#2386365 Howard = Average

Posted by GoalieManPat on 18 April 2013 - 08:58 AM

He was a big factor in the first goal. Maybe he moves his ass a wee bit faster.

Lol now your just reaching to try and find some reason to hate on him. He has to play the shooter which is what he does. Guys on the side of the net need to be taken out by the defense which Kindl didnt do in the least bit. No way he gets over in time even if he plays for the pass. Only reason that doesnt go in is if the shooter misses the net or he puts it into Howard.

#2385725 Franzen.... cares?!

Posted by GoalieManPat on 17 April 2013 - 05:22 PM

My only thought is maybe Franzen and Cleary dont react well to be called out in the media. Babs knows this and instead tries to inspre him with praise. Its the only reason I can think of for a coach as good as him to say Franzen and Cleary have been good.

#2383068 Official: Howard signs 6-year, $31.8m contract extension

Posted by GoalieManPat on 11 April 2013 - 05:16 PM

Anyone thinking we will have a Luongo/Schneider problem in the future is clueless. Luongo's cap number is comparable to Jimmys but Luongo has what 9 years left on his deal when trying to be moved. That contract is almost unmoveable with getting any decent in return. Now if Mrazek or anybody all of sudden beats Jimmy out for a job in the next 2-3 years (which is how long it would probably take at minimum) its a heck of a lot easier to move a 5 million goalie contract with only 2-3 years left on it. Heck even in that time Luongo's contract could still have more on it than Jimmy initial signed for. Im actually hoping we have a goalie battle down the road. That means the Wing will have to top notch goalies with easily moveable contracts. Much better than the alternative of having none.

But what it comes down to is there are people that dislike Jimmy will never give him credit. They will complain about the 1 he lets in but instantly forget the 35+ he saved. But thats common about Wings fans. They will never be happy with any goalie. Hell the wings could put a board up in front of the goal that covers the entire net and people would find a reason to complain about it.

Howard was a very good goalie coming out of college but for some reason I have the feeling that Mrazek is one of the next wave of elite goaltenders. He has dominated every level that he's played at, especially against the best of his peers at the WJC and is tearing up the AHL. I think Howard is more of a positional, structured goaltender where Mrazek seems to be a athletic/skill guy. Positional goalies can be very good but i think I guys like Mrazek that take the position to its next level. Point is, i wouldnt be surprised at all to see Mrazek pushing out Jimmy by the end of year two and almost certainly in year three.

The kid will turn 24 in year three...if he is what he's touted to be, he should be well coming into his own by then.

If so a 3yr/5million contract is easily moved. If Mrazek fails then the Wings have another 3 years to develop someone else. Good contract if you ask me.

#2380819 Ilitch is being cheap with the Wings now that the Tigers are good.

Posted by GoalieManPat on 05 April 2013 - 03:23 PM

How is he being cheap. He had no problem offering up 80 million to Suter and Parise this past off-season. The OP has completely failed at making a relevant post.  You cant compare the Wings and Tigers. One sport has a cap and the other doesnt.

#2380668 Player Hits Ref With Stick

Props to the linesman for not going crazy after the player and doing his job,

#2380617 Red Wings lack offensive creativity

Posted by GoalieManPat on 05 April 2013 - 12:02 AM

This seems to still be relevant.

Nothing....just nothing.

Not one player in this lineup can be counted on to score when we REALLY need one.

I can count on Hank or Pav to assist on the goal, but no one to score it.

It will continue to be relevant until Holland gets back to doing his job and building a winning roster. Not a roster of two stars and spare parts.

#2380600 4/4 GDT : Red Wings 2 @ Coyotes 4

Posted by GoalieManPat on 04 April 2013 - 11:40 PM

Glad datsyuk decided to take a night off. Anyone that thinks that euro is top 5 in anything other than being lazy and turnin the puck over is a fool. We need a hard working top player.

lol Troll fail

#2380362 Babs vs. Kenny

Posted by GoalieManPat on 04 April 2013 - 06:37 PM

cleary and tootoo  Emmerton should rotate as our scratch guys

Fixed that for you. Most nights Tootoo is the best energy guy on the ice.

#2380338 ryan clowe haters

Posted by GoalieManPat on 04 April 2013 - 05:27 PM

to the ryan clowe haters who thought he sucked with his 0 goals was washed up and laughed at me for saying the wings should go hardcore for him .... i know its just one game but 2 goals 2 assists first game as a ranger

suck it  lol

could of had a  6"2 225 pd hitting machine that also fights and shows up bigtime in the playoffs .... but its ok we got samuelsson and bertuzzi

yes its just one game but i look forward to seeing him produce just to prove the haters wrong .... big missed opportunity

ZOMG GIVE HIM AN EXTENSION NOWWWW!! Why do I have a sneaky suspicion youve been waiting a couple weeks for him to finally score so you could come in and try and give some validation to things youve been posting. HE had a good game. Good for him. But based on his play this season hes more likely to finish the season like the first 28 instead of the last one.

#2379883 Shocking, Wings aren't active as trade deadline expires

Posted by GoalieManPat on 03 April 2013 - 07:08 PM

How active did you really expect him to be? What big moves do you think he could have made that would have done anything more than just move the team maybe into the 2nd round? The only thing Holland failed at today was not moving Flip. Come summer Holland will overpay just to keep him, as Holland didnt have the stones to move him, and basically we will have a Franzen 2.0 contract.

#2379157 An interesting point about our apparent deadline strategy

Posted by GoalieManPat on 03 April 2013 - 08:45 AM

Considering he sat out 20% of the games with injury, you taking that into effect?  Being as that you said 82 games, I would suppose not.

Still 20 points in 29 games is nothing to sneeze at.  Especially for his cap hit.

The problem with Franzen is he brings nothing to the game other than scoring. So when hes not scoring hes almost useless. He doesnt hustle to put pressure, hes nowhere near a physical presence, and his defensive play is less than stellar. Despite his size and snarl the only thing frightened by Franzen is Kanes mouthguard. When you take his whole game into account Franzen is not worth his cap hit or term of contract.

#2373573 Wings Make Offer to Danny D!

Posted by GoalieManPat on 25 March 2013 - 01:28 AM

Lets not get too sure about this until it happens.  Detroit's future is f***knows, Edmontons is possible Dynasty.

No such thing as a Dynasty in the cap world. Edmonton looks great now for the future. Lets see how great they are when all those #1 pick are looking for big money on there 2nd contracts.

#2373571 Iginla may/may not have added Detroit to his trade list

Posted by GoalieManPat on 25 March 2013 - 01:15 AM

If this were last season or the season before when the Wings had a legit shot at the Cup I would say go for it. The Wings are more than an aging Iginla away from being a contender. The Wings are at the start of a transition. Lets not set that transition back another 2 years by trading prospects. I would however trade Iginla for Franzine if thats all it took.

#2370462 Brunner downgraded to the third line!?

Posted by GoalieManPat on 17 March 2013 - 05:25 AM

He hasn't really done anything in 10 games. Maybe the league has figured him out. Miller has been playing above his game lately, and is better defensively. Like said above, he probably got moved down, away from the Twins. He better start chipping in on offense, or he'll be watching games from the press box.

If Franzen can go 15+ games without a goal multiple times the last couple years and never drop off the top two lines then Brunner should be safe from the press box. Especially since Brunner has more points and twice as many goals as Franzen this year.

#2370459 Brunner downgraded to the third line!?

Posted by GoalieManPat on 17 March 2013 - 05:17 AM

Babcock is working on this new strategy that involves having 4th liners play on your top two lines. He believes it will take the league by storm.
