#2488901 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 03 March 2014 - 06:37 PM

Ehrhoff would be alright with me, as he would provide some more offense (or, at least, be able to make passes out of the D zone).  I just don't think he's the best long-term solution for this team.  This is a year where I'd actually be okay with Kenny not doing anything at the deadline.  Wait until the draft or start of free agency and see who's available.

Why is everyone so eager to trade Helm?  He is exactly the kind of player the Wings need playing in the bottom six when/if most of the lineup is healthy.  Trading a guy like Helm for temporary help up the middle just leaves the team vulnerable on the PK and creates a hole for the 3rd and 4th lines.  I think he remains untouchable.

I don't see Holland including Helm in any kind of trade.  This team doesn't really have anyone to replace his role and even if they got something similar back as part of a trade it's still hard to replace his speed.  He has been plagued with injury problems but so was Kronwall for a good portion of the beginning of his NHL career and now he's been healthy for the most part.  Personally, I would just stick with the forward group they have out there and hope that Zetterberg can make it back in time for the playoffs (assuming they make it in).  A 3/4 defenseman is the most pressing need and I agree with everyone saying to pursue MacDonald from the Isles, if the price isn't too steep.

#2477237 Whom to blame for this goal? A referee or the goalie?

Feel bad for the goalie, but with the game on the line why are you in the corner, chatting with fans?  There's staying loose and then there's just not having your head in the game.  What's being overlooked here is the very smart play by the winning team.

Nice save, but if the Flyers' player gets off a real shot there then that goes in the back of the net.

I think the Wings' front office just wants to get a look at as many prospects as it can at the NHL level. It's not really anything against Sproul.

Van Riemsdyk's dad reminds me of Eugene Levy.

#2467571 Maybe the weirdest OT winner you'll ever see

If that's the Wings scoring that goal, I guarantee it gets waived off with "intent to blow."

Or Holmstrom was too close to Smith.  Somehow, Holmstrom would be involved.

This is exactly why Tootoo needs to be up with this team.

#2462463 Shawn Thornton attacks Orpik (leaves game on stretcher)

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 09 December 2013 - 07:15 AM

In a way, I'm kind of glad that Thornton went after Orpik like that.  The Penguins get away with far too many dirty plays that sometimes cause serious injuries.  Thornton went too far with the repeated blows to the head after Orpik went down, but message sent.  No one likes to see anyone get hurt like that, though.

Neal should get the same suspension because his knee to the head was just flat out disgusting and targeting a player who was already down as well.

#2450722 Nyquist taking things in stride, with class

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 04 November 2013 - 11:46 AM

My only Hesitation is Jurco is benefiting from Nyquist being boss and feeding him.

Wouldn't it stand to reason that Jurco would have an equally talented (if not Nyquist) player doing the same for him in the NHL?

I think he has the skill to become a Datsyuk Lite but he definitely needs to work on his skating and positioning.

#2447085 Ericsson out 2-3 weeks

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 22 October 2013 - 01:14 PM

Ericsson will be missed, but is anyone else just absolutely blown away by DeKeyser right now?  The kid hasn't even played half of an NHL season and looks like a top-pairing guy already.  What an incredible signing.

Haha, Is it wrong that I never get tired of seeing bad things happening to Luongo?

I don't know, I kind of feel bad for the guy.  He has a great sense of humor and has put up with a lot in terms of Vancouver management.  He's still a good goalie (not really "elite" anymore) but his contract and playing for a Canadian team have really put him in a rough spot.

Can you imagine a PK pairing of Glendening and Helm?  That would be dangerous.

#2443567 Mantha signed to ELC

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 12 October 2013 - 03:54 PM

I look at Mantha as Franzen's replacement, but with way more potential.  Hopefully he can make the transition to the AHL when he turns 20 and get on the fast track to the Wings.  Happy about this signing, even though it was pretty much expected.
