That screen by Kronwall on the first Montreal goal last night was a prime example of "either block it or get the hell out of the way." I think if Jimmy had been able to see that shot clearly it wouldn't have gone in.
IMO, this will make the Sabres a worse team this year than before the trade...
...which is exactly what they want. They want to win the race to the bottom to better their chances at McDavid.
They pretty much would have done that without the trade. It just doesn't really make sense from their perspective, especially giving up that late 1st rounder in what is supposed to be the deepest draft class in years. Without that pick the trade is only slightly lopsided in Winnipeg's favor, but man does it ever seem like overpayment on Buffalo's part...
All I know is that I don't want to see the Oilers end up with Connor McDavid. As the most hyped prospect since Crosby, I'd actually like to see this kid get a shot at becoming a star player on a team that's actually trying to rebuild instead of languishing in Edmonton and wasting the first 3 years of his career.
A team in Las Vegas would quickly turn into another Arizona Coyotes situation. Their ECHL team, the Wranglers, even voluntarily suspended operations for this season because they were essentially kicked out of their arena (not necessarily for attendance issues, but still). I would much rather see Seattle or Quebec City get a team if the league insists on another expansion.
I've seen this on several rumor sites, but nothing from known credible sources yet. It's another case of "oh, this guy was once known for his offense and the Red Wings need a puckmover so... 1 + 1 =" kind of situation. He might be able to find his game again in this system but I'd rather let one of the kids play unless MDZ comes as a 7th d-man and we trade Kindl.
Would be great if the Wings can sign him. I don't know why anyone thinks we would also get Niskanen. There just isn't cap space and I'm sure one or the other will take an offer that isn't reasonable for the Wings.
Please see my response in the Cleary thread....sum it up: Holland is stupid, needs to be fired and has done NOTHING to help this team since he let Hossa go. His allegiance to these useless hockey players is sickening and it makes fans shake their heads...I sure hope he gets that ever important "future considerations" on trade day so he can use the damn buyout on a contract worth buying out. Franzen. But we all know, even if Holland is able to trade Tootoo, he will just let the buyout expire.
If I'm not mistaken, Holland did offer Hossa a contract before he re-signed Franzen but Hossa opted for more money and left for Chicago. It's not like Franzen ruined the opportunity to keep Hossa.
Buying out Tootoo doesn't really make a whole lot of sense to fans, but it's the last time Holland can use a compliance buyout and Tootoo certainly won't be playing with the Wings under Babcock, so why waste $1.9 mil in space and a roster spot in GR?
