#2522454 2014 SCF : (2) The Big Apple vs. (3) Hollywood

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 02 June 2014 - 03:11 AM

LA overcame a 3-0 deficit, and knocked out the powerhouse Blackhawks to get here. The Rangers had to battle through Dustin Tokarski to get to the cup final. I firmly believe that it's a LA/Montreal cup final is Price is healthy for that series.

LA wins in 5. They have already climbed over the two largest obstacles they are going to face in this years playoffs.

#2521840 J-S Giguere to announce retirement

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 27 May 2014 - 01:54 AM

I'm not a fan, was never a fan. That usually means they did something to significantly damage us with their skill in the past. Glad to see you go Giguere, but at the same time, part of me was glad to witness parts of your career.

Great accomplishment, here's hoping for a bright future wearing the winged wheel.

#2521221 So we've got a pretty good system...

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 19 May 2014 - 09:11 PM

I'm not sure how I feel about Sheahan being top 5 and Sproul nowhere on the list.

Still, this previous season proved just how much talent we have waiting to emerge, a lot of these guys we wouldn't have even seen had it not been for chronic injuries.

The future is bright, I hope it comes sooner than later.

#2520507 A cap/salary question for you all.

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 14 May 2014 - 09:49 PM

Oh the joys of the offseason at LGW.

No way do I ever see locking up any player at that cap hit a good idea unless he is the literal second coming of Wayne Gretzky and provides the offense of 3 top line players combined scoring over 200 points per season. Who knows what happens when players figure out how to defend against him better, and if he is selfish enough to command maximum contract he is likely the same class of player who will drop off in production after getting that contract. Look at the quality of player we get out of Datsyuk for the price, pay nearly double? No thanks.

Please be aware of the subject manner of what you are posting and where it belongs on the forums. Trade rumors, speculations, discussion about players that may be traded or anything involving potential transactions belongs in the "Trade Rumor & Free Agent Talk" section of the forums. We have been moving a lot of posts lately and with offseason upcoming the rumors will continue to build and emerge, we want to keep the boards as organized and tight as possible. Thanks.

Howard's Heart = Above Average

#2519637 So what do we have to trade?

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 07 May 2014 - 03:47 PM

Ship off Howard, bring in Miller, give it 40 games next season before the "Miller = Average" thread goes up. He's aging, he isn't what he used to be. He wasn't that good in the playoffs this year, his numbers leave something to be desired. He'd come here, play about on par, maybe slightly better than Howard, but people will realize how much more of an impact the defense makes (if it is not much improved) over the quality of the goaltender. I think a lot of people cling onto how he was 5 years ago, the kind of goalie he was in the Olympics, the NHL superstar goalie, that isn't the Miller we'd be overpaying for and i'd rather see the money go into a better defenseman over a very mild upgrade over Howard for a much bigger contract.

It's honestly just my opinion, i've been wrong before, we all have at one point, but I think the focus is solely defense first and maybe one quality winger.

#2519396 NHL 15 Getting New Commentators: Doc and Edzo *sigh

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 06 May 2014 - 11:31 AM

How difficult would it be to get each team's actual announcers on the game? Genuinely curious? Is that even possible?

would love to have Ken and Mick on a game.

I remember reading somewhere that EA stated doing the commentary is the most difficult and expensive aspect of developing a sports title, that's why it's been Gary and Bill for the last 7 years or so unchanged.

I for one support this entirely and i'm pretty excited about the change. I am a GM for a League Gaming team and play at least 1,500 online games per year, I compete in organized OTP leagues so I definitely overplay the series. Hearing the same commentary for the last 7 years has pretty much forced me to turn it off in the options menu entirely. While i'm not thrilled about Eddie being here, the rest don't much bother me and it's a much needed change.

#2518580 WCQF - Series H - San Jose versus Los Angeles

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 01 May 2014 - 02:23 AM

Well if this proved anything, it's that things could always be worse. We could all be Sharks fans.

You think WE are frustrated and annoyed with our team? Imagine dealing with this over the last how many years with no championships.

Incredible feat for the Kings, I think a few of us had it in the back of our heads that if a team was going to come back from a 3-0 hole this year it likely would be against the Sharks. I don't know how I would handle the choke as a fan on their side of the ice after their playoff history in recent memory.

Updated.. crunch time boys. Win or go home, that's all there is to it. Bring it home for game 6, our season DOES NOT end today.

#2515830 The Franzen Hate.

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 25 April 2014 - 02:58 PM

I'm a little confused by his "ridiculous surge in the latter part of the season".

Franzen had 1 goal and 7 points in the last 18 games of the regular season  :eh:

Are you confusing Franzen with Nyquist?

Granted, Franzen had 12 points in the 6 games prior to that slump. Which of course makes his stat-line look better when looking at the last 24 regular season games - 19 points in 24 games. However, that deceiving state-line doesn't change the fact that he wasn't producing for the last 18 games of the regular season.

So I would agree that the wings wouldn't have made the playoffs if it weren't for Franzen's "ridiculous surge for six games with about a quarter of the season left to play". But, I would also agree that if Franzen actually would've showed up for the last 18 games of the season we would have easily made the playoffs and probably would be playing the Pens rather than the Bruins.

He absolutely does not deserve praise for helping us make the playoffs. There's a reason the credit is going to all of the "kids" on the team.

I think what he is referring to is the 7-8 game hot streak he went on immediately after the Olympics. In that respect I do agree, had he not played that well for those games we likely lose 2-3 of them instead of winning and possibly miss the playoffs altogether.

What the key here is, and it's how most around here feel about him, putting in that effort for only 20% of the season isn't going to cut it and the money can be spent better elsewhere. On a fan forum for a sports team, there will always be those players that people are going to target and they will be on again and off again about depending on performance. If everyone held the same opinion of everything always, this forum would be pretty boring. Attempting to gain justification of someone's opinion on a discussion board to me is a lost cause.

4 goals in 4 games might get the job done if we are all rooting for a soccer team. That's about where i'll leave it.
