#2367735 Time to sit Ian White

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 11 March 2013 - 08:48 AM

White would probably do better on a team that's all about offense first, but for what he brings, he really just doesn't fit on this team.

I'd rather see the Wings play several shutdown guys who make the simple play than have him out there getting beat along the wall and throwing errant passes up the middle.

At this point, just swap Cleary and Tatar.  I want to see what Dats can do with someone on his line who can handle a puck...

He's doing a fine job and having him with Ericsson has been a decent top pairing for this season.  He may not be a PP quarterback like Lids but I've noticed he's able to get shots through for rebounds that often lead to goals.

Well, Franzen looks pretty useless.  Can't hit and refuses to skate.  Awesome...

Didn't take long for the first Crosby dive of the season.

#2326999 New Commissioner?

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 27 August 2012 - 02:57 PM

Experience and business sense aside, there are very few fans who actually respect Gary Bettman and want him to represent the sport of hockey to die-hard and casual fans in North America.

The expansion (in terms of revenue) has been a failure, specifically for the Southern franchises and this whole shady deal with NBC, should there be a labor stoppage, shows Bettman's true colors.

Unfortunately, the decision of whether or not to replace Bettman is up to the Board of Governors, and as long as the larger market teams are satisfied then there will be a majority vote to keep him.

#2319206 Six teams on Nash's trade "list", none Canadian

Man I hope so, I have nothing but respect for Nash.

Where I live, usually the only guaranteed time I can watch the Wings play is on Fox Sports Ohio when they play the Blue Jackets. So needless to say I've watched Rick Nash play quite a bit, and anytime the Wings lose to the Jackets he is responsible.

You also get to hear Jeff Rimer clip the volume on his mic every time Nash does something positive.

Columbus wants 2 NHL ready forwards for Nash....Franzine I think would qualify as more than NHL "ready." Mursak and Tatar are BOTH NHL ready...add the 1st round to sweetin the pot because we are within the Central....

That's all assuming that Howson would accept that offer. I think Franzen is the only piece of that trade that CBJ would want from the Wings. One (arguably) bad contract for another. The rest is well... surely one of those 5 other teams can and will do better than Tatar and Mursak. Plus, Holland can't keep giving up these 1st round picks. I've never seen anything from Nash to make me believe that he's more than a one-dimensional, somewhat selfish forward.

#2314710 Ryan Suter agrees to 13-year, $98-mil deal with Wild

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 04 July 2012 - 12:45 PM

Just look at Minny's roster and explain to me how that looked more attractive than Detroit to either player. Other than Suter they have no one on D worth mentioning. Half of the forwards are guys who can hit but don't do much else. It's really telling how much these guys only cared about playing together and getting huge contracts from their "home" team.

I, for one, care far more about trying to get Weber either this season or next and watching Smith develop into a top four defenseman. Sure, the Wings will probably struggle a bit this year without the same solid backend that we're used to, but in the end, the team will have a brighter future than the Wild.

#2312870 Red Wings Sign Jordin Tootoo to 3-yr deal, $1.9M/yr

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 02 July 2012 - 12:51 PM

And? That's Tootoo career high so far and his second highest was 18 points. Helm has already hit 32 points in a year and his lowest so far in a full season was 24 points. Again, Helm says hi!!

So why can't Helm and Tootoo play on the same line and be even more productive? It's fairly clear that you don't like Tootoo, but give the guy a chance. He wasn't signed to put up points.

On a side note, I wonder if Tootoo will be allowed to wear Lebda's #22. Can't imagine he'd live up to the legacy.

Going to the Tigers - Reds game tonight at GABP so hopefully I'll be back in time to catch the puck drop. I'll say the Kings will finish this off and become the new Stanley Cup Champions.

#2305133 Vokoun moved to Pittsburgh for a 7th Round pick.

Good move for PIT. I guess Vokoun will have to play the backup role after all.

Very inconsistent reffing in these Finals so far. But hey, that's what we've come to expect from the NHL...

Kind of funny that there could be a coaching rematch of the '04 Finals, albeit with different teams.

#2302379 A general, how I would build a team

Posted by Wings_Toledo on 21 May 2012 - 06:37 AM

How do you build a successful NHL team you ask? It's simple. I don't get why people think Ken Holland's so smart??

1mil, 1mil

...THAT's how you structure a 70 million dollar salary cap in today's NHL. There are 11 players that you give about 5mil to (and three of them you could give 6mil to) - your top six forwards, your top four defensemen and your goalie. I don't care if you draft and develop them, if you trade for them, or if you sign them. You get them. That's where you need your elite talent.

...As for the rest of the guys, your bottom six forwards, your bottom pairing defenseman, your backup goalie, and your healthy scratches. None of these guys should be making more than 1mil a season. Most of them should be cheap, young, big, strong, fast, tough, hard-working ready-to-play draft picks that you make. They don't need to be able to score. They just need to be those things. And you can find those things anywhere in the draft if you're looking for them. If one of the guy's blows up and is in line for a big contract...you let him walk...and you call up the next guy.

Simple as that.

I'm shocked that no one has picked up on the sarcasm of this post.
