The Red Wings used their fifth round selection (151st overall) to select 6'4", 186lb. center Julien Cayer. Cayer, a Longueuil, Quebec native, played with New York's Northwood High School last season. The left-hand shot Cayer dominated on the ice en route to amassing 24 goals and 56 points in 42 games. He also added 56 penalty minutes. Cayer is slated to follow in his older brother's footsteps and with play for Clarkson University next season.
Three of the Red Wings' four selections thus far in the draft are college-bound players.
"I talked to the Red Wings (on the draft floor) and they told me they liked my size, speed and shot," Cayer told NHL Network following his selection, who joins fellow Red Wing draft selection Bryan Rufenach at Clarkson.
