Cory Emmerton has developed into a very solid role player. One of the few players that has exceeded expectations this season.

Val Filppula isn't worth two million right now.

Nyquist needs more minutes. Something good has happened most of his shifts the past two games. Enough of this defensive responsibility nonsense. The top-six needs offense.

How is that not a penalty on Roy on the face off? They have called that all season. Typical garbage officiating by Brad Watson. Someone needs to really go after that idiot Burrows too.

I think so. Franzen is the only real true goal-scorer the Red Wings have on their top two lines and he's extremely streaky. 10 goals in 36 games just isn't very productive. Pavel and Z are more playmakers. So is Filppula, but he isn't even accomplishing that this season. I'm not entirely blaming the Red Wings goal-scoring woes on Franzen, but it certainly would be nice if he would find the net more often. To do this, however, he would have to play in traffic more and that doesn't seem to be a frequent occurrence. The Red Wings need serious help in the top-six and have for years now. Aging, predictable and perimeter oriented isn't a recipe for success in this league. Need some size on the wing that can score goals.

When your "goal-scorer" has only ten goals in 36 games, I think that about sums up why the Red Wings can't find the net.

The Wings did play pretty well. The only issue is I have seen that high shot total before with nothing to show for goals. Namely the series against Nashville where they peppered Rinne. The Red Wings still play on the perimeter too much and many of their shots are rather harmless. They can't or in some players cases (Franzen and Filppula stand out) won't go to the tough areas of the ice to score goals. This team desperately needs some size and goal-scoring ability on the wing.

Why did Brunner change on the second goal? Who else did he think was going to help Jimmy retrieve that puck?

None. Haven't had one since Hossa left.

0-3 against the Calgary Flames. 1-3-1 against Columbus. The Jackets are improved, but three points out of ten is unacceptable when you are competing directly for playoff positioning. It's hard to fathom how that third period happens given the circumstances. Man, does this team ever need a goal-scorer. When's the last time they scored three goals in a game? Now they almost have to sweep the home games next week because of this loss.

Hahaha, all the brilliant saves and that goes in. Just a tease, though. This will end 3-2 knowing the Red Wings.

Wow, just wow. What the hell was the entire team doing? Making a line change all together after that hard effort in the first minute of the power play? Another breakdown. No margin for error when you can't score goals.

Agreed. Now the Wings are in a no-win with Filppula. He walks and they got nothing for him while they could have or they overpay to keep him around for this awful performance.

Filppula has completely fallen off. I mean he's not even remotely a threat offensively anymore. Nyquist is the most dangerous forward tonight.

Call it what you want. I just know the Red Wings haven't beaten one of the worst teams in the league yet this season with the playoffs at stake.

I saw Kipper's numbers before the game and knew he would turn into his 2007 self tonight. Then again, playing the Red Wings is generally pretty easy on goalies.

Love this deal. Jimmy has certainly earned it and I'm glad he's going to be a member of the Red Wings for a long time. I also would like to nominate Jimmy's picture to replace Franzen's with Pavel and Z at the top of the page.

Absolutely playoffs. I don't think this team can win it all, but you never know by sitting at home. Plus, I want to be at the Joe for playoff hockey. Nothing beats that.
