#2685108 Datsyuk Announcement to Officially Leave NHL

Posted by WingsallTheway on 26 August 2016 - 03:09 PM

I'd still take Datsyuk for 40 games over Vanek for the next 5 seasons

#2684865 Tom McCollum heads to LA for PTO w/Kings

Posted by WingsallTheway on 16 August 2016 - 03:41 PM

I was under the impression he was under contract for one more season but I probably just wasn't paying enough attention

Good for him, he has potential to be a good backup. He stepped up this season but it seems like Coreau stepped up even more.

http://www.wingingit...for-ryan-miller

Pure talk, but I will say that about 2 years ago I said the Wings will get Miller to play with his brother and end his career at home backing up Mrazek. It'd be too funny if it happens!

I like to go back to the Bobby Ryan trade. If Holland had the balls to deal Jarnkrok back then and a Nyquist with high end potential we'd of had and still have a top line scorer on this team. He may be declining a bit, but he is still better than most of our wingers now.

I think Larkin slower down because he was forced to play in our enept system. At the beginning of the year he was a wild hare and just played hard to make the team. But as he slowly learned the system, his stats suffered.

I'll have to disagree, but of course theres no way of knowing because its all speculation

Larkin, prior to the end of the past season, had never played 82 games in a season before. NCAA teams play roughly 40 games a year, at a decreased level of intensity. Add the travel schedule and pressure of the NHL, and its pretty easy to get winded at the halfway point of the season. I fully expect Larkin to be more consistent this season.

We can't really compare Larkin and AA right now because AA didn't play 80 games at the NHL level. (or at all)

Larkin started off blowing everyone out of the water at the beginning of the season, but he started to slow down. This could have just as easily happened to AA and I think we are going to see exactly what kind of player he will become this upcoming season. I think people really under value the ability of players to play 80 games consistently

Having said that, I'm just as excited about AA as I am with Larkin. I think we have two different types of players here, but AA is probably the closest thing we will get to Datsyuk for a long time

I refuse to believe Holland is that stupid. However, if this were to happen, I would officially side with the F*** Ken Holland crowd...

Why do you refuse to believe Holland would trade a prospect for a dwindling player to come play in Detroit and retire?

#2683213 Glendening signs 4-year, $1.8m AAV extension

Posted by WingsallTheway on 14 July 2016 - 04:41 PM

Hate to break it to you, but we have already seen his best years. Hockey players tend to hit their peak between ages 23-25. Glendy is already past that age and he is not going to get better; he will only get worse. This contract will become another albatross around the organization's neck as they try to "rebuild on the fly".

That is completely false

Peak age is 26-30 both physically and mentally. Its more of a case-by-case basis but there is no way players are best at 23. If I have a good player at that age i get really excited because there is ample room for growth

Especially in the case of a defensive player, the mental game is half the battle. You have to try things and gain experience to shut guys down, so Glendenning will get better

#2682038 Who do you have as the top 5 Wings of all time..

First post doesn't include Howe

Disregarded

#2681567 Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

Posted by WingsallTheway on 01 July 2016 - 02:51 PM

WOW. This guy can be a good player if he finds his motor. Someone has to wake him up and make him a 30-goal guy again. One year deal, i like it.

Helm is the only guy who can do it !!!

#2674988 Calder finalists

Posted by WingsallTheway on 03 May 2016 - 02:54 PM

People are actually upset that Mcdavid was a finalist instead of Larkin?

Mcdavid has just as many points in half the amount of games....

edit: Mcdavid had more points in half the amount of games

#2673765 Free Press: Pavel Datsyuk to return to Russia following Playoffs

Posted by WingsallTheway on 26 April 2016 - 07:01 AM

hopefully out of our lineup

If you don't like Helm I dont know what to say.

Sure, he shouldnt be in the top 6 but anywhere in the bottom 6 and hes one of the best in the league. Its not his fault that our coaches think he should be playing on scoring lines

#2673606 Ownership shows Support for Kenny Holland

Posted by WingsallTheway on 25 April 2016 - 06:03 PM

With some of his comments today, I don't know how he still has support from anyone, let alone ownership

The fact that the media is even questioning Holland is the start of the pressure he's going to start feeling to be successful

I'd say this is a good thing. A part of me was hoping theyd miss the playoffs so this would happen, but winning 1 game seems to have done it as well.

The whole team seems to understand that we were the worst team in the playoffs. Not really something to brag about; to be the worst of the best
