I don't think that it should have been a suspension, but the amount of vitriol around here is a little over the top.  I mean, while we might disagree with his call, it is at least a defensible call.  I get the frustration, but I'm not understanding the level of hate.

 

Also, the Weber call (or lack thereof), while infuriating at the time, is completely irrelevant with regards to this.  That's in the past.  And a completely different play.

I think it's more of a product of a frustrating year with a marginal team that is now losing one of its most physical players at a time when it needs all hands on deck.

This Wings team already lacked physicality, and with Abby out, they'll basically have none.

There was no contact with the head until he landed face first on the ice.  Gryba just gotf****** hosed.  Shanny should be ashamed of himself.

They stopped playing defense starting at about the 10 minute mark in this period.  That's how, ultimately, this is a tie game.

I'm not sure where you saw that I thought the Wings were the better team tonight, they weren't but we hung around. We can and will be better in game 2.  It's not a 1 game series, it's a 7 game series, plenty of time for momentum to swing the other way. 

I don't know what game you were watching, but from the end of the 1st period on, this game was Anaheim outplaying Detroit to the point where the goal margin is not indicative of anything but Howard's brilliance in net.

There is plenty of time to swing it though, but there has to be a complete attitude change from the players.  They aren't the more-talented team, which means they have to outwork Anaheim on every puck battle, down low and along the boards.  Given how wildly inconsistent this team has been this year, I'm sure we'll see it at some point in the next few games, but it won't last longer than a game or two, and there is no guarantee they'll win one of the games where they do show up.

I am guessing by your whining and bitching that you were born 11 years ago ? Any guy that is a true fan that questions the roster 2 periods into game one of a 7 game series is lost. Settle in. Have some faith. Be a fan and not a knee jerk reaction negative nancy like some of your friends on here. We need to be better that is obvious This is our lineup. They all know how to get it done. RELAX

LOL - I've been questioning this roster for 3 damned years now - it was clear Holland wasn't planning for the post-Lidstrom era and was and still is infatuated with guys like Sammy and Bert.  Not to mention he gives up 1st round picks for Quincey ( )

And from what we've seen all year long, they clearly do have depth issues and will continue to have them as long as we rely on older players who are more fragile (or who have a lot of miles on the tires) and players who have ZERO grit (Ericcson/Flip especially).

What other than the last week of the season, has this group done this year to inspire any faith?  This isn't 1997.  And it sure as hell isn't 2002.  Wake up.  The Wings barely got into the playoffs in a shortened season, are playing with basically 1/2 of a d-pair and about 4 legit players in the top 6.  There are some nice parts, but they lack shooting, physicality and any type of legitimate secondary scoring.

The better team won tonight.  End of story.  This may be a very quick series unless a completely different Wings team shows up.  Open your eyes already.

 

Do you really think that inserting Samuelsson, who has been addled with a plethora of ailments that have limited him to four games in the past calendar year, is going to make a positive difference?

Yeah I don't get the infatuation with Bert playing either.  The guy hasn't played basically at all this year.  Same with Helm.  Inserting them now will only disrupt things and likely lead to further injury.

We kept the post season record intact, ANY WINS are gravy.

If keeping some stupid playoff streak is the main goal, you're doing it wrong.

This roster needs some serious revamping.

Even Koivu was bulling Howard over a while back.  What's the point of having all these big defensemen, if they aren't going to do s*** about anything?

Well, when your tough guy is 5'7 (tootoo) and your 6'4 D-man makes Paul Kariya look like an enforcer....yeah...not a lot of toughness at all.

Whats most frustrating is that if we just would have gotten 15 more games this year of 'present day mule' we are sitting in 3rd or 4th right now.

They wouldn't be 3rd....I doubt they would have caught Chicago....
