#2505809 Riley Sheahan - Underappreciated and Overshadowed?

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 04 April 2014 - 04:35 PM

I don't want to overstep here and go overboard, but I can see him in the future playing the same role Larionov did. He has the passing skills already, numerous times a game you look at a play he makes and think "What a pass by Sheahan there". He's capable of being among the better playmaking 2nd line centers in the league, might drop a few 50 assist seasons down the line. Who knows, but right now, first year, thrown into this situation not even anticipating playing for the Wings for a few years, he has impressed me and is a valuable piece to our current run.

Datsyuk returns tonight!! Welcome back Pav!

Buffalo is down their first two goaltenders, along with Stewart and Myers. Their lineup looks pretty awful, and we have our best Center back in. If we can't beat Buffalo tonight there is something seriously wrong, this should be an easy two points for us.

Detroit wins 7-2, Glendening scores his first (ha!), Nyquist does something amazing, Pav shows us why he was missed so much.

GO WINGS GO!!

This team, wow. They had no business winning tonight and they have no business being in a playoff spot, but they continue to do the improbable. What a job by Babs and his coaching staff to keep this group competing through everything that has gone against them.

I can't really add anything else about the kids that hasn't already been said. Never thought I would have so much fun watching the Red Wings play without Z and Pavel.

Jimmy stole this game, though. The Bruins dominated the first 40 minutes. Jimmy kept the Wings in it and then the kids did their thing. Felt like a playoff game at the end -- I was a nervous wreck in the last couple minutes. Nice to have a little practice before the real deal, which is even more likely after those two points tonight.

What a game! I'm glad that fanboy Edzo had to sit and watch the Red Wings win too.

You know he was sitting up there pouting, getting a back rub and eating a big slice of cake on a paper plate to feed his depression.

Probably my favorite game this season. Every single odd was in Boston's favor toward the middle of the 3rd. If we took it to Vegas we'd be millionaires.

Unbelievable and stunning win, i'm so amped up right now.

Jimmy stole us this game, Nyquist was the hero once again, two ENORMOUS points against one of the best teams in the NHL. Two of the next three games are against Buffalo.

The hockey gods are smiling on us, maintain and make it 23 straight. I'm so proud of the performance tonight. Unbelievable game.

All these injuries have been a blessing in disguise, imagine if we were healthy for most of this season and Nyquist only got 6-7 games all season? Sheahan and Jurco never come up?

I feel a hell of a lot better right now about this team's future than I did at the beginning of the season.

Unbelievable, i'm stunned by what just happened after such a dismal last 50 minutes.

If there's one thing I miss about ESPN covering hockey, it was the guys involved with calling the games. Thorne, Clement, Pang > anything NBCSN puts on television. It didn't make me want to switch channels during intermission.

Howard is stealing this game for us right now, must put up a goal or at least survive until OT.

Love that effort out of Glendening, little bit of push creates great chances.

Uhh, then the pinch wasn't worth it.

Smith's pinch 100% led to Nyquist's penalty, which then resulted in them scoring (right as the PP was expiring). Don't be such a homer.

Oh alright, so Smith making the decision to try and make something happen offensively after all of 1 minute of time on attack all game resulting in Nyquist to drop back and play D, which is his job when his defender jumps up in his place, forced Nyquist to hold his player instead of defending him and take a 2 minute penalty. Not during the penalty kill, but shortly after when the game was even strength, Boychuk, who Smith was not responsible for covering, nor was he even on the ice, blasts a heavy slapper through a screen to score. 5 Wings were in the defensive zone and in position as it happened.

You are completely right, 100% Smith's fault. He should be a healthy scratch next game.  :sleepy:

ONCE AGAIN, Smith's pinching fs us.

Smith wasn't on the ice. If you are referring to Nyquist's penalty, Boston's goal was scored even strength. There's a difference between blaming someone for making a mistake and trying your hardest to pin the blame on someone that had nothing to do with the goal scored just because you have a personal grudge.

Smith had nothing to do with us being down 1-0.
