I didn't prepare anything for today as it's been a busy weekend, but it's two hours until game time and nothing is up yet.

Keep the winning streak alive, keep the scoring potent. Florida is a team that we absolutely can and should beat, show up and win this one boys.

Edit: I posted up a concept of what I have been working on, it's an imcomplete GDT graphic but it's a preview of the finished project, added the lines below (Thanks to HockeytownRules19 for posting current lines) so there was some kind of respectable looking GDT for this game.

#2477009 Red Wings Puck Cases

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 25 January 2014 - 02:15 AM

I have never personally bought any autographed Wings pucks, but I have a few that I got signed in person while having the rare pleasure of meeting some of the players.

Brendan Shanahan - 1997 Cup Champion Puck

Steve Yzerman - Official Game Puck

Chris Osgood - Official Game Puck

Pavel Datsyuk - Graphic Red Wings Puck

Slava Kozlov - Atlanta Thrashers Practice Puck

I felt like Kozlov was honorable mention as a former Wing, I used to live in Atlanta and went to Thrashers practice a lot. There was literally 5-7 fans there at most so there was always an opportunity to meet, talk to, and get autographs from players. This particular day he flipped me a practice puck and I got him to sign it afterwards. Luckily for me, I also received another one and got Kovalchuk to sign one side and Hossa to sign the other. It was a great experience with a few former Wings and a superstar.

Datsyuk and Osgood came from an opportunity to get back next to the locker room after a home game, my best friends grandmother was on a health decline and her daughter (My friends mother) had contacted the JLA executives saying it was one of her final wishes to be able to meet Chris Osgood. He agreed, met with us, signed a bunch of stuff, took some pictures and spent a solid 30 minutes hanging out. Datsyuk just kind of showed up with a big smile on his face, gave her a big hug and signed a bunch of stuff for us also, it was incredible. She has since passed away and was buried with her autographed Osgood jersey.

We need to have Tootoo in for games when we are facing the likes of players like Prust, Neil, and Dorsett. We don't need to get knocked around causing more injures.

#2475048 Leaders need to be leaders

Zett has 3 points in his last two games, and in an offensively slumping season he is still scoring slightly above a point per game. He is human, mistakes are going to happen, Z isn't the problem here.

We can pick apart however many reasons we can to find an alternate reason as to why this team is in the shape it is in, but it continues to go back to the main reason. Injuries and commitment to aging roster players that no longer serve a valuable function.

Blaming individual players at this point isn't fair because we are playing at half strength. It's a constant game of shuffle and adapt as players continue to come and go. It's been the story of this season and last. Some guys need to retire, some kids need to play more, and most guys need to stay healthy for more regular periods of time before things begin to improve. It is going to be a lot of up and down until then.

Backes is a monster, and I agree that he is among the league elite power forwards, if not the best. I'd flip from excitement if he ever landed here but I see him as being a career Blue.

#2474443 Blessing in disguise?

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 19 January 2014 - 11:23 PM

I enjoyed this post, and there are a few important facts. Biggest one for me is getting a look at the younglings that we otherwise wouldn't have for potentially years had we not been suffering these injuries all year. Sheahan absolutely would not have played a single game this year, but now that he has, he's already beginning to look like a roster player that we otherwise wouldn't have a clue of how ready he is to play. Tatar in a bigger role is producing and it makes me feel a bit more comfortable in the future if we do have more injuries that some can step up and deliver.

It's a situation of making the best out of the worst, every win is important, and what our kids are doing is vital to their future. Things could be so much worse right now, I keep trying to remind myself of that.

They are within the constraints of site image parameters, if you see one you like feel free to use it as your signature image. I am also willing to take requests here, if you want a certain player, a unique style, feel free to reply here or send me a forum PM and I can see what I can do to make it work. I can also add LGW user names to any of the existing banners below.

#2474277 Nucks vs Flames

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 19 January 2014 - 12:27 AM

While Hartley didn't do anything against the rules, he did not do any favors for the image of hockey. Please tell me, why were they fighting right at the starting faceoff? Nothing has happened in the game yet, to react to. Therefore this was deliberate move on Flames part to start the game with a line brawl. This wasn't an MMA meet or a WWF show. This was supposed to be a hockey game. I have nothing against fighting when it is a reaction to something that the opponents did wrong. Or even when it is done to change the momentum of the game. But staged fights like this one disgust me.

To me, and I could be wrong, it appeared that the opening faceoff kept getting delayed, something was off and both centers were chirping at each other about it. This is how I saw it, maybe something that was said between the two in the faceoff circle sparked it and it wasn't premeditated at all. Once they got into it then the others decided to jump in.

This is also a Canada vs Canada team matchup, there always seems to be bad blood when two Canadian teams play. Calling it "staged" though I don't feel like is the situation, this isn't pro wrestling and staged is the same as saying scripted like the coaching staff met with each other before the game and said "Hey let's have a big fight right at puck drop".

More info will come along by tomorrow about the incident i'm sure.
