Weekend Picks

    Bumped as a reminder for this weekend. The results are available on Pool Tracker if anyone is unaware. I will start posting them here as well once we get a little further along and have the lowest week score to factor in.

    Ian White Out 2-3 Weeks

    When was the last time the Red Wings were somewhat collectively healthy as a whole? The 2008 playoffs maybe? This is just nuts.

    Trade for Bogosian

    I read the thread title and thought Vinny Prospal had been traded.

    1/22 GDT : Stars 2 at Red Wings 1

    Congrats to Brunner. He's been one of the few bright spots so far. That 23 home game winning streak feels like an eternity ago. Five straight losses at JLA including the playoffs now. Maybe Helm can spark this team. I'm grasping for anything because this is frustrating to watch.

    This looks like the Nashville series. Lots of shots, not real high quality for most. Now Franzen is up from his nap and acting tough with the ref there to protect him.

    Jimmy has been spectacular given the mess in front of him so far. Here, I thought the Red Wings would be able to score goals this season at least. Staring at two shutouts in three games. Datsyuk and Zetterberg started slow last year, but there's no way that can be the case again. Z looks energized and creating chances with Brunner, but Pavel is way off.

    Quincey had a chance to clear and flubbed it up the boards. He's going to be minus 653 at this pace.

    What's Pavel doing? Worst forward on the team tonight.

Why dump that in?

Haha, I thought the same thing. Faceoff is going down there anyways. No sense in giving up possession for no reason.

Like trying too many low-chance passes.
Once we are set up in the zone we look pretty good.

Good point. They do look better once they establish control. Entry has been a concern too.

    Jimmy has been terrific. Tom Renney hasn't earned his paycheck so far.

    There are no adjectives left to describe Kyle Quincey's level of sorry.

    <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="The Axe" data-cid="2344838" data-time="1358902691">
Jimmy is a siv

Are you kidding? That shot was a snipe and it didn't help Quincey was doing an attempt at defense that backfired.

    Quincey/Smith -1 Come on Babs, break those two up already.
  16. GoWings1905

    Samuelsson out (groin), Nyquist up from GR

    <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="The Axe" data-cid="2344542" data-time="1358879698">
As long as he doesnt bump Emdog

Helm will take care of that on Friday.
  17. GoWings1905

    Ericsson out, Getting MRI on Hip

    This is not good. E takes a lot of heat, but he's a huge piece of this defense now. Playing more minutes up with Kronwall and he's the best penalty killer on defense, which is clearly lacking otherwise. I hope he gets back on the ice soon.

Welcome to LGW

Did you count yours in the sarcastic category as well? More commentary on how people should react is always refreshing. As for Huskins, he's a body and the Red Wings need those desperately right now on defense. Unfortunately, a depth signing doesn't do much to help stabilize an already weak group as a whole. Still think Holland has to pursue a trade for a top-four defenseman sooner than later.
  19. GoWings1905

    Samuelsson out (groin), Nyquist up from GR

    Yes! Samuelsson has been terrible so far on the second line. I'm not happy he is injured, but I would rather have Nyquist in that spot regardless. Can't wait to see Nyquist and hoping he plays well enough to stick around.
  20. GoWings1905

    New Defenseman: Guess who?

    I hope it's Vandermeer or White. Knowing Holland, probably Lilja or Ledba.
  21. GoWings1905

    Wings Looking For Defenseman

    I think the looking needs to hit desperation levels now. An already thin defense is depleted. Volchenkov would be excellent.
  22. GoWings1905

    1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

    Colaiacovo out for awhile according to Babs. Again, he played decent enough but can't stay on the ice. The Red Wings needed health this short season, especially on a thin back-end. No E and Kindl already plus this now. Kenny almost has to use the excess forwards to at least get a body for depth.
  23. GoWings1905

    1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

    <blockquote class='ipsBlockquote'data-author="haroldsnepsts" data-cid="2344026" data-time="1358825797">
So when I left the game the Wings were up 2-0. Then got home just in time to see the shootout.

anyone got a recap of how they blew it?

Penalties in the third and Kyle Quincey namely. I'm not just piling on either -- Quincey and Smith were really rough together.
  24. GoWings1905

    Red Wings win! Wow, what slick hands by Brunner.
  25. GoWings1905

    1/21: Red Wings 4 at Blue Jackets 3 (SO)

    The brilliant shootout is probably going to determine playoff spots and positioning significantly this season. Datsyuk and then what? Z and Brunner?
