Will be interesting to see how much energy the Red Wings have for an early start on consecutive days. Playing with a lead would be ideal as they are probably going to be tired later in the game. Hopefully the young legs like Tatar and Andersson can provide some jump again. Go Wings!

I'm not entirely opposed to the Red Wings staying at JLA as I enjoy going there, but in all honesty it's quite inadequate as a sporting venue. Besides the sight lines and memories in the building, there aren't many other redeeming qualities. I go to sporting events for the product itself, though the total package is nice considering the cost to attend. The Joe is a dump inside. The lack of restrooms, crowded and unappealing concourse, uncomfortable seats for us tall humans and there's nothing around the arena either. Everyone walks out through the same exit, so it takes 15 minutes to even get out of there after the game. As has been mentioned, the area around Comerica Park, Ford Field and the Fox Theatre is better developed. Building a new arena there makes a lot of sense. I agree with the throwaway premise of society and generally these new venues come at some cost to the taxpayers as well. I don't think moving for the sake of it is desirable. However, in this case, the Red Wings genuinely need a new arena to play their home games.

The Oilers only scored one goal. Coincidence?

Really strong team effort again today. The refs interjected too much, but other than that fun game to watch. All four lines were generating chances at even strength. Pav was brilliant. Ericsson was great defensively and especially on the PK.

Why isn't that a trip? The refs call based on the score.

Does anything not constitute hooking anymore?

Why is Kindl killing penalties? Back to the special teams fest, which does not favor the Red Wings.

That's a real quality call. No place in the game for a play like that.

Crosby could make anyone productive, but I see your point. Kunitz is a pretty good player too. I just think Datsyuk deserves something other than Bertuzzi or Cleary.

Datsyuk gets rid of Bertuzzi and adds Cleary. Can we please get him something at wing besides those two?

Someone should inform Gary that hockey is indeed far better when there is actual flow to a game. The refs not interrupting play every few minutes is wonderful. Plus the Red Wings special teams are a disaster, so the less time spent on it, the better off they are. Look very good at even strength though. Lots of jump from the third and fourth lines again.

Filppula on a breakaway is a lot like Helm. You just don't expect it to end in a goal. Nice finish that time, though.

Not due for a good game for about another week or so. Plays with Datsyuk and has one memorable game every few weeks. Shouldn't be anywhere near the top six on a championship calibre team.

This is the best officiated game the Red Wings have been involved in this season. Letting them play the game for once. Backes doesn't deserve a call anyways.

Impressive bounce back tonight after that mess against Columbus and Calgary. Lots of energy and finally some contributions from the bottom six, which is huge. Mrazek looks confident out there. Wasn't sure how this game was going to play out with the combination of a rookie goalie and two poor outings, but the Wings showed up.
