#2443534 10/12 GDT: Flyers 2 at Red Wings 5

Posted by barabbas16 on 12 October 2013 - 01:25 PM

4th line duties are way different compared to what Tatar used to do in GR and should be doing now with DRW. Put Zetter with Miller and Emmerton and the results will be the same.

4th line duties are clearly much different than top line duties.

What role Tatar should be doing now with the Wings is somewhat up for debate, but ok.

Your second sentence, however, is totally inaccurate in my opinion.  Zetterberg is so much more of a complete player than Tatar is.  The results would be anything but the same.

Thoughts.

1. Last night we were exposed by a brilliant, ballsy coach and a hungry, disciplined team. Tippett realized our blue line is actually garbage in its own zone, so he "pinch shifted" his entire team forward, putting our young, bumbling D under extreme pressure and duress, and, in turn, completely stunting our attack. I call this strategy "salting the earth." Kill the the ground, the soil, the ultimate foundation...and nothing will grow. It was incredible to see. We can only hope other teams don't try the same thing, because if they do, we're screwed.

2. Smith and Quincey may be the worst pairing in the league. One of them needs to sit for a game or two or three or four hundred. Brutal. Terrible. Garbage.

3. We have so many borderline useless fourth-line scrubs on this team. Get off your lazy ass, Holland, and do whatever it takes to get Nyquist back in this lineup ASAP. At the very least, we're sorely missing his speed.

4. Babs needs to get over his fear/hatred of kids. Play Tatar, let him run wild on a new Kids Line with Nyquist and Andersson.

5. Through four games we've played, like, 40 good minutes, if that. Wonderful.

1. They will and they should. There's no getting around that we're green on the back end, but the only way to fix that is with experience. The more they get tested now, the better they'll be at the end of the season. Well, either that or we'll know we need to acquire a steady vet on D for the postseason, I guess.

2. Seems like it is mostly Smith to me. He has been the worst D-Man thus far in my opinion. I'm not ready to sell Smith stock yet, but Quincey hasn't looked nearly as bad.

3 and 4, I'm starting to get on board with the youth movement. I definitely think Tatar should be playing. I don't care if a different guy sits for him every game. There are enough...we'll say 'grizzled veterans'... on this team that would probably be better off if they sat some games anyway. Plus, it's not like the current line combos or power play units are exactly working well enough that you wouldn't want to break them up. I'm afraid Nyquist playing will require more injuries, though. I'd also like to see Tootoo playing soon.... and I'm not a big Tootoo guy, but maybe he'll wake some people up.

5. Yeah.... I still feel optomistic that it will get better. At least we've only lost one game that we really should have won (on paper).

#2442053 Nyquist taking things in stride, with class

Posted by barabbas16 on 05 October 2013 - 09:40 AM

But then if anyone who would consider trading for Sammy saw the rest of the game, they would notice that he was a slow old derp that hung out way too high in the offensive zone while his line mated did all the board work.  He did one thing right and got a mildly lucky goal out of it and aside from that looked like an old man afraid to muck it up to build the lead.

I think I'd move a little further away if that was going on too.

#2437504 Devils sign Brunner 2 yrs. $2.5 million AAV

Posted by barabbas16 on 18 September 2013 - 08:05 PM

You can keep your modano and Alfie and over 40 team. Enjoy one decent year and then having no one. I'll take A take a team with a really good balance of youth and experience. Not having Alfie Sammy and cleary and having Tatar Nyquist and Brunner helps us RIGHT NOW and in the future.

Youre being to short sighted.

The best we could've done this year with NO TRADES.

Would be a team like:

Z DAT Abby
Franzen Weiss Nyquist or Brunner
Tatar Anderson Nyquist or Brunner
Eaves emmerton(helm IF healthy) tuzzi

Still lacking size but we are anyways with the crap we do have. This allows us to see what Tatar and Nyquist can give us. It allows us to see if they can be stars or not instead they're hurried in the minors.

And only an idiot would say "Alfie gives us more leadership". HOW MUCH EXERPEINCE AND LEADERSHIP DO WE ALL READY HAVE?!?!?!? HOW WILL TATAR AND NYQYIST GET MORE EXPERIENCE THAT THE NEED?!?!? wish people would think....end rant.

1. That's fine.  We'll keep the team that signed an over 40 Modano and Alfredsson.  You're more than welcome to cheer for someone else.

2.  Actually, an idiot would say "And only an idiot would say 'Alfie gives us more leadership'," because Alfie does give us more leadership.  He was the captain in Ottawa for like 13 seasons.  It is a true statement.  Whether the Wings needed more leadership or not, he provides more.  There's nothing idiotic about truth.

3.  Just because people don't think the way you do does not mean they are not thinking.

#2434185 Capitals sign Grabovski (1 year deal)

Posted by barabbas16 on 26 August 2013 - 05:13 PM

got rid of semin so they needed another lazy forward

I was under the impression that Grabovski had shed the 'lazy' tag a couple of season back.  Plus, Grabovski is making less than 1) the Caps' now 3rd line center, Laich... who, I believe was supposed to become their 2nd line center at some point... and 2) their 2nd line center from last season, Ribeiro - less than he was making and less than he will be making.  Significantly less in both cases.  And, only a one year deal.  Very minimal risk and potentially high reward.  Grabovski is, in my opinion, an above average 2nd line center.... $3 million for 1 year?  Solid signing and I'm jealous of it, honestly.

#2434043 NHL Network 1995 Final VS NJ 12-3pm EST Today

Posted by barabbas16 on 24 August 2013 - 12:48 PM

Still a heartbreaker but he didn't shoot it into his chest. MAF made an athletic save. There wasn't much net to look at.

Ah yes..... if only the newer (garbage) playoff model of MAF had come along a little bit sooner....

#2434039 Samuelsson: IR to All-Star?

Posted by barabbas16 on 24 August 2013 - 12:44 PM

I had no problem with Sammy's first stint with the Wings. It was how he left and the way he acted when he did. If I recall, he was kind of nasty and bitter about the whole thing, not being offered a deal. He was equally unpleasant when he wasn't put on the Swedish Olympic team. Also, if the rumors that he was going to dispute an attempted buyout are accurate, that really hasn't endeared him to me either. With is injury situation, Babcock has seemed to be a bit frustrated with him, along the lines of maybe not believing he's injured or as seriously injured as he says. Just an impression, no direct quotes from Babs.

But this one's all on Holland. I see what his thinking was as far as having a guy on the second unit of the PP play the point with the loss of Lidstrom. But no way in hell was he worth a two year, 6m, NTC deal. I just don't think there was that much of a market for him.

You don't recall correctly.  If I'm wrong, please post a link with Samuelsson's nasty quotes about Detroit from that time period.  Seriously, has the Samuelsson hate gotten to the point now where we're going to make up bad stories about him that never happened?  Or is the hatred just so blinding that we don't really remember and just assume everything associated with Samuelsson was negative and terrible?

#2431122 Did we let one get away?

Posted by barabbas16 on 22 July 2013 - 08:59 AM

Yes... That's exactly what I'm basing it on... Did you not read anything else in this post and just come to the conclusion that I am basing my opinion solely on this shootout goal? I could care less about the move he pulled off in the shootout. I have been saying ever since the team failed to sign him a couple months ago that I thought they would end up regreting it. The point is, there were so many other options they could have let go and given this kid a shot.

How does one not see the upside and potential to a 20 year kid that has been improving every step of the way to a 22/23+ year old that has showed little to no upside... I would prefer to keep a kid out of junior that has the potential to become an NHLer rather than keep a career AHLer / ECHLer...

You are entitled to your opinion. I would definitely agrue with your wording in one spot. I would say that the team "chose not to sign" rather than "failed to sign." And, that would be a decision that was made by people that have more than likely seen Quine a hell of a lot more than you have (unless you are his dad or something) and are way more in the know about what the organization needs/doesn't need at the moment. Career AHL players have their roles in organizations as well... just look at last year's Calder Cup winning Grand Rapids Griffins roster.

#2428002 Brunner Contract Talks

Posted by barabbas16 on 06 July 2013 - 11:39 AM

Interesting.

That said, of the listed teams, only Carolina can afford to give him a long-term contract.

Brunner is about the last thing Montreal needs. They are already too small up front. I hope he doesn't go to Chicago... I can't imagine they can/will offer much to him.

#2427298 is anyone happy right now?

Posted by barabbas16 on 05 July 2013 - 02:56 PM

No this isn't an overreaction thread. I'm just wondering what is everyone's thoughts right now?

Let's look at our team. We lose fil and Brunner which are negatives. Lose cleary and Sammy which are positive.

Gain Alfie and Weiss. So as of right now we are a worse team from last year.

Then to top it all off we could of had a much better player in fil for 5m or Vinny for 4.5m but we got stuck with Weiss for just over 4m?

Then the best part is bobby Ryan got traded for almost nothing. Nyquist, a 1st, and what any other younger prospect not named mantha, Sproul, oullet, mrazek and it would've been a done deal. Youre talking a no brainer of a deal. Ana gave him him for almost nothing they could be got so much more.

So I ask unless there's a more trades or signings(cleary makes us worse) what are everyone's reactions and thoughts right now.

Mine is I'm quite mad. Holland continues to let us down. And THE ONLY wah I see us making the playoffs is we need DAT z kronwall ericsson and Howard to play like like they did this year. As well as guys like Nyquist Anderson Tatar smith and dekeyser need to play major roles as well.

I'm not 100% thrilled or 100% pissed.  Everything isn't over and done with yet, though.  So, we'll see when the dust settles.  However, the above post is simply ridiculous pretty much all around..... and CLEARLY belongs in the overreaction thread.

#2424542 2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

Posted by barabbas16 on 01 July 2013 - 06:55 PM

I think the consensus is that the order of reliability goes TSN>Sportsnet>Free Press>Mlive>Random poster on LGW>Eklund>>>>>ESPN.

Sorry but ESPN is literally bottom of the barrel when it comes to hockey coverage.

Well, you are entitled to your opinion on that just as much as you are on the draft.  I was just saying that it seems like others disagree with your negative opinion of the Wings' 2013 draft.... so you may not be in the consensus there.

bleacherreport.com....

Greatest Needs: Forward depth

Top Pick(s): RW Anthony Mantha, RW Zach Nastasiuk, LW Tyler Bertuzzi, C Mattias Janmark-Nylen

The Detroit Red Wings had a number of options with their first-round pick. They ended up selecting the top goal scorer in junior hockey, winger Anthony Mantha. Mantha scored 50 goals last season and has a great shot. He needs to get more involved physically, but the Red Wings can give him the time to develop that element in his game.

The Wings also added Zach Nastasiuk of the Owen Sound Attack. He switched to the wing halfway through the season, and it made a huge difference in his game. They also added winger Tyler Bertuzzi who is a project, but has some good bloodlines as the nephew of Todd Bertuzzi.

It was some good drafting by the Red Wings.

Grade: B+

sportingnews.com....

DETROIT RED WINGS: A. Got an extra second-round pick for being willing to move down two spots in the first round, where they came away with a fine prospect in Anthony Mantha. Didn’t pick anyone smaller than 6-0, 178-pound Tyler Bertuzzi, selected with that extra second-rounder.

The reality is that, obviously, no one will know for a while how good the draftw as for anyone.  But, I just don't see how anyone on this board can be complaining about this draft.  It seems like in every thread multiple people are whining that the Wings and their prospects are too small and not gritty enough.  So, they draft size and grit.  And there's still complaining.  I don't pay enough attention to who says what, so I am not directly calling you a hypocrite in particular.  Just speaking about the board in general.... it seemed to me like a draft that LGW should have been pretty pleased with.  I guess everyone can;t be pleased.... and some will just always find something to complain about (again, not necessarily you.... just venting I guess).

So you pick the two groups who know nothing about hockey.

So you just say that because they don't agree with what you think.

#2406022 Red Wings don't belong in the same rink as the Hawks?

Posted by barabbas16 on 17 May 2013 - 03:53 PM

I don't know why this article would upset anyone at all. I thought it was hilarious and it made the writer sound like he suffers from small man syndrome.

The Blackhawks are a better team right now than Detroit, no doubt. But they haven't even played Detroit in the playoffs since 2009, when they lost. The basis of rivalries, to me, is mainly in the playoffs. And, even if the Blackhawks win this series.... this Blackhawks team will be a sparkling 1-1 in playoffs series vs. Detroit.

The guy sounds pathetic.

What a complete embarrassment. Hang your heads in shame red wings. You are a total joke. Pathetic. You deserve to lose. You are losers.
