#2470217 Datsyuk vs. Zetterberg

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 02 January 2014 - 12:30 PM

We generally seem to hold up a lot better with Z in the lineup and Pav out opposed to the opposite way around. When you are speaking in the sense of which one is overall more important to the team, and when separated who tends to show up more in big moments and helps this team win more games i'd have to go with Captain Zetterberg. He is Captain for a reason, because he brings so much more to the table than a strong skill set and likely more than we'll ever see or know about.

While I feel that Datsyuk has a better skill set and is a more complete player, If it came down to keeping one or the other, I see this squad playing more successful hockey with Z over D.

It's the Winter Classic, who knows when we get another one. Does this really need to turn into ANOTHER Cleary bash fest? I mean seriously, can't we just watch and enjoy the game without irrationally nitpicking about a guy who has done nothing to earn grief this entire game?

It would be awesome because it's getting old.

that is all for today. This team has no heart,

What are you watching? This team has more heart and energy going in this game than i've seen most of this season.

Agreed.  I honestly don't know if it was or wasn't.

Which is why it's hilarious that Olczyk is using some angle from high along the side boards to determine that it was a good goal.

He's using one of those 82 cameras on hand, the one that has calvin peeing on the Wings logo reserved for just him.

I'd like to hear them chirping at each other and hear what sets them off enough to fight.

leafs win 4-1.

i'm already looking forward to next years winter classic when a TRUE NHL franchise plays in the winter classic. The Pittsburgh Penguins.

Hope the Crosby wagon doesn't hit a pot hole and you fall off before then!

Because, ya know, TRUE franchises were formed in the late 60's not those original teams in the 20's or anything.

#2467901 New guy, needing help

Posted by MabusIncarnate on 28 December 2013 - 12:45 PM

Greetings from the United States, and welcome to the site!

It really all depends on how far back you want to go, as an original 6 NHL team the Red Wings history is rich and deep, a good place to begin would be researching and learning about the legacy of Gordie Howe, one of the all time greatest players to ever grace the NHL and wear a Wings sweater.

If you aren't looking to go that far back, the early 90's would be a good place to begin, when this team finally saw a turn around when Nicklas Lidstrom, Steve Yzerman, and Sergei Fedorov became part of this franchise and began creating legendary milestones. You also have the vicious rivalry sparked by the Kris Draper incident between Detroit and Colorado, and how that all escalated and made itself an important part of Red WIngs history.

There is a really good dvd box set titled The Detroit Red WIngs: A Celebration Of Champions that has a ton of great information, classic games, important events, and their more recent championship games. It's a wonderful place to begin as a new Red Wings fan (I'm confident you'll become one of us... one of us... one of us) and start submersing yourself in everything that makes Hockeytown great.

I hope this helped, and look forward to seeing you develop as a fan of one of the greatest teams on the planet.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all the great fans here on the best Red Wings fan site on the internet.

I thank and appreciate all the hard work that Matt does, the rest of the site moderators, our regular GDT creators, and the ongoing support from the posters that fill the boards with opinions and knowledge. It's a brilliant community and I wish everyone a safe and happy day.

Let's bring in the new year with healthy players and lots of wins, GO RED WINGS!!

I can see this being a big part of sports future. I mean they can put impressively functioning cameras with video in cell phones that weigh next to nothing and would fit snug into a helmet without adding additional weight or interfering with that players mobility. I think what holds it back is television and censorship, you can't ask players to watch their mouths but you can't have F bombs being dropped on live television on public channels either. In my mind, this is likely why we haven't seen more stuff like this during games, as great as it would be and even make the shootout a bit more interesting with player and goalie-eye views of it going down.

I'd be happy with them bringing back the glow puck but i'm easy to please. It was kinda like watching Tron hockey.

I really don't remember a season when injuries were THIS bad. I mean there have been a few rough stretches in recent memory but not to this capacity. This is yet another respectable quality player not on the squad for an extended period of time, and long term it's really going to damage this teams chances of making playoffs this year unless something improves fast.
