#2293264 Detroit-Nashville: Babcock is loosing coach battle

Maybe he should tighten it instead.

Grr, I signed in literally just to post that exact sentence.

:( I missed my chance to be hilarious.

#2292962 Is Babcock watching the same game?

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's playing mind games.

#2258351 Yzerman asks Pavel Kubina to Provide list of teams

Don't know what's wrong with Commodore, personally.

Apart from Babcock of course. Kindl's done nothing to take the regular 3rd pairing spot. *insert angry rant etc. cba*

Would have preferred Commodore over Kindl.

#2244160 are we done giving conklin chances?

Why don't some people have the ability to think?

#2243965 Cherry rips Holland

Posted by uk_redwing on 10 January 2012 - 07:49 PM

So you found two youtube clips and now Maltby is a "wrecking ball"?  And I'm out of touch?  Pretty sure Maltby was an annoying, in your face, pestering type defensive forward...that...or a "total wrecking ball" dude!  Look, I'm as big of a homer as anybody here, but to suggest that Maltby and Drapes were much (or any) more physical than Miller and Eaves is kind of a stretch.  I find it humorous that in the quest to justify the myth that finesse teams can't cups, Maltby is turned into a "wrecking ball", Miller and Eaves become soft little ******* who don't finish checks, block shots, or kill penalties worth a damn, and guys like Downey, May, and Drake become contributing He-men.  But just for fun's sake...

here's Eaves destroying a guy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnuPWBiAyqM
here's Eaves destroying a guy and then fighting 15 seconds later...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wW1QRqBLLc
here's Eaves blocking a shot and crawling off the ice to avoid a stoppage in play...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQGT1fVgd_I
here's Eaves destroying another guy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otKFZjSHCg8
here's Eaves fighting another guy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=um7KGKmFf8Q
here's Eaves destroying another guy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgQ_CcEfYg8
here's Eaves destroying another guy...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otuHLZHATdM

Holy s*** dude, by your rationale Eaves should be considered, at the very least, a "wrecking ball" and at most the greatest physical presence the league has ever know.  Should I spend five seconds on youtube finding Miller lighting people up too, or can you inwardly recognize that a) Miller and Eaves are as physical as Maltby and Draper, b) none of the four of them were "wrecking balls" and didn't really need to be to play an effective game?

I guess the big difference is that after the Maltby hits in your videos there was a scrum (no fights) and then the Wings returned to the bench, while after the Eaves hits in my videos there were scrums (no fights) and the Wings returned to the bench.  Man is this year's team soft.

Do you not realise the difference in the amount of video clips online from the last few years (Eaves) and over a decade ago (prime Maltby)?

Especially with your posting attitude. Amount of clips on Youtube, given the different era's, is not a viable argument.

#2242708 Cherry rips Holland

Posted by uk_redwing on 08 January 2012 - 05:18 PM

Maybe the best post in the thread. Not a hard thing to accomplish, but still.

Another funny thing is how people have used the Wings bad luck with injuries the last few years as proof we need an enforcer. Well, what about this year? Why are we so healthy without an enforcer? Everyone should be taking runs constantly at this soft and defenseless team.

Apart from "we are so healthy" being a stupid thing to say half way through the season, stopping players taking runs at players is only one plus of having some bangers/fighters. What about creating energy when a team is down? Wearing the other team down on the grind? Allowing players to play and feel protected? Not to mention providing fantastic entertainment and creating tasty rivalries?

Eh? Also the post you quoted as the best post wasn't very good either. Trying to call the 96-97 Avs-Wings brawling team soft is af****** joke if you ask me. They only had McCarty, Pushor, Lapointe, Shanahan and JOEY KOCUR.

What a bunch of cup winning softies.

It's too bad that this is what enforcer debates have been reduced to: ripping the posters who oppose your viewpoints instead of actually entering reasonable discourse.  On both sides.

Don't want to get involved with this debate, but f*** me you're one to talk! All you ever seem to do these days is belittle other members who have different opinions to you.

I agree with Cherry, but he's is a rambling idiot and no-one will ever listen to him because he's usually wrong.

#2240900 Philippe Dupuis - Waived by the Leafs

Posted by uk_redwing on 02 January 2012 - 11:19 PM

Dupuis deserves special mention/recognition because he's played 30 games as a Leafs' forward this season and racked up 0 goals and 0 assists in that time. It's not because he's some sort of goon either (he doesn't fight...at all), he's just managed to avoid any sort of offensive contribution all season long...

In fact, he hasn’t been on the ice for a 5-on-5 goal for in roughly 240 minutes of even strength ice time.

I think that's impressive. Wouldn't you just hate to learn you were on his line?

#2240174 Kopecky Suckerpunches Del Zotto

Posted by uk_redwing on 31 December 2011 - 11:05 AM

If you're going to battle right in front of the net, you're gonna get cross checked. That's hockey. It may not be Red Wings hockey which obviously shocks a few people here, but it's the standard way of clearing the crease.

Suckerpunching a guy is classless. If you're mad, drop the gloves and fight, don't blindside a guy.

Good on Rupp for making Kopecky cower in an actual fight.

#2238316 Jimmy Howard - "I’m just sick and tired of getting run over.

Posted by uk_redwing on 22 December 2011 - 12:56 PM

As discussed before, an enforcer does usually make everyone play a little bit tougher and might inspire everyone to stick up for their teammates/selfs more often and give them all a testosterone kick up the backside. Tatar has dropped the gloves twice this season sticking up for himself. If little Tatar can with the AHL bullies, why can't all our big strong players? In Grand Rapids if anyone touches the goalie he gets an absolute beat down, usually by Exelby or Smith.

There's a rumour going around that we're actively looking for a tough guy, from hockeyfights.com. It's probably true, last time there was that rumour we tried to sign Colton Orr, failed and signed Brad May instead.

Colton Orr is available, I believe.

#2235161 Mike Commodore

Posted by uk_redwing on 12 December 2011 - 10:15 PM

I feel bad for Commodore. He's never really had a chance due to his preseason injury coupled with never playing more than the odd game so far. Unless there's an injury on defence it doesn't seem like he's gonna play.

What's the plan then? Waive him? Minors? Conditioning stint?

Personally, I'd like to throw the idea out of rotating him in as a 4th line forward every now and then. Get him to use his size, bang some bodies and crash the net. It might not be ideal, but it'll at least help get him into game shape so he's able to play some games on D if needed. Rotating him with Miller/Emmerton/Connor until Mursak returns would be a possible solution.

Just think it's a shame seeing him as a healthy scratch every game without getting a proper chance. I think if he was waived someone would claim him. Detroit wasn't the only offer he had in the offseason. Just seems a waste.

#2234039 Jonathan Ericsson Watch Thread

Posted by uk_redwing on 07 December 2011 - 11:14 PM

I thought Ericsson had a couple dumb moments in last night's game against the Blues but I don't see how everyone is still so down on this guy.  I'm not saying he is worth his paycheck but I do think he has played a lot better this season than last.

I agree, actually. It's not like he's eating up loads of salary and we're close to the cap. He's made the odd mistake, but so has everyone else this year. Especially on D.

I wouldn't be getting mad at him for costing the odd goal every now and then, I'd get mad at the Bertuzzi's, Hudler's, Abdelkader's and Zetterberg's for having an impressive 11 goals combined between them in 97 combined games played.

I'm also not that high on Emmerton and his offensive contributions, but as 4th liner rookie I'll let it slide for now.

Some good old fashioned hockey right there.

#2234031 Kronwall and Stuart may be hitting a lot less now

I'm enjoying watching jollymania making an arse of himself.

Still carrying my name around in his sig like a prize joker. Doesn't know two things about hockey.
