Goalies in my opinion that are without a doubt better than Howard:
Marc Andre Fleury
That's 12 goalies, putting Howard 13th at best which is by definition, average. Middle of the pack. Again this is my opinion but that's where I'm coming from.
Also, not so much with Vokoun.
Howard (very much like Ozzie) is an extremely underrated goaltender. He is incredibly talented and IMO one of the more consistent players on our team. Just like the game against LA, he can bail the team out and carry them to a win if he has to. I'm genuinely curious what would make people happy enough to give the guy a little credit. He does a lot of the same things your "elite" goalies do; plays tons of games, makes great saves, can be counted on...what more does he need, a superstar cap hit? If he needs to make 7mil a year to be considered an "Elite" goalie, then I am happy with our "average" one.

This was given a 5-game suspension and totaled $125,000 in fines back in the playoffs of 2007 (prior to suspension crackdowns). Both plays were malicious attacks against the opponent using the hockey stick as a weapon, although McLennan gave more of a slash than a spear. Personally, I think these two cases are fairy similar, but everyone else is free to make their own judgment. Nonetheless, if the league thinks the above penalty is worth 5 games, in the playoffs no less, than I don't think its reaching to see Franzen get one game, or maybe even a fine. Granted, there have been a few notable spears in recent memory which didn't result in suspensions, so if he gets nothing I wouldn't be surprised at all. I'm not about to try to predict the outcome of this situation.
I still stand by my belief that this type of behavior is a joke and should be punished. If Franzen wants retribution for a hit he doesn't agree with, then he needs to do it like a man and use his fists, face to face with his opponent. Otherwise get on with the game because frankly its embarrassing and a waste of time.
I honesty don't know how you can compare the McLennan slash to this. I agree it's stupid and shouldn't be done, but that was a premeditated attack on Franzen. McLennan was on the ice for like forty-five seconds and he was hacking from the get-go. Franzen overreacted and speared Perron after he was checked from behind. In no way can you compare.
Franzen should have turned around and clocked him though...
It really bothers me the way some of you talk about Modano.
I thought this forum had enough class to show a little respect to a future hall-of-famer....I mean the guy had an amazing career and was/is an inspiration to US born hockey players of this generation.
The guy got mistreated in Dallas (IMO), and he came to his hometown to give hockey another try. He got injured right when he was starting to flow with his linemates and fit into the wings way of doing things, plus he's had a bunch of good chances, just bad luck...so its understandable that he is pretty much back to step one.
What did you expect a 20+ goal season? I think having him for the price he's at is a steal.
on another note: I really wish Babcock would stop playing Moe with Homer...besides the Pens game last night they really havent clicked IMO.
