#2002326 Holland Looking to sign an Enforcer

Posted by uk_redwing on 22 June 2010 - 08:16 AM

And by the sounds of it, a heavyweight one at that:

Red Wings GM Ken Holland gave the Detroit News's Chris McCosky a roster update, and in doing so, he revealed that his one personnel goal during free agency involves adding someone who can drop the gloves when necessary:

"You'd like to bring in a Brad May or an Aaron Downey-type player, but if it's not there, it's not there," Holland said. "If we can't fit it in, we would go without it. It's just impossible to address every single need in a cap world."

If the Wings can't find a fourth-liner with bite, however, Holland suggests that the Wings have enough toughness to get the job done without a dedicated enforcer:

"We have some size on the back end, as well," Holland said. "We'd like an enforcer type, yes, but it has to be the right fit. We'll watch what moves are made over the next couple of months and see what shakes out."

Link Studies

I think this is more Mike Babcocks doing than Hollands, but its all good anyway!

#2002183 Taylor Pyatt Re-signs with Phoenix

One of the players I was calling to be signed last season instead of Jason Williams, along with Mike Comrie.

Why oh why did Kenny choose Williams?

You're all lucky bastards. I'll be watching on AHL lives next season as me and Drumnj will stream every game live like last season.

Even those that dont go to the games, you still get to watch for free whilst my wallet gets a pounding!

Players like Colton Orr, Riley Cote are pretty useless. If you can't play a regular shifts besides fighting you don't belong in the NHL.

And yet they're there and just last offseason Kenny tried to sign the very Colton Orr you're talking about. What does that tell you?

If he can play well besides fighting as well, then I've got nothing against it. Players who don't do anything else but fight are pretty useless nowadays.

So useless I could name you about 10 or 15 of them in the NHL off the top of my head. Not that Im going to, obviously.

Aaron Downey anyone?

Depends on the make up of the team.

Our team is basically set in stone. We're the losing 2009-2010 Red Wings with the addition of Hudler.

No we're not. There will be no Maltby. No Williams. No Lilja. No Lebda. Probably no Meech. There's going to be at least one and probably two more additions to the roster.

Do a ****? Excuse my British ignorance, is a **** a ****** or just an idiotic person? I can do a ******, but I'm not a big find of doing an idiotic person unless she is really blonde and has a nice set of fun bags.

**** = You

Do one = f*** off

The only problem with that (although i do completely agree) is there will be even more diving. A player gets hit to the head, goes down, then goes Ribero on the ice to draw the extra minutes.

If I didn't know your normal comments you make, someone would read this comment and assume you enjoy when people go after Kronwall after a clean hit because he "touched on of their players" and now it's time to get his face mashed.

f*** me. You know full well Im talking about cheapshots yet you go ahead and be a complete **** anyway like im going on about normal physical contact?

Not sure how much longer I can cope with this site.

If the players have respect for each others so that removing the instigator wouldn't lead to more stupid things happening, then why are they hitting each other in the heads in the first place? If they're hitting themselves to the head right now, I could see them as well just starting to fight someone even if the other guy wouldn't want to do it.

What? Removing the instigator isn't about "respect" its about "touch one of our guys and your gonna have your head punched into the ice."

Also, the last part of that made zero sense.

#2000666 Holland thinking of re-signing Kirk Maltby

Posted by uk_redwing on 17 June 2010 - 10:49 AM

Holland also is contemplating re-signing veteran Kirk Maltby.

One guy we have to make a decision on is Kirk Maltby, Holland said. I like Maltby. Hes been a warrior. I think hes got some hockey left in him.

Just what we need. <_< Seriously Kenny, enough with the God damn sentiments already!

#2000218 Wings sign Ilari Filppula 1yr/$500k

Not sure why I got minus-3 for that. He has a two-way contract, has never played North American hockey before and has agreed to play in Grand Rapids if need be. Don't get angry at me that that's where he'll spend his FIRST season in North America. Not my fault

Good signing for Grand Rapids at any rate.

He might add a little scoring depth to Grand Rapids' third line, but I'd be surprised if he accumulated more than 30 points, assuming he even makes the team.

But I'll be ready to eat my words if he wants to net 80.

#1999125 If Bertuzzi isnt re-signed...

Posted by uk_redwing on 13 June 2010 - 07:42 PM

I see some of the names being thrown out for 4th line guys and it's pretty ridiculous. You never pay more than 1 million for a 4th liner and I'm seeing guys like Asham and other players who would command 1.5 and more as a fourth liner. This isn't NHL the video game where you can turn the cap on or off.

Oh brilliant. Someone brings up the NHL video game for some original hilarity.

How in the hell is Asham going to command a salary TRIPLE to $1.5m? He'll be lucky to make a mil. You should read my earlier post about how Asham is 32, wasn't anywhere near his career best season and has had his salary decline over the past 3 seasons despite point production increasing.
