Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"
GoWings1905 replied to unsaddleddonald's topic in General
You aren't alone. He's at the top of my wish list for tomorrow of "realistic" trade options. Would love to see Pominville on Datsyuk's wing. -
I would be OK with Jagr, rather have Pominville. Regardless, Kenny has to get a top-six winger at the deadline. It's the most crucial need of the team.
-
Smyly was off today, but that's not a role he is real accustomed to yet, so I'm not too concerned. Al Al, Benoit and Coke all did a nice job to secure the victory. JV didn't have his best stuff, though the conditions were hardly ideal and he still didn't give up a run. Got his first win on Opening Day as well. So glad baseball is finally back. Now, I'm really getting stoked for the home opener on Friday.

Haha, well played. I legitimately almost put old in parenthesis as that's the most likely outcome of "new" faces by Thursday.
-
It wasn't pretty, but two points is all that matters. Maybe some new faces by the next game. Nyquist was excellent tonight. Abdelkader played with a lot of energy too.
-
Was Smith really trying for a 200 foot empty netter up the middle? Very mistake prone defense.
-
Wow, Ian White is really bad. Not much of a showcase for trade if that's the intent. Glad Q is coming back soon to get White out.
-
They really have to clean up the turnover issue in their own zone. Last half-dozen games or so have been atrocious getting the puck out.
-
Nyquist showing that skill. What a great pass. Love the relieved reaction from Brunner too.
-
Nobody besides Tootoo is engaged right now. How do you get embarrassed yesterday and come out so flat again?

Holland: "We don't need depth...Need a top guy"

The disparity in points otherwise in nearly every other season makes up for it. Pominville's numbers are much better, at a lower price too. -

I like Cammalleri somewhat, but he's more expensive and less productive than Pominville. No way is he a better option between the two. -
Oh boy. Four innings of the bullpen and it's already getting scary.

How exactly? The Red Wings top-six right now is awful. A consistent point producing winger would be a huge boost. Justin Abdelkader and Dan Cleary in major roles is even less what the team needs. -

I actually see Pominville as a viable trade option. Seems like the type of deal Holland would make and he has a history with Regier in Buffalo. Pominville would be a serious upgrade to the top-six wingers. Would like someone with more size ideally, but Pominville is durable and a consistent point producer. -
with trade deadline approaching - who's our tradeable assets?

Filppula can't carry his own line offensively at center. He needed Z last season to finally have his breakthrough performance. I think Fil is a solid two-way player, but he isn't worth five million per year. Especially given his dismal production so far this season. -
Great post. I always remember Stevie Y at his retirement ceremony saying, "Keep demanding excellence." There's nothing wrong with expectations. If I wanted to root for a franchise that didn't care, I could pick up Calgary or Columbus.
-
Pav is on strike until he gets some real wingers.
-
Babcock has done a marvelous job this season. He can only do so much with this patchwork roster his GM has provided.
-
No kidding. He is so out of place as a top pairing d-man. The Wings have depth on defense now, but no one capable of playing a legitimate shutdown role.
-
Bears 7, Lions 0.
-
Multi-year deal with a NTC for a stopgap veteran that fills no particular role. That signing was stupid from the start. Nyquist and Tatar are rotting for nothing.
-
Living in the past isn't going to make this team better. I see your point, but it is Holland's job to make improvements when necessary.
-
It is. They are in a different league than the Red Wings. I want the Wings to improve obviously and address needs, but it almost feels like the cost may not be worth it by Wednesday. This team isn't a tweak away from contention. Especially when it could jeopardize the future for a likely first round loss regardless.
-
I don't know about that entirely. The talent gap between the Red Wings and Blackhawks right now is very significant. They have far superior skill and depth.
