Awful. Has the word "little" in it. Although I guess that's pretty apt for the current roster.

#2674684 Ownership shows Support for Kenny Holland

Posted by uk_redwing on 30 April 2016 - 06:29 PM

Just popping in to say it looks like the penny has dropped with a lot of people. Ken Holland is a clown who hid behind the success of Håkan Andersson for many, many years.

With the majority of Andersson's players gone or on the decline there was never any real attempt by Holland for so many years to keep the Wings at the top, just a lot of cast away one-year rentals that and the never ending presence of Dan Cleary.

He has literally waited to the point where we're on the cusp of becoming a team that won't even make the playoffs before he's decided he actually has to do his job and make us a better team...although his job is apparently for us to expect less, so then he's doing a better job without actually having to do anything?

The guys a joke. Huge thanks to Håkan Andersson for giving us such a good team between 2006-10.

Mitch Callahan.

Blash loves the Mitch.

#2538442 Callahan, Ferraro and Porter placed on Waivers

Posted by uk_redwing on 05 October 2014 - 12:19 PM

Gonna be a sad day for me if Callahan gets claimed. I've followed his progress since the day he was drafted and have been waiting for the day that seemed inevitable in that he would get a regular spot on the Wings team. I think choosing someone based on a few incredibly crappy exhibition games is a flawed process, but what do I know. Not like Detroit has made mistakes in choosing it's roster in recent years  :sleepy:

At least we've got Cleary on the roster   That'll be worth it if Mitch gets claimed. Something to laugh at.

#2532564 Callahan and Nestrasil re-signed

Posted by uk_redwing on 19 July 2014 - 02:35 PM

You guys are seriously over rating him. He's projected as a 4th line agitator, not a second line scorer.

I said he was better than Cleary, who is projected as being nowhere in the NHL without his man-crushees.

A 4th line agitator/mini-Holmstrom>absolutely nothing. Callahan brings skills that this team has lacked for a while.

We'll lose him to waivers.

#2532180 Red Wings & the Media

Posted by uk_redwing on 15 July 2014 - 05:41 PM

He has a valid point about the damp rags that are the local media. MLive is the worst offender for being suck ups and not giving a critical word to anything.

He's right that the only local press that rightly tore apart the Cleary signing were the bloggers. The rest just posted PR bulls*** about how Cleary is better and how he can rebound.

Mitch Callahan > Dan Cleary. I hope this is reflected in next season's roster.

That is all.

#2531617 Who has been Ken Holland's worst recent free agent signing?

Posted by uk_redwing on 11 July 2014 - 03:24 PM

Dishonorable mention should also go to Cory Cross as a consideration.  16 games-2 points.  Benched and then traded.

He beat up Steve Ott though...

#2531569 McCollum signed.

He's a bit iffy at times, but a decent AHL backup. Doubt he'll ever be anything more than that though.

If I did as bad a job as Ken Holland over the last few years at my workplace I'd have been fired about seven times by now.

Remember, Kenny gets paid a hell of a lot of money to supposedly make this team better. What has he done to make it better since Lidstrom retired? What part of his actual job has he done besides sit on his hands and take the easy options time and time again? This team has SCRAPED into the playoffs for two seasons running and his response is to re-sign two of the worst players and give himself a pat on the back?

I've said it so many times over the years and I'll keep saying it in stronger terms with every ridiculous move he makes. Ken Holland is a fraud. Without Håkan Andersson he would have been found out years ago. This roster is his product, the Franzen contract will be his legacy, and it'll be a miracle if we keep the playoff streak alive with a weaker and somehow OLDER roster than before.

Bottom line: Holland has failed year after year to replace Lidstrom and Holmstrom. His signings in the last few years have been nothing short of laughable. There is loyalty to players but more importantly is loyalty to the fans to do his job and create the best roster in his power to compete for the Stanley Cup.

The complacency is infuriating.

As a moderator here, I'm just glad the Wings didn't announce the re-signing of Quincey and Cleary on the same day.

Remember when we all used to joke about them both re-signing like we thought it wasn't possible it could happen?

I feel like it's our fault. We made this happen. We joked too much...

Who else burst out laughing when they heard?

All Ken Holland has done this offseason is sign players for Grand Rapids...at least that's what we hope he's doing...

Really? This seemed like a thread worthy topic... Sad...

More worthy than the effort used to type your post...

I went for "A healthy Player X is our deadline acquisition" as we hear that one every year, even though every team has players returning from injury throughout the year so it means jack s***.

#2524428 Dan Cleary may return...sigh

Posted by uk_redwing on 18 June 2014 - 01:08 PM

Come on you guys... Emmerton and Tootoo are gone. Good chance that Grant and Evans are probably gone from GR, too. We need some vets down there. Leadership. Hoo-rah.

'Cause that's where Dan-o's going. GR, right? Right?

Doubt it. Both guys wear the A and are hugely respected in the GR organisation, especially Evans. There's no room for the Cleary donkey in the Grand Rapids inn. He will bring nothing to the team that it doesn't already have and with the veteran rotation Blashill would just bench him for most games and it would be plain sad.

Cleary was one of my favourite players back in like 2008. You watch clips of him from those years and it's like a completely different player.
