I think what works against Kronwall is that he does a lot of things really well, but he isn't dominant in any aspect of his game. He isn't a shut down type defenseman, he isn't a game changer offensively, the occasionally "Krowalling" is entertaining, but his overall physical game is lacking, and what GMP said about his shot. It isn't to say I'm not a Kronwall fan, but I think the fact he's decent at most things, but not great at any one thing is what gives the impression he's not a #1 type defenseman.
Ok, I'm reading all of this trade bashing. Can someone tell me exactly what Jarnkrok has done on the NHL level that makes this so outraging? He's 3rd on the Griffs in points. Yes, he shows some promise...it get it. I get the "young talent", "ton of potential" thing...but has anyone looked at our current roster?? We are extremely heavy on really young guys. Our brass has said (and done well with for the most part) the theory on experienced players and their being counted on to perform in the playoffs. We knew if we wanted to get any player today, we would have to give up a piece of our young talent. So....am I outraged that we lost Calle Jarnkrock in a trade today...not really....in fact, I think looking at all of our young talent losing a soft Euro with the proverbial "great hands", who has hinted that he wants to go home to Sweden and play, is actually a decent price to play for a veteran like Legwand.
...I was so down on Riley after the DUI last year that I didn't think he deserved to pull on a Wings sweater - but god has he changed my mind to the point where I am the biggest Sheahan fanboy out there.
So basically... It's ok to drive drunk if you're good at hockey?

Absolutely they do. It shows that you're pissed off that the guys you're playing are kicking your ass all over the rink and on the score board. The Wings lose like a bunch of wimps, they take it lying down. It doesn't hurt anything to show some goddamn moxie and be pissed off that you're losing an important game to a conference rival that is going to take an important 2 points from you. And I'm sure someone will say "Well they should be focused on scoring goals... not starting scrums/fights" Well, clearly they aren't doing a good job at the whole scoring goals thing, so do something! Don't roll over and die like they do.
....except that the only guys they should really be upset with are the ones wearing the same color jersey.
Scrum/fight because of some dirty play or something happens? Sure, stand up for your team mate. Respectable.
Scrum/fight because you're getting beat because the other team is better at playing hockey than you are? No. That makes you the kid that throws the chess board because he can't figure out how to win. Not Respectable.
You call tonight 'losing like wimps'.... and then you suggest losing like whining children.
No that's just wrong. Eaves was one of our better forwards and had some good scoring chances as did miller, Andersson, Tatar and Nyquist. I think our top line had one or two good scoring chances both by Alfie from a Datsyuk pass
I thought Jurco's pass to Pavs, that Pavs ended up not being able to put away on an empty net was one of the best chances in the game. You left that one out.
A player with no history of anything more than a bruise on the knee all of the sudden tweaks his knee after a series of games where he's been sub-par at best. And its so happens that it's so bad while there is no indication or MRI or anything they are scratching him and calling up a Mrazek over 24 hours before the game. To me this screams 'he needs a couple days to sort out his head before they can try playing him again' move.
i think its funny how fan opinion of howard has spiraled out of control. if you look at goalies with more than 10 games, howard is 28 out of 45 in save percentage. so even though he is having a bad season, thats still middle of the road. now, with a contract like his, expectations are higher than middle of the road. i get that. but people act as if he has been atrocious or something. gustavsson has been great and i am glad he has gotten a good number of starts. but the best goaltender in our organization is still jimmy howard. and if we want any legitimate playoff aspirations in the next few seasons, it means howard in goal.
let me throw out a little stat here:
the highest save percentage gustavsson has ever had in a season: 90.2
the lowest save percentage howard has ever had in a season: 90.8 (excluding his seasons with 4 or less games played)
gustavsson is playing great right now. but its a hot streak, nothing more. i for one am still behind howard. i feel the majority of his goals are due to poor defense not poor goaltending.
I really don't get why some players are given an automatic pass and others aren't. We can't play the whole damn team with Datsyuk to produce. He was given a big contract to come in and be a #2 center. He was supposedly a #1 center in Florida and this was supposed to be a no brainer. Now people are happy if he just doesn't suck while he's out there? It's unbelievable.
I really don't get why some people absolutely write a player off after being on the team for 25 games. Comparing Weiss to Alfie is just as stupid as it gets, Alfie has elite vision and Hockey IQ which 80% doesn't even possess, that's why he can come in and do what he does. I question your loyalty as a Wing fan sometimes, if it isn't Datsyuk or Zetterberg according to you they suck.
How about giving the guy more than 20 games ? and not playing him with Sammy and Cleary. If you remember correctly a couple weeks ago Datsyuk was playing with Cleary and Bert and went -6 in a span of 3 games and only put up 1 point, that alone should tell you what Weiss is going through.
