    Osgood an All-Star

The last 48 hours have treated Chris Osgood rather well: Just a day after inking a new three-year contract, the netminder will help represent the West in the NHL All-Star Game later this month.

The door for Osgood to be named to the team opened up on Wednesday when starting Western Conference goaltender Roberto Luongo opted to withdraw from the event so that he could spend time with his pregnant wife in Florida.

Heading into tonight's start against the Minnesota Wild, Osgood boasts a 19-2-1 record and NHL-leading statistics in a 1.68 GAA and .932 SV%.

One Red Wing who didn't make it as a reserve was defenseman Brian Rafalski, who currently sits second in defense scoring in the NHL. Chris Pronger (Anaheim), Sergei Zubov (Dallas), Ed Jovanovski (Phoenix) and Duncan Keith (Chicago) all made the team ahead of him -- due in no small part by the large contingent of Red Wings players already on the roster.

Forwards Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk along with defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom will start the game for the Western Conference. Mike Babock will coach the team in the January 27th event.
