He's more of a factor out there than Cleary or Weiss, both of whom played yesterday...what a great signing Cleary was, with his ONE GOAL. (Sorry, it still irks me...)
And yet, as far as a per game goal scoring rate.... Dan Cleary's one goal in 16 games still puts him above Tomas Jurco's 3 in 62 and Joakim Andersson's 2 in 65.... and he's not far behind Drew Miller's 5 in 79.
Why are guys automatically considered worthless when they get hurt? This is a contact sport, I think. Injuries are going to happen. Not a waste of a trade at all. The moves for Cole and Zidlicky were pretty much exactly what should have happened. They are not at all the reason why this team is terrible now.
They didn't deserve to win this game. What a complete and total embarrassment. Pulling a win out of that pile of garbage they turned in would distract from exactly how poor of a hockey team they really are right now... and they need to take a look in the mirror and realize that fact.
For this season, since he is already paid, I agree. But I can't find the logic behind it in the first place. Paying a #2 goalie like Gus only makes sense if you consider your talent in #3 not to be ready. But that's not the fact, every time Jimmy sits, Petr should get the start. So why did they re-sign Gus? Makes no sense..
Maybe you could say "but we want Petr to play, not sit on the bench as a backup". Fine, put McCollum on the bench when Jimmy plays, let Petr start in GR and recall him, when you want to rest Jimmy/Jimmy is injured once again/Jimmy sucks. Then move McCollum down..
Maybe you could say "but if that doesn't work for whatever reason (delayed flights, Jimmy being a late scratch for whatever reason with Petr not able to get to the game in time, etc. ..) we would have to play McCollum!". Sure, might happen. But how often? 1,2 or 3 times in 82 games? Why pay ~2 mil/year just for that scenario, if you could use them elsewhere with more impact? I'd rather do that and let McCollum get a couple games...
They re-signed Gustavsson because, prior to this season, Mrazek had a total of 11 appearances in NHL games.
And, this is a team that has historically leaned heavily toward the safer option of experience over the riskier option of potential. It is safer to sign Gustavsson (or some other backup with a decent amount of NHL experience) and risk paying him even though you don't need him than to not sign him and risk wishing you had.
I'm not sure why hockey fans need to suffer through bad play and years of frustration all the time. I continually heard the same chatter when Nyquist and Tatar continued to be sent down to the Griffins and we had to watch Samuelsson, Cleary and Bertuzzi. At some point cut ties and play the better guy. I understand Howard starts but he's never won anything for such loyalty and Mrazek is only getting better as he plays more, the team plays solid behind him and he's 7 years younger.
Um... the Red Wings organization is pretty much all about loyalty... if you have a problem with loyalty, you might be happier rooting for a different team.
Also, "Play the better guy" is a hell of a lot different than "cut ties."
I really like Mrazek too and I also see him as the goaltender of the future, but I don't like the idea of handing the reigns over to him this soon. I think maybe a 60-40 split for at least next season and perhaps the following one (depending on how next season goes).... then he gets the starting job based on his performance in the NHL with a reasonable sample size.
I read just fine, thank you. I'm just as bummed as you are over the loss but I'm not going to bite dude so take your frustration out elsewhere. We're both fans of the same team.
I never blamed this loss on Howard, I blame our defense and lack of offense more than our goaltender. That doesn't mean I don't think the goals he lets in aren't soft. This team and us fans deserve better, is that garbage too?
Lol no. I guess I just wasn't clear. I was originally trying to give a poor example (on purpose). Apparently it did not come across that way.
I will say, though, that I blame the poor defense more so than I do Howard for the goals scored against Detroit tonight. I feel that Howard was put into positions that he should not have been put in on at least 2 out of three. Obviously not one of Howard's best games, but he is not the first place I would go if I were to divvy out blame.
What is wrong with the Wings fans at the Joe? You should not be singing along about how your car is in the front yard and you're sleeping with your clothes on at the end of that game. You should be booing the home team that you paid money to watch play hockey, but instead they decided to half-ass it and mail in the game against a bottom feeder team.
Yeah, I just don't understand that decision at all. Glendening is an excellent 4th line center but doesn't belong anywhere in the top six.
I viewed that more along the lines of a message to the guys you would think would hold down that spot (Weiss, Jurco). .... "You're not playing well enough to keep a 4th line center from taking your top six winger spot. At least this guy works hard and provides energy/effort for his linemates. That's more than you are providing. Start producing. Stop sucking."
How old are you? May I ask? I turn 29 this month and I've followed the Wings religiously my entire life from age 8. For some reason i actually retain most of the generally useless history, info, players, trades, and dialogue I've heard along the way. I've followed the Wings for the entirety of Holland's tenure as GM and I have a particular addiction to information I've come across about NHL front offices. I like to think, as a fan, I'm about as informed as I can be enough to make the claims I do.
Holland has done a lot of things right in his time with the Wings, but he also had an All-Star cast of Front Office support along the way...not limited to Dellevano, Scotty Bowman (who I believe brought way more than people even thought...and they thought he brought a lot), Nill, Mark Howe, and several others. But since those people have started moving on, his ability to make good trades has nose dived. If Babcock creates good coaches, I believe Holland was created by other good front office people. HE does not seem to be a great stand alone GM. The two things that he is most credited for are also other peoples jobs (cap management and scouting).
This is far more than vibes bro, but thanks for playing.
WOW! I didn't know you had followed the Wings religiously for over 20 YEARS!!
