Tomas Holmstrom hopes to return to the lineup this Sunday in Chicago or Tuesday at home against the Colorado Avalanche.
“I feel pretty good,” Holmstrom told Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press. “I’m shooting for Sunday. I really hope Sunday.”
In other injury news there has been no word on the status of forward Tomas Kopecky, who injured his hand in the third period of Wednesday's victory against the Dallas Stars.
The Red Wings made one other roster move on Thursday when they assigned defenseman Derek Meech to Grand Rapids for a two-week conditioning stint. He will be eligible to return to the lineup on January 17th.
The Red Wings have no back-to-back games this month until January 22nd-23rd during a west coast trip just before the NHL All-Star Weekend, making it unlikely that Chris Chelios will be rested until that point.
