#2560568 Time for Teemu?

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 04 January 2015 - 04:23 AM

Some may interpret this thread as a knee jerk reaction, but consider what our big turn around was last season. It took a plague of injuries to see what Nyquist, Sheahan, Tatar, Jurco could bring to the table and now they are ALL on the roster because of their performance.

Give the kids a shot, why not? It may be the push they need back in the right direction of a successful start to the season. I don't see it hurting anything, they can't show off what they got if they don't get the opportunity.

I'm not opposed to a Teemu appearance. Kindl can take off also in favor of XO.

#2560318 Winter Classic lowest rating ever (2,3)

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 03 January 2015 - 02:20 PM

I think last year especially, the outdoor games got entirely overdone and it lost that "special occasion" appeal.

If it were up to me, i'd do it in rotation with the Olympics. One Winter Classic game for 3 years, take a year off for the Winter Olympics. 3 Winter Classic games total every 4 years, no Stadium Series, no other events. Keep it limited and maintain the feel of it being an important event.

That's just how I feel about it.

Will update with graphics and information in the afternoon after work when the lines and starting goalies are more clear.

Let's keep building off that last win in OT against the Sens.

#2559052 Happy Holidays To All My Fellow LGW'rs!

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 25 December 2014 - 05:16 AM

Temporarily going to move this to the General Discussion area of the forum.

Happy Holidays to all of you at LGW, the posters that made either Santa's good or bad list (oh what a list I could make), those onlookers that lurk the forums that never post, my fellow moderation staff that put in all the time, dedication, and work into keeping this place stable, to all your families and friends, and to Matt, the man who makes LGW possible.

May your holidays and new year be full of Red Wings wins, a shootout win or two, bad sweaters, egg nog, etc. This is by far my favorite community on the internet and i'm thankful that I can be a part of it.

Be safe and good to each other.

Get this topic back on track, take your debate to PM if you can't keep it under control on the public boards. I already had to edit out parts of this, continued insults back and forth to each other will not end well for either of you. Thanks.

#2555761 Jimmy sucks in a shootout Howard

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 11 December 2014 - 05:21 AM

I've always wondered if you could track down the Guiness Book of World Records fattest man, strap some pads on him, and just literally plug up the entire net with him. Is there a rule in the NHL rule book about this? Are there weight parameters that say "If the goalie is large enough that there is no longer an opening to the net, he cannot play in the NHL?". It surely would solve our shootout issues if there was no entrance to the net at all.

If we can keep this thread respectful and on point about Howard's performance in shootouts, and his percentages indeed being among the lowest, it may continue. Let's keep it friendly, it is the holiday season after all.

Strongly considering banning Jimmyemeryhunter for posting something so offensive on the forums. That video is clearly a violation of some rule and I want that minute of my life back. (Yes. I made it a minute).

#2555040 Honest question for everyone.

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 09 December 2014 - 04:56 AM

Just when I think I have it all down, I know it all, I can make bold predictions that come true, I take Jonathan Cheechoo in the 2nd round of my fantasy hockey draft and finish in dead last place.

There is a fact in that amusing (and true) statement, that even as incredible as one player can look for one or two week, up to two full seasons, there is always the chance that they flop, fall off, stop producing, lose that "spark" to the point where I am not only very reserved on my predictions and statements about players, I only find comfort in those like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom that have proven time and time again for most of their career that they just have it.

On LGW here, we see many sides of a lot of fans, those who still aren't convinced about a lot of our players, to those who debated and argued for a year about Brunner and Clarkson being on this team or not, just to see them inevitably flop hard and become terrible acquisitions for the teams they signed with. Yet a lot were tooth and nail convinced they were the answer, Clarkson after one good season was worth 5 million to bring in here and take the place of some of the youth that eventually came up like Nyquist and Tatar. If you look on it now, which I can safely say 30% of the LGW community wanted us to have Brunner and Clarkson right now, what position would we be in if both were signed to 4-5 year conctracts keeping Nyquist and Tatar in the minors?

But the fact is, no one knows what the future will bring. We make predictions on our observations as fans, sometimes they are right, a lot of times they are wrong. It's part of the spine that makes a forum posting sports fan thrive, it sparks our conversations and debates, disagreements and arguments. We like to act like we know everything, that management is moronic and we could run the team better than the real higher ups do, but at the end of the day we are just passionate fans with strong opinions on the team that we dedicate a portion of our life watching, loving, and talking about who are more often wrong than we care to admit.

I'd tell that Mabus mod how awesome he was and bask in his greatness for the full 24 hours.

#2554773 Tomas Tatar Appreciation Thread

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 08 December 2014 - 04:35 AM

Let's get back on track here and stick with the topic, which is the Tatar appreciation thread, not the Weiss debate thread.

I didn't honestly expect this kind of start out of Tatar, I think a lot of us were focused on Nyquist emerging as the young goal scorer this season, but it's been a pleasant surprise to see Tatar scoring out there as much as he has been. I hope it keeps up and he stays consistent, and it's been exciting to watch this far.

#2554489 12/7 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Hurricanes 1

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 07 December 2014 - 02:09 AM

GDT looks fantastic.

2 more points to be had, let's snag them up and keep this great start to the season rolling.

I've been thrilled with the resilience this team has shown, the ability to come back and hold leads in tight games, kill off important PK situations and secure these much needed wins and points early on.

With Weiss playing as well as he has, Howard's strong play, and the kids stepping it up, there truly is a strong balance out there that is capable of competing every night. It's an exciting season so far to be a Wings fan.

Keep it up boys, LGW!

Updated original post, sorry for the lack of a normal GDT, work life calls. Did my best to put out the general information with lines, starting goalies, and game time.
