Samuelsson signed a three-year, $3.6-million contract extension on March 25, 2006. The contract expires following the 2008-09 season when Samuelsson will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2009.

Biography

Mikael Samuelsson was drafted 145th overall in the 1998 Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks. Two and a half years later, he made his NHL debut on January 3, 2001 with one shot in a 3-1 loss to the Flames. He played four games in all at the NHL level that year and recorded three shots and two hits. At the 2001 Entry Draft on June 24, Mikael was traded with Christian Gosselin to the New York Rangers for Adam Graves. That season, he played 67 games with the Rangers and scored 16 points. On November 20, he scored his first two goals and was named first star of the game in the Rangers 5-2 win over the Avalanche.
