#2443478 Tomas Hertl

Posted by Pskov Wings Fan on 11 October 2013 - 11:24 PM

Anyway... about Adam's comments about Hertl...

The shot itself was crazy-good.  I have no problem with that.  He is right that if you do something that amazing when the score is that lopsided, and then celebrate like you scored the GWG with 3.2 left on the clock, people are going to get pissy.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't score fancy goals in lopsided games, but if you're a kid who comes in and does it, you're going to put more than a few people in the mindset of "That kid needs to be knocked down a peg or two".  It doesn't matter if that's the right reaction or not; it's the one that is going to happen.

Hertl's a kid.  He just did something that few people ever do.  Of course he was excited.  The question is whether this was the One Hot Game in his life or if it was a harbinger of things to come.

Is he going to be the Next Great One?  I doubt it, but stranger things have happened in life.  With all of the media attention he's getting now, he's going to need to keep a clear head so that he doesn't either get too big for his britches or get overwhelmed by it.

As far as celebrating goes, hockey players already celebrate- there are big, smelly group hugs and the Line-o-fistbumps.  Sure a guy may get excited and jump in the air or crash the boards.  There's nothing wrong with that.  Just spare me from the NFL guys doing whatever it is that looks like drunken birds with lordosis trying to cross a busy highway.

For those reasons, I agree with Oates that McClellan did the right thing in reining him in after the 4th goal.

I do not recall anything special about his celebration. Given that he scored 4 goals in one game it was rather tame.

And Oates got OV on his team who likes to jump into the glass after his goals.

The players for the most part are fine with the goal, which was really sick but they aren't fine with the celebration afterwards, which I can understand. Great goal, unreal night but tune down the over the top celebrations they aren't well received in hockey.

If Rangers do not like opposing team's goal celebrations then maybe they should consider not allowing them to score. If they can't then shut up and go cry quietly on the bench. I never understood this "not rubbing it in" crap. These are both NHL teams with similar payrolls. It is not like Sharks ran over Pee Wee team while laughing at the kids.

Listened to the players comments about this goal on TSN. I am with Luongo on this one.

#2426222 Grabovski Bought Out

At least we know we are interested in Grabovski. I would love to get him!

I am not sure what is the basis for the article stating that Grabovski got a "volatile personality". If it is only because of his words about Carlyle (and only after he was no longer with the team) then I would not give it a second thought.

He is a fast skater. I think more speed would be nice for Detroit.

Drawing in sufficient oxygen with a full glass cage on may also present a problem.

Not with that oxygen tank on your back. Just make them all astronauts.

#2397054 Ottawa - Montreal 5 on 5 fight

After Ottawa got up 4-1 they had a full 5 on 5 fight. Simply awesome.

10 fighting majors at 7:04 in 3rd.

Most of the times I see Wild power play it very much looks like they just do not know what to do.

So is Konopka in the lineup for offense or defense?

esteef

Why, both of course. Left fist for defense, right for offense.

Screw the emotion. Getzlaf, Perry and Selanne left Ducks without their best goal scorers when they were needed the most.

Abdelkader should be told that when Datsyuk is your center your are not there to think. Dig the puck, give it to Pavel, make yourself open and wait for it.

#2349318 Nail Yakupov Goal Celebration.

Posted by Pskov Wings Fan on 31 January 2013 - 12:41 AM

So....how about what just happened in Pheonix?  Nail got the OT winner, he batted it in again...Morris was going after him but threw blows at Whitney instead.  He didn't have a crazy celebration, I didn't think, it was Doan-esque actually.  I don't know, I am kind of starting to get that selfish vibe from him though.  He's basking in this light.  You could even tell his teammates didn't want to join in on it, Hall looked reluctant.

So players on opposing teams do not like when Yakupov scores on them and celebrates. Well, this is too bad. Pleasing Phoenix Coyotes is really not his job. The kid is 18. I think it will be rather sad if all the negative attention would make him to follow the "code". I hope he is strong enough to ignore all of it and do as he feels like.

Parise worth every penny. Suter on the other hand so far has not been good. Not a disaster but so far nothing to pay $100M for.

Finesse hockey isn't really what's winning today.  But I'm going to try and reserve judgement until after a few more games.

Finesse hockey may or may not be winning today. But it has nothing to do with Wings play yesterday. I do not recall seeing any finesse from Detroit players,

#2338965 Kovalchuk says he may stay in KHL

Posted by Pskov Wings Fan on 10 January 2013 - 01:09 AM

except these players are being paid millions to play a game that most would play for free. such torture

Most of us play for free because nobody would pay money to see us play. If anything, professional athletes earn their money in rather transparent manner compared to other occupations, which pull similar incomes. They get paid because people pay to see them play.

Point taken, however if you look at most professional sports leagues (or maybe all of them) there is some sort of revenue sharing agreement. The fact that some teams lose money does not mean the league as a whole is unstable. One could easily say the same thing about the MLB where the league is doing just fine, but A LOT of teams lose money.

I do not disagree on revenue sharing. Rich teams do need opponents to generate their large revenues so they might as well share the proceeds. And fans probably do want to see their team beat up on poor southern cousins once in a while.
