The Red Wings look so slow. Helm and Nyquist being on the team would be a significant boost.

Thanks for that quality call, O'Halloran. Big hole considering the Red Wings struggles to score goals this season.

I feel pretty conflicted today. Never been a huge Leyland fan because I think his in-game managerial skills are poor, but it's hard to argue with the respect his players have for him and that's probably the most important part of the job. He's a class act too and loves the city of Detroit. The Tigers window is closing with this current group. Next season might be their best shot to win it all before payroll issues really become a factor, so the next manager has to be someone with experience. In my dream scenario, the Tigers would lure Mike Scioscia away from the Angels. Will not be pleased if anyone on Leyland's coaching staff is promoted to manager. Also, don't even bother interviewing Dusty Baker -- that would be a nightmare.

In a perfect world... Z - Pav - Alfie Mule - Weiss - Nyquist Tatar - Helm - Bertuzzi Miller - Andersson - Abby Hopefully by April the best players will be on the team. Edit: Forgot Abby originally. Man, some of these forwards need to go.

I think Smith deserves more time to prove himself, but I will admit being disappointed in his development to this point. He just seems very uncomfortable in his own zone and gets flustered by any semblance of forechecking. The offensive side of his game hasn't really taken off yet either, which was his strong suit as a prospect. The Wings have had some late-blooming d-men recently (Ericsson, Kindl) that really struggled earlier in their careers too and have turned themselves into reliable players. I also think Smith is getting hurt by spending most of his time on a pairing with Kyle Quincey. Seems like Smith and DeKeyser would complement each other better. Overall, I'm not willing to give up on Smith quite yet. However, if the right deal came along for another d-man (Edler is still at the top of my list), then you would have to consider including Smith as part of the package.

This one stings a lot. More than any other Tigers postseason loss since 2006.

The Euro Twins. Magical together.

The same duration you keep pretending to like the Red Wings.

Very delayed reaction getting across, but great recovery for Monster. These past two starts have certainly been encouraging. -

Stephen Weiss will have better nights in Detroit. This has been a rough one. -

I know you're being sarcastic, but my impression overall is that most people weren't against Bertuzzi as much as Cleary and Samuelsson. Bertuzzi is extremely streaky, but when healthy, he's a big body with good hands that can still be a valuable asset to the Red Wings. Done a nice job creating space and going to the front of the net for the Euro Twins so far. -

Nice consistency from the refs. Miss a blatant interference on Alfie, but get the one on Franzen. -
Babs wasn't too fond of the officiating either.
-
Really hard fought win! Nice to beat a Boston team after last night.
-
That's a penalty, but still doesn't change how atrocious the officiating has been otherwise.
-
I'm thinking Brad Watson might have a case as worst NHL official. He was part of the Sabres having the entire game of power plays on Opening Night too.
-
Huge penalty kill. The Wings are doing a great job disrupting shooting lanes today.
-
I think we can chalk that up as a "team is losing 3-1, so let's call something to keep this game close." Oh, another one too.

You would think the speed and skill of the third line in the playoffs last season would have made some lasting impact on Holland/Babcock. Instead they insist on icing an old and slow team, with veterans that all provide the same attribute of nothing. There's simply no excuse for Tatar and Nyquist not to play over the likes of Samuelsson, Cleary and Bertuzzi. These veterans aren't making the Red Wings better and this continues to be the most glaring flaw of the organization.
-
They were awful last season and somehow still a pairing again for this one. You always know who is out there defensively when an opponent scores. Quincey is right there with Samuelsson in complete bust moves.
-
Quincey and Smith have been on the ice for every goal against two years running it seems.
-
People are on Weiss after three games, but sat through many years waiting for Val Filppula's "potential"? I think Weiss probably deserves a little more time before a negative judgment.
-
Tatar is being wasted even more if his one shot to impress was playing on a line with Emmerton and Miller. At least move him up with Andersson on the third line because Cleary and Bertuzzi aren't doing anything offensively there. A highly skilled forward shouldn't be dumped on the fourth line -- how is that giving him any chance to succeed?
-
The third line is far too slow as a group. Switch Tatar and Cleary or something because the bottom-six still has nothing going. Quincey has been the worst player through three games.
