He helps us. No reason to get rid of a guy who helps us.
Franzen (stuck with him) - Zetterberg - ?
Filppula - Datsyuk - ?
? - Helm - ?
? - ? - ?
Kronwall (stuck with him) - Ericsson
Smith - ?
? - ?
Those are the options. I would fill in like this if I was GM.
Filppula - Datsyuk - Perry
Franzen - Zetterberg - Brunner
Tatar - Helm - Andersson
Miller - Emmerton - Shehan
Kronwall - Ericsson
Smith - Kindl
Lashoff - Sproul
Let the kids play until we get a number 1 D.
So aside from bringing in Perry (which we can't do till he's ufa anyways) what have you done? Gotten rid of our #1 goalie for some reason, and brought up another 2 ahl'ers from the griffins? glad you aren't gm

Why? Its a very relevant point. Why dont you prove it wrong instead of griping?
Axe you ignore facts, I have pointed out Howie's numbers the past three seasons several times. People Have mentioned how crappy our defense is and how good Howie has actually been playing, sure he's let in a couple softies, but he has given us every opportunity to win every night. Howie caan't stop every breakaway, 2 on 1, shorthanded opportunities and so on that come every single game. Not even Brodeur in his prime would be able to keep this team winning. You need to stop looking simply at numbers and start looking at what's happening on the ice, Rinne, Lundquist, Miller, Brodeur, Rask, Quick, and Price would all do just as bad on our team. You found one of the few bright spots on our team and made a thread trying to discredit that bright spot, congratulations, you're a tool

We have some good prospects, but they are still playing junior hockey. Sproul, Mckee, Quellet, etc...... They have some talent. Nyquist and tatar are really just fill. Now, you need some fillers in cap era. But stars? Nope.
It's quotes like these that assure me you don't know anything about our prospects.
We have two guys in juniors that are battling it out for the CHL DMan award. We have an amazing Swedish DMan that is near the league leaders for DMan points. A Swedish forward that is making men look like boys all while being on a super craptastic team. One of the best up and coming DMen in the KHL.
That's not even considering a two time hobey baker finalist who is NLT down in the minors to keep our depth alive when it is darn apparent that depth is the key to success this year. Brunner and Tatar are showing they are NHL ready and doing a very fine job in their roles (don't straw man me and remind Brunner wasn't drafted by us).
On top of all that you can't spell XO's name or Jarnkrok's name correctly and you somehow throw McKee in the mix when talking about talented prospects. Just stop talking about Detroit prospects. Just stop.
Are you suggesting that we actually could get an elite player for Jimmy? I mean Jimmy as the main piece, not just a part of some big package.
If so, you must have a pretty liberal definition of the word 'elite'.
Yeah you're right. High quality proven goaltenders in their prime come along all the time. Especially ones who could've conceivably, and should've, won ROTY. And ones that were in the Vezina race until they got injured. It's just that goalies in Jimmy's scenario don't get traded often. Vancouver is asking quite a bit for Roberto Luongo and I wouldn't say Howard is much worse.
What doomsayers and debbie downers on forums fail to realize (aside from the fact they're almost always wrong) is that while they may have number online, in reality no one takes their mopey emo bulls*** seriously. Everyone but Hank and Pav suck, every other team has better players, blah blah blah.
If you aren't aware, the Wings also lost a 36 year old bottom pairing DMan. People, Commodore is NOT Rafalski's replacement! Jiminy! $1m for 1 year for a guy who hits, fights, plays stay at home D? What's the beef here?
Because hes a drunk, piss poor defensively, got bought out by a bottom feeder team, has had attitude problems in the past, and to top it all off hes a day walking ginger.
Seriously though, this is Jason Williams 2.0, like it or not, and unless Holland makes a big move before training camp, the team as it stands today has 0 chance at the cup. Besides, if Detroit signs a #2-3 defenseman or trades for one that leaves Detroit with 7 dmen, not including Smith or Janik who both deserved a shot making the line up this year.
I hate this signing because hes cheap and was a healthy scratch on a Columbus team that was horrible defensively last year. Also it doesn't address any of Detroit biggest needs, like a consistent RW/LW, or the 50 points the Wings lost with Rafi.
1). Columbus was a mess, and his salary was higher than his ability and he struggled with that. He was a scape-goat for a horrible defense and was frusterated. He'll be much better in a 5/6/7th role. 2). He was the #3 d-man during Carolina's cup run, including >3min/game shorthanded toi 3). He's big. 4). We've been very successful on reclamation projects in the past, Commodore's potential is high he just needs the tools to get there again.
