Abdelkader enters the second year of his three-year entry-level contract in 2008-09. Abdelkader was a late regular season signing by the Red Wings and only earned the pro-rated salary amount left over from a 2007-08 salary of $850,000. Abdelkader's second and third years are signifigantly lower in base salary ($660,000 and $710,000, respectively), helping bring down his salary cap number down to $740,000. Abdelkader will be a restricted free agent on July 1st, 2010.
