#2462508 Lines Thread

Posted by uk_redwing on 09 December 2013 - 01:09 PM

Sammy scratched

Don't agree with that but hey ho Cleary scored a goal so Babs has a reason to keep him in the line up for another month or so.

The forward lines are just so meh to look at and they play like they look.

#2460614 First Trimester Player Grades

Posted by uk_redwing on 04 December 2013 - 10:23 AM

Maybe we should make up a new grade called a "Dan Cleary" for players who were expected to be bad, but somehow were worse than anyone ever imagined but yet in an unsurprising and expected way.

Agree with most of the grades otherwise. I'd mark Andersson a C- as I think he's a bit of a plug. He's good at faceoffs and can PK but otherwise he offers little. I was surprised he got such a quick promotion from Grand Rapids originally, same as with Emmerton. I'd also mark Samuelsson lower. He is the only person to benefit from playing with Cleary as it makes him look better than he is. He's still an infuriatingly ineffective waste of cap space.

#2458996 Brendan Smith

I was never worried. Always like Smith. All rookies have an iffy period in their transition to the big leagues, especially Dmen (see Kindl, Ericsson).

One of the true "gritty" guys on our roster as well.

#2457918 The Dan Cleary Hate Zone

Somebody post a video of Cleary falling down with nobody around him

I was just thinking that. Oh man that was hilarious.

Someone make a gif. Please!

#2457652 Datsyuk concussion: To Return Tuesday

Posted by uk_redwing on 24 November 2013 - 01:52 PM

I doubt anyone on the ice or on the bench realized what happened in the moment. Would someone have gone after Cowen if they did? Maybe, maybe not.

Either way some people need to stop living in the past.

Since when did enforcing cheap shots become a thing of the past?

9/10 teams will protect and get retribution for their team-mates.

#2457551 Datsyuk concussion: To Return Tuesday

So if our power play is our enforcer and we can't score on the power play does that mean that we can stop saying that the PP is the enforcer? I don't want to read one post about revenge or bringing up Tootoo either. I want the Wings Holland wants on paper to finish out the season. It becomes obvious against teams like Ottawa, Toronto, and Boston that the Holland Euro-skill system will not work in the East over a full season. We need to get bigger, tougher, and less pretty. 1996-97 all over again.

Datsyuk and the Wings were tossed all over the ice all night. It was a shameful game in all facets. The PP made me want to kill a puppy. The diving was pathetic and we can't blame the refs for non-calls when we get that many powerplays.

My thoughts exactly, especially on the diving. We were nothing short of an embarrassment last night in every hockey sense. This hockey team is horrible. We can't win, can't defend ourselves...can't do anything except get points from OT losses.

I really, really hope this is a wake up call similar to the 1996/97 season.

#2457540 The Dan Cleary Hate Zone

Dan Cleary is currently costing us $483,000 a goal. That's the equivalent of Detroit handing Franzen a $14m a year contract.

Bargain.

It was only a matter of time before something like this happened. The Sens were running around without a care in the world last night.

#2456046 11/21 GDT: Hurricanes 3 at Red Wings 4

Posted by uk_redwing on 21 November 2013 - 03:23 PM

Babcock has done Cleary a huge favour by putting him on the first line. Obviously his hope is Pav can set up enough chances for Cleary he'll score an open net or something, maybe get an assist and then people can claim he's back at his best.

Hope is funny thing.

#2453618 Patrick Eaves on Waivers

All this for Dan Cleary and his 1 goal.

Just like the Sammy signing we all saw this coming. Literally every single one of us. It's insane.

#2451569 Tootoo Waived

Posted by uk_redwing on 07 November 2013 - 12:26 PM

Griffins will continue to be fun to watch.

#2451544 Tootoo Waived

Posted by uk_redwing on 07 November 2013 - 09:55 AM

I realise waiving Samuelsson won't provide any cap relief...but does anyone really care so long as he's gone?

I'd rather take his cap hit and have an empty space and use an emergency recall when needed.

#2451470 Tootoo Waived

Posted by uk_redwing on 06 November 2013 - 07:03 PM

Tootoo being waived whilst Samuelsson and Cleary remain on this team is a travesty.

A travesty made in the office of one Ken Holland.

#2444146 Monday 1 PM start time?

I see the NHL finally got my letter about me having to stay up late to watch games.

Cheers Gary.

#2441299 Steve Yzerman wants Game Misconduct penalties for fighting

Posted by uk_redwing on 03 October 2013 - 09:22 AM

If you take out fighting because it's dangerous soon you remove hitting, soon you make the puck lighter and soon you make the blades blunter and on it goes...Ice hockey is not a safe sport. It's played on ice for f***s sake. It'll never be safe. The topic of getting rid of fighting is boring and pointless. There are many far more dangerous aspects of the sport.

The players want it. Most of the fans want it. People who don't watch the sport and the media make a fuss because they're bored. f*** them all.
