Looking for a good documentary/book on hockey history

07 September 2012 - 08:55 PM

Exactly as the title says, I've always been interested in learning about the evolution of the game and i know a minute amount of facts from the early days of hockey and its development and growth in Canada and North America. Can anyone recommend a good book or documentary online that talks about the actual evolution of the game itself and the culture surrounding it in detail? I'd love to learn more! I've come across a few web pages online and I know of CBC's documentary from like 6 years ago, but maybe I'll get lucky and find out more and better information!

For example, one of the original rules of hockey out of Halifax (there was two major "schools" of hockey very early on, one in Montreal and in Halifax), was that you could not pass the puck/wood block forward -- only side to side or backwards to advance your team.

thanks everybody
