#2490877 Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

On a positive note, "Welcome home, David!"

And now the phase begins where Wings fans lie to themselves and play down Jarnkroks skill and potential to disguise this horrible trade as "bearable".  I am still in shock.

This feels like when you're waiting for your friend to give you that pay-back punch he owes you.

#2489062 Are we really in for Kesler?!

I heard last night that Kessel only had one nut and didn't start a thread about it.

You're really cool.

And looked like a bunch of classless losers the whole game.  I'm all for sticking up for teammates, but I'd rather watch my team play hockey.

I agree that they looked like a bunch of sore losers and I also would rather watch the boys play, but a freaking line has to be drawn somewhere, right? I mean, am I crazy here?  Neil was on Franzen's case most of the game, that's hockey, that's what happens, but when a guy goes up to my teammate, pulls off his helmet and tries to start s*** after the game is already over, I'm stepping in.  Call me classless, call me what you will but there has to be some kind of line that cannot be crossed.

Who exactly do you expect to do that? The Wings have nobody on the roster that could "feed him his teeth". They have guys who would fight but nobody in Neils class. It would be a decided win for Neil against anyone so whats gained?

Really?  These aren't children we're talking about here, these are grown men, professional athletes.  Someone could have stepped in and done something.  I mean, does a player have to be a fighter to fight?  To stick up for their teammate?  Every player has to have a limit, I mean even Yzerman got in a fight, Crosby has participated in and won fights.  Would you consider them fighters?  I'm not saying that there's not a major difference in size or fighting skill, but they're not kids out there.  I may not be a big guy by any means, especially compared to the average professional hockey player, but if it gets to the point were someone from the other team is gooning up one of my guys in the manner that Neil was to Franzen, I'm going to defend my teammate or get my ass kicked trying.

In my opinion there is something to be gained; a message is sent that we're not going to let other teams push us around.  I've seen it a million times before, just like this game, where Wings are up and the other team is just taking a run at whoever they can.  I'm not saying Wings should take stupid penalties and whatnot, but big hits and the occasional scrum when things get out of hand would help a lot, in my opinion.

I guess I'm just tired of the idea that a player has to be a fighter in order to stick up for himself or his teammate.

And I apologize for using the idiom "feed him his teeth" in place for "fight him".  I obviously know we don't have any fighters that are in Neil's class, but I was admittedly pissed at the moment I had written that.

What af****** joke!  Its a sad day when NYQUIST is the one stepping in for his teammate.  Someone should've fed Neil his teeth well before that stunt.

Good win but for f***'s sake someone grow a pair and stick up for their teammate!  They totally bullied use the entire third period.

Lets go Wings, lets get a win in regulation!

It better be Eaves replacing Bert, not stupid Cleary!

#2487295 Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 27 February 2014 - 01:01 PM

It almost seems like forever since this team has dominated everyone oh the good old days. The sad truth is we might never see a team like the 2002 edition again. Bieksa would be a very nice veteran but I don't think he is available

As long as we live in a Cap world we're going to have to let that comparison go.  Suffice it to say that we probably would not be a bubble team (and neither would Columbus) if there was no cap.

As far as Trading youth away goes, I don't see why so many are in support of it.  People are crying for a change to help our future but are unable to see that players like Tatar, Nyquist, Mrazek, Dekeyser, etc ARE our future.  Plus the pool of prospects we have are not looking too shabby.  I'd say give it another season or two before we're trading the farm.

If you look at it, tats and goose are having comparable (real) rookie seasons to Pav and Hank.  FWIW

#2486017 USA-Canada Thread

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 21 February 2014 - 05:39 PM

Honestly, I've never been one for trash talking outside of my own little group of friends watching/playing a game.  I tend to think it brings out the worst in people...and parts of this thread are proving my beliefs to be well founded.

It WAS a good game by BOTH teams, a good win for Canada and a tough loss for US.  It really bums me out that people have to turn what should be a good-natured and high spirited celebration amongst friends and acquaintances into a childish pissing match.  Its disappointing and it sucks the fun out of the whole event, for me at least.

Though, at some point, people are going to have to learn how to take a little ribbing from the opposition, especially when they win.   :tounge:
On another note I will say that I was really, really hoping the US would pull out a win from this one.  I wanted redemption for 2010 so badly.  The game was so tight that I figured that Benn's goal would be all that was needed.  US just couldn't seem to break Canada's defense.  I was sweating bullets the whole game haha.
GO SWEDEN! (which is basically like saying "Go Wings!")

#2479715 Cory Emmerton waived

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 01 February 2014 - 06:58 PM

A lot of dicks on this forum. Kid played his role and didn't ***** when he was yo-yo'ed back and forth with the minors. He might not be the most amazing player by any stretch of the imagination, but at least he shows up, shuts up and does his job.

I'm more appreciative of what he's done for this team, as little as it may be, than I am of what Cleary and Sammy have done this season (which is even less).

But, then again, he doesn't score 20 goals with 5 minutes of ice time, so he's a mediocre piece of garbage....who makes league minimum I might add, not 1.7M or 3M.

Any argument is invalid.

#2439174 Brendan Smith

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 26 September 2013 - 03:00 PM

I was only able to watch parts of the Pens game and I have to say I'm understanding the negative rep Smitty's been getting here on LGW.  The few games I've seen him in this preseason were not that good.  I'm hoping he turns things around when the season starts up.

I still think there is a lot of untapped potential with him, too.  Maybe he'll pull a Quincey and flourish with another team - in a hypothetical scenario that has him traded, of course.

The silver lining in the whole thing, for me, is that we are so deep with defensive prospects that we could probably afford to trade him if that scenario did present itself.  I'd imagine that he could get a pretty decent return as well, or otherwise be a big piece of a larger trade.

For the record I like Smith and I hope he stays and gets better.  I'm just an optimist and I like to look for the positive side of potential negatives (Smith staying in this funk and/or getting traded).

he's terrible, and that doesn't look to be changing any time soon.

Exactly how many players on this team are not terrible, or "losers" as you have said before?  In your assuredly very astute, non-opprobrious opinion, I mean.

#2438627 Report: NHL to have 5 outdoor games in 2014-15.

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 23 September 2013 - 09:06 PM

Why not 12 outdoor games?

Why not have all the games take place outdoors and have one indoor Heritage Classic?

#2436329 So....did Cleary just take Tatar's spot?

Posted by Wingsfan72 on 12 September 2013 - 06:04 PM

Good god, by the talk around here you'd think Babcock or Holland already came out and said Tatar will certainly be gone.  Why is it that everyone thinks this will adversely affect Tatar and not Eaves, Tootoo, Miller, Bertuzzi, or Samuelsson?

Oh I know, because as the last 10+ years of free agency and trade deadlines have shown us, the Detroit Red Wings constantly throw away quality prospects right?

Kinda jumping the gun aren't we guys?
