at their job.

Edit: To add to that, if the new standard for managing the Wings is, "well, he's better than fans on a message board," we're in a s**t-tonne of trouble.

#2531709 Confused on the direction of this team going forward

I was able to quickly fix their direction of travel

that would imply that the organization is moving in the right direction, I honestly thought they were moving backwards on purpose lol

Dan Cleary's bonus is $1 million for 10 games played. #RedWings

This s*** just gets more and more comical, Dano is going to make 2.5 million next year

#2529759 Hollands new contract a no brainer?

Posted by VM1138 on 03 July 2014 - 01:09 PM

Consider what you just wrote.

Resign and re-sign mean very different things.

If you meant resign, then Babcock will only re-sign if Holland is fired.

If you meant re-sign, it means Babcock will only re-sign if Holland returns.

Punctuation is important.

#2528922 Quincey re-signed by DET. 2 yr s $4.25 mill AAV

Posted by haroldsnepsts on 01 July 2014 - 06:33 PM

Damn you Kenny Holland...you offered better contracts but didn't do some kind of voodoo s*** to get guys to come here....seriously, WTF do you want Holland to do?   He made better or equal offers and lost players to teams that are no better or worse than we are.

What exactly should he do?

I want Holland to do his job well.  He's been flailing over the last several years.   The reason they're not coming here is because players aren't excited at the prospect of playing for the Red Wings anymore.  That's on Holland.

No one is saying his job isn't extremely difficult, but it's that way for 29 other GM's.  As I said in another thread, replace Holland's name with Dan Cleary.  Cleary outworks just about everyone on the team which is admirable but he simply doesn't get the results to be competitive at the NHL level.

Is that acceptable because he's a great guy who's trying with everything he's got?

I don't care how hard Holland tried.  Results matter.  He's not getting any.

George Malik @georgemalik 46s

NINE MILLION DOLLARS FOR ROBIDAS AT 37 WITH REPEATEDLY BROKEN LEGS? THANK YOU FOR SAYING NO KENNY I THINK.

For once, I agree with his analysis.

Problem is, if Kenny HAD signed him, Malik would have had a blog post out tonight explaining why it was such a shrewd move and going on and on about how "with just a little luck" it'll be a genius acquisition.

He's never wrong because he never commits to anything until after it already happens.

Gonna be fun watching Jarnkrok tear up the league next year all for a rental for the 4th line.

Backman, Sproul, Almquist, Jensen, Oulette, Marchenko... Can we play any combination of these guys instead of Kindl and Lashoff?

Can we keep the bitching and moaning about the Wings roster to the multitude of threads devoted to bitching and moaning about the Wings roster?

#2515789 The Franzen Hate.

Posted by joesuffP on 25 April 2014 - 01:17 PM

Franzen has 11 playoff points the last 3 years. Scored 1 goal the last 3 months of the year until our eventual elimination. Those 5 goals in 7 games is a streak he should have gone on 4-5 times in a year not once.

Gus has 23 goals in 28 games. Now that's a real streak that got us into the playoffs, not Franzen's 5 goals in February

That is my son! He was estastic when he got home with it! He even told me he was gonna learn to shoot righty (he's a lefty). Was a awesome act by Tootoo, and I know my son will not soon forget the gesture.
