#2633720 10/27/15 - Carolina Hurricanes vs. Detroit Red Wings - TACKY Mad Libs

This one was 100% on the forwards. Zero second chances, outside game all night. If Nyquist and Tatar don't stop constantly curling back towards the blue line in the offensive zone instead of north-southing it to the net, I may explode.

That being said, in a close game like that, the winning team can't have two unassisted goals.

Well, it's difficult to agree with that when the goaltender literally and single-handedly gifted a goal to the other team.

I have to say that this team is not coached very well. Fort the game that both Babcock and Blashill want to play, the wings don't have the right kind of players. They cannot win a puck battle because our players are not aggressive enough, tough enough or big enough.

I'm not ready to pass judgment on the coaching staff as a whole just yet.  I am ready to see a new strategy on the power play, though.  I don't know if it needs to be taken away from Ferschweiler or whoever is running it, but it needs to do something other than create momentum for the opposition.

Its weird that Quincey is pretty commonly heralded as a key piece to our d now.

I've always liked Quincey. I think maybe some people expected him to score here like he did in LA/Colorado and we're disappointed when he didnt. But, he's a solid player and has been a good replacement for Brad Stuart, imo.

What did he do?
I didn't see.

I'm assuming he was referring to when Zetterberg was skating the puck around the offensive zone and got shoved past the blue line and turned the puck over.

I don't think Cole belongs in the same category as Weiss and Modano.

You missed the point, didn't you?

No, I ignored most of what you said because you missed the point.  Never mind, though, it's late.

People are different.  You're going to 'feel bad' an awful lot if you keep expecting everyone to think and react the same way that you do.

I have a feeling that you didn't play hockey much as a kid. Hockey isn't a game where the better team wins. Hockey is a game where both teams generate chances, and sometimes those chances pan out, and sometimes they don't. It has nothing to do with who is a better team, and the type of FULL CONSISTENCY that you want doesn't exist.

We were one shot away from winning tonight. The other team made it. We didn't. I really feel bad for you.

Yes, yes, that's a very well-crafted condescending post that makes you seem dignified and that your opinions are superior to mine.  Mission accomplished.

Now, you didn't answer all of my questions, though... Do you feel that the Flames are a superior hockey team to the Red Wings?

This team is so much harder to watch than they should be. They have to embarrassed at their current level of play because it is pathetic.

#2632356 Joke of the week: NHL Department of Player Safety

Posted by barabbas16 on 22 October 2015 - 06:45 PM

I don't think these 2 situations are very similar. Kronwall left the ice before the hit. Kronawall isn't squared to the hit and makes contact with his arm. Kronwall hits a player moving the opposite direction so the impact is greater (this is a factor). Kronwall wasn't given a penalty on the ice while Renaldo was ejected from the game and given a major penalty.

As argument could be made that this factor (when comparing the two hits) is somewhat offset by the teammate pinning the guy and resulting whiplash effect in Rinaldo's hit.  Otherwise, I agree.

And, I'm just now realizing that all you were saying is that they were different.  So, I agree completely.

Holland's idiocy at work.

I may regret asking this, but why is it Holland's 'idiocy'?

What has Smith done to prove he should be in the lineup over Kindl (or whoever)?

I just want to see 22 year old developing instead of 35 year olds declining. Jurco and Athanasiou bring more to the table than Franzen and Richards, imo.

I think you've made your 'younger automatically equals better and more exciting' opinion abundantly clear.

True sign of the apocalypse:  LGW all agrees on something.

I don't think that's a true sign of the apocalypse.

#2625434 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

Posted by barabbas16 on 14 September 2015 - 11:00 AM

I'm not saying the number should be retired but if someone is coming into the organization they should know a bit about the history right? I mean signing with another team to me also means looking at the tradition, how things are done and learn about the beloved players in the city.

I mean Super Mario's number is not retired league wide and yet nobody is wearing 66 out of respect. Or another example even if Pasha won't have his number retired 13 will always be Pasha for me.

Guys like DMac are so easy to like they've worked hard to make to the but show and then they've worked even harder to stay on the team and add a very important dimension. And this is not just Wings specific there is a reason why guys like Clark, Tucker and Gilmore are some of the most beloved Leafs ever although not the most talented. If people don't like him fine but to act like 25 isn't a special number is wrong for a lot of fans it is and always will be.

I mean if Green really wants the number that much at least do the classy thing and ask DMac if it's ok for him. I'm more than sure he would have said sure go ahead and the optics would be a lot different.

Did McCarty say he was pissed about this or something?

Have we tired of the "Franzen's career is over" conversation only to start the "Datsyuk's career is over" conversion?
Haha, I'm guessing you mean cause he was around for some rivalry years

Haha - I did not foresee that interpretation. No, I hope that Datsyuk remains a productive part of the team as long as his former 'professor' did.

I was just making the comparison that Datsyuk was about as much a part of the rivalry as Rob Blake was.

#2623142 Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)

This reminds me when the Wings poached Coffey out of LA for fallen center-man Carson.  He was pure offense, D was a bit of a question.  Not to worry, Coffey scored so much here that he won a Norris during his time.  Green has been close to winning before, but I predict that he WILL win a Norris within his three year contract.  I also predict he will never leave Detroit, he will retire a Red Wing.
...besides, most players who sign here or are traded here do.  That is the difference between this franchise and most others, we treat our players so well that they usually never leave. Welcome to Detroit, again, Mike Green.  It was inevitable that you come here, and now you will see what its like to play for the best sports franchise in the World!

Well, hopefully in a couple of years, the Wings can package him with someone that reminds you of Keith Primeau to obtain a guy that reminds you of Brendan Shanahan.
