#2436153 Cleary re-signs with Detroit, 1 year, $1.75m deal

Posted by chrisdetroit on 12 September 2013 - 11:52 AM

Wow!  I really expected an LGW meltdown but many of the posts were actually positive.  How can you hate a guy that takes a big paycut and a reduced term just so he can stay on the Wings.  I think even the Cleary haters (or most of them) have to respect him for this.  OK.  Maybe not.

I'm glad he's back as long as it doesn't affect Nyquist, Tartar or DeKeyser....

#2431301 Rule 48: not working as planned.

Posted by chrisdetroit on 23 July 2013 - 04:49 PM

The increase in concussions is the result of several different factors.  When the league returned from the 2005 lockout, they made several rule changes to make the game more entertaining and some of them resulted in more collisions and more violent collisions.  They need to roll back some of those rules:

1.  Two line passes were allowed.  This creates more speed through the neutral zone.

2.  The trapezoid rule was added that keep the goalies from playing pucks in the corner which results in opposing players racing into the corner for the puck.

3.  There was a crack-down on interference.  You can no longer hold-up a player racing to the goal.

If the league want to reduce the number of concussions and injuries in general, they need to change these rule back.

Trying to enforce rules against hits to the head as we have seen doesn't work.  The rule is to subjective.

Night and day difference between a NASCAR helmet and a hockey helmet. The technology exists.

LOL.  Try skating up and down the ice wearing a NASCAR Hemet.

#2429450 Smith files for arbitration

Posted by chrisdetroit on 11 July 2013 - 11:38 AM

I see people are comparing Smith to DeKeyser.  They are totally different types of players. DD is a defensive stay at home defenseman.  Smith is an offensive defenseman.  He jumps up into the play alot and this on occasion has caught him out of position.

We need both types of D men.  Unfortunately, it is a lot harder to be an offensive D man.  Smith will be fine.  It just takes some experience.

#2428587 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by chrisdetroit on 07 July 2013 - 05:13 PM

Brunner lost his chance with the Wings when they signed Weiss and Alfie.  They no longer have the cap space.  And $4M? Forget it.

They will have to shed cap space just to sign Anderson and Nyquist.  Brunner and Cleary both blew their chances, now they will end up signing with non-playoff teams.

Brunner was a gamble anyway.  He's not tough and not good defensively.  Best case, he would need to improve his game considerably and who knows if he could last and entire season.

Move on.

#2424843 Report: Red Wings out on Lecavalier - signs with Philly 5@4.5 per

Posted by chrisdetroit on 02 July 2013 - 05:09 PM

I'll put an "F" bomb in front of that. Pay 36yr old $hitty 3rd liner in Samuelsson 3Million dollars and won't cough up 5M for center 3YEARS YOUNGER and is probably as good  as Zetterburg? :scared:

Jesus, everybody is throwing around invalid comparisons.  $3M is alot less than $5M and Sammy was signed for 2 years not 5.

As good as Zetterburg.  That's ridiculous.  Get a grip people.

#2423295 Jonathan Ericsson - should we consider trading him?

Posted by chrisdetroit on 29 June 2013 - 08:17 AM

WTF?  Trade our #2 D-Man because???

I remember when Ericsson signed his current contract and a lot of forum members thought it was overpayment. Doesn't look so bad now, eh?

That ALWAYS happens on the forum.  I remember when they gave Kronwall $3M per year.  Fortunately Kenny doesn't read this forum.

#2420265 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by chrisdetroit on 17 June 2013 - 12:52 PM

don't kid yourself, hudler is just as useless as Sammy

I don't understand how people can be so down on Sammy.  He was out all season with injuries.  He played what 2 games?  But that means that he is useless?  As far as Hudler, people may not like him but he has averaged 17 goals a game throughout his career.  He had 20 4 of the past 5 years and 10 in 42 games this year.  He's not a Rocket Richard candidate but he's certainly not useless.

#2382207 Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

Posted by chrisdetroit on 08 April 2013 - 11:41 AM

It will be a shame if the Wings don't make the post-season... almost inconceivable.  Yes, I do think that word means what I think it means. ;)

If that happens, it's not like the Wings didn't try and didn't know it could happen.  They're doing their best with the situation.  That I believe... not sure more bodies or different ones (for too much money) would have made that big a difference in Year One of our Lidstrom-less existence.

Guys missing from last years team:

Lidstrom

Holstrom

Stuart

Hudler

Bertuzzi

Helm

that's 6 regulars out 18 regular skaters -  fully 1/3 of the team.

Veteran guys that they brought in to help

Coliaccavo

Sammuelson

Tootoo

2 of the 3 have missed almost the entire season.

Rookies that are filling in:

Lashof

Smith

Kindl (partial season experience)

Andersson

Nyquist/Kindl

Based on this, just to make the playoffs have been a struggle.

I am glad we didn't mortgage our future.  One or two more expensive free agents were not going to replace the 1/3 of the team that we lost.

#2363589 3/3 GDT : Blackhawks 2 at Red Wings 1 (SO)

Posted by chrisdetroit on 03 March 2013 - 09:19 AM

The Wings will be amped for this.  They WILL beat the Hawks in regulation.  It would be great to see Kane get Kronwalled.

#2361922 2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

Posted by chrisdetroit on 27 February 2013 - 12:39 PM

There was no possible way that they could have beat Vancouver on Sunday and they not only beat them, they embarassed them.  They were playing with 8 injuries, less than 24 hours from their last game and using a goalie that was supposed to be resting.  Vancouver had only lost 4 times in regulation. 8-3 and they outshot Vancouver like 13-2 in the 2nd period.

Just like there was no possible way that they could lose to Columbus 3 nights before.

So much for predictions.

Wings 4-2.

#2361916 2/27 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Kings 2

Posted by chrisdetroit on 27 February 2013 - 12:33 PM

I smell a loss but I will be optimistic and say 4-2 wings.

You "smell a loss" but will be optimistic?  For God's sake man, pick one.  Win or Loss.  You can't have it both ways.

#2360288 2/24 GDT : Canucks 3 at Red Wings 8

Posted by chrisdetroit on 24 February 2013 - 03:26 PM

Let's see, the Wings are playing the 2nd time in less than 24 hours, they have 8 guys out with injuries including the back-up goalie that was supposed to start.  They are playing one of the best teams in the league who are well rested and only have 1 injury.  Our powerplay and pk are near the worst in the league.

Taking that all into account, there are people that still feel that need to come on here and predict a loss.  I guess I don't understand the point of that.

I'm going with a robbery.  Jimmy is going to steal the game.

#2357262 No need to panic

Posted by chrisdetroit on 18 February 2013 - 12:50 PM

Ah yes, the classic "It's not Holland's fault!" excuse.  Like there were no better d-men to be had via trade or free agency that were better than Quincey or Colieakmsxkndnhdsvo.  Poor old Holland.  I mean Lids and Stuart leaving were a complete surprise to him.  As you said though, at least Brunner has worked out so far, which again is because of a scout and not through Holland's trade prowess or draft genius.  Holland's real good at finding pieces that nobody really wants and hoping they turn it around in Detroit, but he hasn't competed against other teams for a top talent and won in a long time, and it's become painfully obvious.

esteef

If he went chasing the flavor of the month every year like San Jose does you'd be happy.  BUT look at San Jose, they have depleated their prospects to the point where their prosepect are LAST in the NHL.  But hey, they always seem to land the hot commodity.  A hell of a price to pay.  Mortgage the future for the flavor of the month..  LOL

We could probably get a top D man for Nyquist, Tartar, Smith, etc.

No thanks.

#2352252 Mrazek To Start Tonight

Posted by chrisdetroit on 07 February 2013 - 12:32 PM

I just hope that most around here don't set their expectations too high & think it's pronounced "Jesus".

LOL.  The expectation on LGW are always low.  We could have the best team in the league and the LGW posters would want to blow it up...
